Season 4: Hisako (Killer Instinct) vs Squigly (Skullgirls)

Greetings and welcome to another edition of my "Who Would Win" Series and it is going to be Hisako from Killer Instinct vs Squigly from Skullgirls.

For this match up, I decided to use Hisako in her standard form, as it is the only form that has a backstory and achieved more feats. However, that said, I will also mention "Shin Hisako" for the sake of composition. Also, I will use Survival and Versus mode game play to give Hisako the best power levels she gets.

As for Squigly, her background centers around her "Story Mode" in Skullgirls. Thus, her feats will mainly focus on that mode. However, since I love to do things differently, I will also include "Versus, Arcade and Survival" Mode game play to give Squigly the best power level she can have.

Finally, I will cover the base stats, their weapons, abilities, Ultimate Moves/Finishers and finally, who I personally believe will win this match up.

So, without further ado, let's bring out the dead and get this started :D!!!!!!!!!!

Chiharu "Hisako"

"I will Devour You"

The Backstory of Hisako is about family, inspiration and revenge.

Five Hundred Years ago (1493) A girl named Chiharu was living a life of peace. The daughter of a Ronin (A samurai without a leader), Chiharu had a different kind of life compared to most people around the globe. You see, Chiharu was a descendant of a onna-bugeisha (female samurai) and so her father felt that it was his duty to train his daughter to become a onna-bugeisha herself.

Things went well, Chiharu practiced with her father and was so skilled that she was able to quickly master the sword and bow. However, Chiharu's favorite weapon of choice is the Naginata (Pole Weapon)

When out of training, Chiharu helped out farmers plough their fields of rice, vegetables, all that good stuff (sadly, no kiwi fruits). What's more, Chiharu helped out with other activities, but all of that is done to help her techniques for combat (cutting down wood is good practice for wielding weapons for instance) And thus, Chiharu became a capable fighter even though she did little to no fighting at all :D!!!! Talk about strange training that works.... I love it!!!!

However, funny times soon became a horrific nightmare when one day, an aristocrat arrived at her village and started to flirt with Chiharu with rude intentions. Even going as far as to ask her to marry him despite not knowing a single detail about her..... What a creep.

Understandably, Chiharu replied "I want to be a samurai, not someone's housekeeper". This stirred up the man, who tried to draw his sword, but, funny enough, Chiharu scared him off by hitting him with her water bucket, forcing him to leave the area on horseback

A week after her nineteenth birthday, Chiharu was practicing in the bamboo forest, only to realize that the area around her was covered in smoke all of a sudden. As she traveled to the source, she realized, her own village was ransacked by bandits.

What is worse, Chiharu's family was murdered, and, as it turns out, the same guy who Chiharu scared off earlier was part of the raid.

Acting out of revenge, Chiharu grabbed her father's Naginata to protect her village. Like a badass, she slew many invaders, even inspired the local populace to fight back. Unfortunately, Chiharu was eventually overwhelmed, and was cut down. However, before she died, she at least killed the aristocrat using her poisonous claw.

The Aftermath of the Raid

After Chiharu's death, the villagers made a shrine dedicated to her. However, funny enough, Chiharu actually never left the village, she became an Onryo (Vengeful Spirit). And this time, her new name became Hisako "The Everlasting Child".

The village eventually became nothing more than a ghost town, Hisako however became it's guardian and over the course of five hundred years to the present time, was left untouched...... then another invasion has occurred.

An evil organization known as "Ultratech" was sent by ARIA to find Hisako's Spirit and bring her for testing. Hisako, seeing the trespassers, went on a warpath and decided to take the fight to Ultratech. Eventually, Hisako defeated numerous Ultratech agents and ARIA herself and has returned to her village to rest and guard for Eternity.

That is a straightforward background of Hisako. Now, let's see what this badass Onryo is capable of.

Strength

Hisako Uppercutting Aganos

For an Onryo, Hisako's Strength is quite amazing. While mainly using her Naginata and her Katana for combat, there are considerable factors to consider with regards to her Strength. Here is a list of feats

  • Can use her hands and feet to damage Fulgore and Kilgore, highly advanced cyborgs covered in dense metal and steel.

  • Can block and even attack Aganos, who is a huge War Golem. Using real world physics, the total weight of Aganos can range from 40-60 tons.

  • Has penetrated ARIA's cybernetics and her armor.

  • Can slice through Glacius with her strikes, who is made out of the strongest and most durable Ice around.

  • Can uppercut all of her opponents 20 feet into the air

  • Can execute a throw that involves Hisako pushing her opponent towards her Naginata. Funny enough, Aganos is just as easy to push for Hisako compared to the rest of the Killer Instinct Roster. So this feat makes Hisako pretty strong at this point XD!!!!

Speed

Speed is particularly high for Hisako. Here is a list of Speed Feats

  • Can dodge laser beams from Fulgore

  • Can surpass ARIA's Nanosecond reactions.

  • Her teleportation can reach from one side of the arena to the other in just a second.

  • Can react to Riptor's attacks, which are faster than the eye can track.

  • Despite wielding the Naginata, Hisako can swing it with such speed that it is almost impossible to block it while she is on a rampage.

  • Has dodged energy attacks on a regular basis

Durability

"Excuse me Aganos, I thought we are practicing"

Durability is particularly interesting for Hisako. Here is a list of feats for Durability

  • Took strikes from Fulgore. One particular Fulgore model managed to beat down TJ Combo with just a few strikes. TJ is able to withstand strikes from Orchid, who managed to destroy Fulgore cyborgs like it is a Tuesday. Funny enough, Hisako should actually surpass TJ Combo's durability due to her "Undead" physiology

  • Can take Aganos' powerful strikes. Durability wise, it is worth noting that Aganos can summon a giant pillar of Rock that is over 22cm thick. Hisako ultimately broke through the pillar and the estimated measurement would scale to around 80-120 tons worth of force to achieve. That is damn insane

  • Took attacks from Chief Thunder, a Native American warrior (Cool guy btw :D!!) who can use lightning to amplify his striking power with his tomahawks

  • Funny enough, Hisako can withstand another "Hisako's" Possession ability, which breaks all the bones inside the victim's body.

  • Took multiple energy based attacks from a variety of characters.

  • Took Cinder's Flame attacks, which are hot enough to melt metal.

  • Using her backstory, Hisako took multiple blows and kepts killing the invaders before dying

Naginata

The Naginata is a Pole Weapon used by the Samurai for generations. One of the most versatile melee weapons, The Naginata is also used by Samurai and other warriors for horseback. In the case of Hisako, her Naginata is her own father's, who was a Ronin.

Capabilities wise, the Naginata is superb for both Offensive and Defensive combat. It is obvious that the blade of the Naginata is deadly, but you would be surprised that the shaft is also used as a weapon, particularly for Hisako, who uses both sides of the Naginata to maximum effect.

Simply put, the Naginata is badass.

Move Set
Like all great fighting games. Each combatant in Killer Instinct has a distinct style of combat. Six main types of attacks are used to create Combo Openings and Combo Finishers. They are

  • Light Punch

  • Light Kick

  • Medium Punch

  • Medium Kick

  • Heavy Punch

  • Heavy Kick

Other strikes are an uppercut, crouching attacks and throws. Some characters however, such as Hisako, add more than just Strikes for their moveset.

Combo Breaker

Combo Breakers are a defensive technique. Whenever the combatant is attacked by a series of combos, they have a chance to break the combo before it reaches a "Combo Finisher". To do this, they must guess the Attack type that the attacker used. For instance, if the attacker uses low kicks, and the defender guessed it correctly, then the combo is broken, and the defender has a chance to retaliate. If they guess poorly, the combo continues.

However, worst case scenario, even if the Combo Breaker is attempted, there is a chance that a "Counter Breaker" occurs. This means, despite guessing the correct pattern, the attacker can still block the counter by simply pressing the same attack type.

However, Combo Breakers are still an extremely useful technique for all combatants.

Abilities

Hisako's "Possession"

Abilities is where Hisako becomes a very dangerous combatant. Here is the standard abilities for Hisako

Possession: Hisako opens her mouth to devour her victims. Once in range, she manifests into an intangible spirit and goes inside her opponent's body. What is awesome however, is that Hisako has complete control of the victim's body for a brief moment, and is able to crush all bones inside before being sent outside and back to her original form. Possession is also used as a Combo Finisher

On Ryo Zan: Hisako Strikes with her Naginata with tremendous power, able to deliver heavy damage. This ability is basically a combo extender, and it is also difficult to counter because it can be mixed with Low, Medium and Heavy attacks.

Air On Ryo Zan: An airborn variant of the standard On Ryo Zan, this ability has varied strength depending on how long the button is pressed. Stronger attacks allow Hisako to recapture Airborne enemies and can cause a knockdown without the use of Wrath

Air On Ryo Zan

Influence: Influence is basically a "Throw". Hisako grabs her opponent, then teleports behind them and pushes them towards her Naginata. Power is determined with the amount of time the button is pressed to execute the move.

Influence

Vengeance: One of the most powerful and simplistic abilities for Hisako, Vengeance is a defensive technique that allows Hisako to retaliate attacks. Once triggered, Hisako can combo her opponents to kingdom come. While very powerful, and a very crucial ability, Vengeance unfortunately does not work with projectiles and unblockable attacks. Thankfully, it is still great to open combos anyway :D!!!! What a nice trade off

Vengeance

Descent: Hisako crawls underneath the ground and teleports behind her opponent, making her invulnerable to High Attacks such as Air strikes and energy projection. This ability can be canceled to execute special attacks.

Descent. First you see me

Now I am here!!!!

Wall Jump: Self explanatory, it is a Wall Jump that allows Hisako to jump from the edge of the screen towards her opponent. This is particularly useful for avoiding straight attacks and for using airborne attacks

Throw: Hisako literally stabs her opponent with her Naginata twice. Unlike Influence, this ability actually can be used to start a Combo.

Shadow Strikes

The Shadow Meter

Hisako can use up her "Shadow" Meter to use, well, Shadow Strikes.

An Influence Shadow Strike

Shadow Strikes are special moves that can be used to increase the damage output for Hisako's combos and finishers. What's more, a Shadow Strike is an extended version of the standard moves, which also means they will land more blows than they normally would. Pretty badass :D!!!!

Special Traits

The Wrath Meter

Hisako's Fighting style is unique in the Killer Instinct Roster. Here is a list of "Special Traits" for Hisako's Fighting style

Wrath: Wrath is an extra meter for Hisako. When the Wrath meter is full, her Medium, Heavy and On Ryo Zan attacks deal more damage, which also partially drains the Wrath Bar overtime.

And, while the Meter is full, Influence and Air On Ryo Zan become Combo Openers.

She can also cancel combos into Descent or Vengeance by using some of the meter. This allows Hisako to create more opportunities to surprise her opponents

In order to fill the Wrath bar once more, Hisako has to Stand still or walking, which is pretty bizarre for a way to refill something that is named "Wrath" XD!!!!!

Combo Trait-Wind Up Doubles: Hisako can use Wrath to amplify her strikes to increase the damage output. This occurs after every second hit from her Medium and Heavy strikes. The longer the button is held, the stronger the attack and the longer it is charged. However, unlike most combatants, charging the attack does not leave Hisako vulnerable for the most part because it is part of the combo anyway...... How badass is that!!!!
Hisako unleashing a Wrath empowered attack during a combo

Instinct Mode

The Instinct Mode Meter, when fully charged, allows Hisako to unleash her  "Tousoushin"

Hisako’s Wrath Meter remains permanently full for the duration of Instinct Mode, giving her access to all of the Wrath Meter abilities without it draining. Vengeance counters also lose their high/low limitations and can catch all attacks.

But the real trick about Tousoushin is that it can also be used to extend a combo, allowing Hisako to damage her opponent more efficiently and with greater power.

Health Bar

All Killer Instinct combatants have a health bar. Funny enough, each combatant has two levels of health. The First is a Green Bar that displays, well, your health and the Second is a Red Bar. If both Health bars run out, you will lose the fight. Also worth noting is that should you reach a certain amount of remaining health you will be vulnerable to a Finisher, which also brings up......

Ultra Combo

A Demonstration of an Ultra Combo used by Cinder

The most badass move out of all characters in Killer Instinct, Ultra Combo's are their version of a "Fatality". However, what sets them apart from most fighting games is that Ultra Combo's unleash a devastating combo that can last from 30-35 hits on average. Funny enough, you can use Shadow Strikes while the Ultra Combo is triggered, and you can start all over again, possibly going as far as to do over 100-200 hits :D!!!!!! Here is my record

My personal Record. Not alot but it does get the job done :D!!!

Ultimate

The Start of Hisako's Ultimate

Hisako has the honor of being one of the very few combatants in Killer Instinct to have an "Ultimate". Like the Ultra Combo, Ultimate's require a certain amount of health for Hisako to trigger it. However, the most important rule to remember is that Hisako must still have Green Health left in order to trigger it. Once she triggers it, Hisako does this......

Peek-A-Boo!!!!

Hisako possessing Sadira, breaking all of her bones and twising her body

Serves you right you tresspasser!!!!

Yikes!!!!! I never knew your so adorable Hisako!!!

So a recap. What happened was that Hisako crawls towards her victim, she goes behind them and uses her Possession to go inside their body, lifts them up in the air and twists their body parts, instantly killing them. And, in the end, Hisako does a jump scare...... But really, it is not scary, it makes Hisako look super adorable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shin Hisako

Shin Hisako is another version of, well, Hisako. The "True Everlasting Child", this time, Shin Hisako is the result of Hisako reclaiming her father's Katana. And, she is a full fledged female Samurai. It is also worth noting that Shin Hisako is a "Kami", A Japanese Holy Spirit and Shin Hisako actually smiles when facing danger this time around. All Might would be proud :D!!!

Capabilities for Shin Hisako mainly revolves around her Katana Strikes. For the sake of this Blog, I will do a general run down of Shin Hisako's move set

Main attacks

  • Light Punch

  • Light Kick

  • Medium Punch

  • Medium Kick

  • Heavy Punch

  • Heavy Kick

Command Attacks

  • Katana Poke -  Shin Hisako stabs with her katana far in front of her.

  • Shin Puncture - Shin Hisako stabs angle downwards with her katana. Causes stagger on hit.

  • Ascension - Shin Hisako's forward dash is replaced with a teleport that moves her diagonally upwards. Can be used midair. Aerial attacks can be performed afterwards. If there is a Spirit Orb on the screen, Ascension will teleport Shin Hisako directly to it.

  • Throw - Hisako briefly possesses the opponent, contorting their limbs painfully. Summons a Spirit Orb on the opponent that follows their movements.

Special Moves

Shin Hisako's Spirit Orb's Projectile attack
  • Spirit Orb - Shin Hisako summons a ghastly fireball in front of her. Hold Forward will send the orb slowly traveling forward. If the orb gets hit by any move using Shin Hisako's katana, it will transform into a short-range projectile and travel in the direction the katana was swung. The projectile has high durability and will destroy most other projectiles. If the orb goes off-screen, it will disappear.

  • Shin On Ryo Zan - Shin Hisako swings her katana wildly, which can be chained into more strikes. Light is a low sweep attack, Medium is an overhead attack, and Heavy is an upward mid attack. At any point on hit, block or whiff, the first or second swing of Shin On Ryo Zan can be canceled into any other special move.

  • Shin Air On Ryo Zan  - Shin Hisako leaps into the air and swings her katana downward. Hits overhead. Button strength determines speed and distance traveled. Heavy version causes stagger. All versions are punishable by normal attacks. If there is a Spirit Orb on the screen, the Heavy version will track towards the orb. Shadow Shin Air On Ryo Zan is projectile invincible.

  • Spirit Slice  - Shin Hisako dashes forward extremely quickly with her katana, leaving a slicing blow behind her. Button strength determines speed and distance; Light is fast and unsafe, while Medium and Heavy are slower and launch on hit. If there is a Spirit Orb on the screen, the Heavy version will quickly fly towards it at an upward angle.

Spirit Slice

  • Awakened Soul  - Shin Hisako performs a rising katana slash. Button strength determines behavior; Light version stays on the ground and launches, Medium launches and also causes a hard knockdown, and Heavy is fully invincible, high damage, far range, and extremely fast.

Awakened Soul

Shadow Moves

  • Shadow Shin On Ryo Zan - Shin Hisako advances, swinging her katana wildly five times. Is not projectile invulnerable, unlike Hisako's On Ryo Zan.

  • Shadow Shin Air On Ryo Zan  - Shin Hisako leaps into the air and swings her katana downward, hitting five times. Invulnerable to projectiles and can recapture airborne opponents.

  • Shadow Spirit Slice - Shin Hisako dashes forward extremely quickly with her katana, leaving five slicing blows behind her. Can travel full-screen, but has no invincibility.

  • Shadow Awakened Soul - Shin Hisako performs a rising katana slash that hits five times. Fully invulnerable.

 Ultra Combo

Shin Hisako performs a 27-hit combo. Ultra Ender is a ninja-style slash with her katana.

Basically, Shin Hisako uses an emphasis on her Katana and her Spirit Orbs to battle her opponent with deadly efficiency. Stats wise, Shin Hisako is virtually the same as Hisako anyway. XD!!!!

Not a jump scare this time XD!!!
Bottom line, Shin Hisako is a badass female samurai and a joyful spirit. :D!!!!!!!!!

Feats for Hisako

Hisako, despite being in one game, has achieved a notable amount of feats. Here is a list of feats achieved by the Onryo

  • Has officially, and cleanly, defeated ARIA personally. The same Cyborg who is the CEO of Ultratech

  • Defeated Sadira, a leader of a league of assassins who uses Web abilities for combat

  • Defeated Riptor, a cybernetically enhanced Raptor

  • Defeated Maya, an Amazonian Queen
  •  Defeated Spinal, an Undead Pirate who can Teleport and use Spirit Skulls to devastate his opponents.

  • Defeated Cinder, a human male spliced with Alien DNA who uses Fire that can melt through steel and armor.

  • Has one of the coolest move sets in Killer Instinct

  • Is my favorite Onryo in all of fiction

  • While Hisako is suppose to be scary, strangely enough, she actually is much more adorable than you would expect because of this......
Look at how Hisako stares at the camera!!! Super SUPER Adorable!!!!
  •  Killer Instinct has one of the best soundtracks ever. Hisako's theme, "Village of Whispers" is a great piece of music :D!!!

  • Samurai Lore is just badass stuff.

  • Shin Hisako is just all round, a legit badass who has a smile...... :D!!!!

Weaknesses

While Hisako is a total badass, unfortunately, she does have weaknesses.

Hisako has one of the slower walking speeds out of everyone in Killer Instinct. Not that it is actually a bad thing, walking helps Hisako fill up her Wrath meter.... Which also poses a problem. Should Hisako run out of Wrath, she will have to refill it up again by walking or standing still.... This actually opens an opportunity for her opponent to beat her down.

While Hisako is one of the oldest characters in the Killer Instinct roster, the main question about her lifetime is whether or not she spent most of her time as an Onryo fighting bad guys or simply guarding her village. After Hisako died, there was no evidence to suggest she participated in any form of warfare prior to Ultratech's invasion of her village. So while Hisako is old, her combat experience is left to be desired.

Speaking of her story, Hisako started to become weaker the longer she is away from her village. This means, Hisako has to harvest souls in order to replenish her Spirit energy to keep going. In fact, if Hisako stayed out of her village for too long, she would perish

However, despite all of this, Hisako is one badass Onryo. Hisako is cool, adorable, tragic and above all, is just an amazing character

Sienna "Squigly" Contiello

Sienna Contiello, better known as "Squigly" is the last surviving member of the Contiello's, a family who are very well known for being one of the best Opera Singers in the Canopy Kingdom.

Fourteen Years ago, The Contiello's were long time partners with the Medici Mafia, the same group that sponsored Cerebella's Circus Acts.

One day, tragedy struck the Contiello's. You see, they were so close to obtaining the legendary Skull Heart, only for the Medici's to turn their back on the Contiello's and murder them. Squigly's mother Selene Contiello, possessed the Skull heart and wished for her family to be back to life, becoming the Skullgirl in the process. Turns out, it was a success, as Fourteen Years later, Squigly finally came back into the world of the living with her Parasite "Leviathan" and was on a quest to find the Skullheart.

Turns out, the Skullgirl is now a different host named Marie. And, despite waking up in the middle of Meridian, Squigly saw that everything around her was nothing more than a warzone. Squigly ultimately took on multiple opponents on her way to Marie.

After finally meeting Marie, Squigly eventually defeated her in combat.... Unfortunately, things surprised Squigly, a mysterious figure known as "Double" tried to backstab Squigly, only for Filia to save her in the last moment. After teaming up with Filia and Samson, Squigly finally defeated Double, who revealed that it was her who triggered the murder of the Contiello's. Enraged, Squigly disintegrated Double to nothing more than ashes.

After having her revenge, both Squigly and Leviathan ultimately destroyed the Skullheart and returned to their grave, where they will reawaken when another Skullgirl threatens the Kingdom once again.

That is a straight forward backstory of Squigly. Now, let's see what the most adorable Zombie is capable of.

Leviathan

Who's a good widdle dragon monster? Oh, yes, you are! Yes, you are!

Before we go into Squigly's Power set. It is important to note that her primary method of combat is with her Parasite known as "Leviathan".

Leviathan is essentially "A Living Weapon" and it is one of the most versatile weapons in all of fiction.

In fact, it is with Leviathan that Squigly achieved astounding feats that would be quite difficult for other combatants in Skullgirls to pull off. I would be honest, I think Leviathan may well be the single most powerful weapon in Skullgirls.

Finally, Leviathan is also sentient, and also talks to Squigly for advice. While not technically a combat strategist, Leviathan is smart enough to plan out tricky maneuvers when the situation demands it. And of course, Leviathan and Squigly became inseparable, meaning, they love each other til the very end

So we got ourselves Squigly's Weapon. Now, let's see how badass Squigly is with her power :D!!!!

Strength

Squigly using Leviathan to destroy the Skullheart

Incredibly, Squigly's Strength is badass. Despite being just a Zombified girl, Squigly is far stronger than your typical Zombie. Here is a list of feats accomplished by Squigly in the Strength department

  • Can use Leviathan to pierce through any material. This also includes durable metal and cybernetics

  • Can use her uppercut to launch someone like Big Band up into the air. Big Band is a huge cyborg who can weigh over 200kgs

  • Can break through Marie's Bone Barriers.

  • Her quick strikes actually can deal heavy damage to durable beings such as Cerebella,  Robo-Fortune and Marie.

  • Destroyed the Skullheart using Leviathan's Tail

Speed

Cutest charge ever!!!!!

In terms of Speed, Squigly is actually extremely fast. Far more so than you would think. Here is a list of surprising Speed feats for Squigly.

  • Out of everyone in Skullgirls, Squigly may well have one of the fastest dashes, as it is quick enough to dodge some of Peacock's bomb strikes from the air. Even better, Squigly is quick enough to dash past Filia's Ground drill attack, which is quick enough to match Peacock's Teleportation.

  • Can react and even match Peacock's Teleportation

  • Avoided a full on barrage of Parasoul's Egret Charge. This ability is quick enough to go at bullet speeds

  •  Can  use her flurry of attacks with such speed, they go at Faster than the Eye can track speeds

  • Is quick enough to pull opponents from the other side of the arena towards her using Leviathan's Tail.

Durability

Durability is quite impressive for the Zombie Girl. Here is a list of feats achieved for Durability

  • Can take multiple building level strikes.
  • Has taken a full fledged Peacock Lonesome Lenny Bombstrike , which is powerful enough to destroy a building
  • Taken Parasoul's Fire Based attacks, which can burn through Steel and other Durable materials.

  • Took multiple blows from Marie's Car sized Bones.

  • Took multpile beatings from Cerebella, who is strong enough to punch a rock with such force, it turns into a diamond.

  • Survived getting swallowed by Samson, Filia's Parasite

Health

Health displays, well, your health XD!!!! Should it run out, You lose. The end

Moveset

Squigly has one of the most unique Movesets in Skullgirls. Her amazing variety is just as versatile as a Swiss Army knife is for the real world. Here is the moveset for Squigly

Lich Slap

Lich Slap: A Simple Slap.... The end XD!!!

Tail Light

Tail Light: Squigly uses Leviathan to light up a candle...... This actually is an attack that does a fair amount of damage to those who are in close proximity. Funny enough, it can counter teleportation. Badass :D!!!

Drake Bite

Drake Bite: After jumping, Squigly can use Drake Bite to knock down her opponent. If used at the start of a jump, Squigly can use an overhead at a standing opponent

Piercing Gaze
Piercing Gaze: A two hit attack that let's Squigly using Leviathan from her eye socket to pull her opponent towards her by a few centimeters and the second strike reaches the attacks full range, which is about 5 feet anyway XD!!!

Serpent's Spear

Serpent's Spear:  Squigly hits her opponent with Leviathan's Tail, pushing them away for a moment

Conqueror Wyrm
Conqueror Wyrm: Squigly perfroms a down ward palm strike with Levithan's Breath as back up, which stops their momentum in the air

Bune Knuckle
Bune Knuckle: Squigly punches with both arms, which Leviathan follows with a similar pincer attack with his head and tail. The high hit stun makes this Squigly's best standing normal to stance cancel and combo into another ground chain. Chains twice.

Cremation: Leviathan breaths fire, hitting low for 4 hits. The heavy hit stun on the final hit makes this Squigly's best crouching normal to stance cancel into a longer combo.
Cremation

Dragon Strike
Dragon Strike: Leviathan extends forward for a bite attack that covers nearly half the screen. At longer ranges, Squigly can use it to stop air dashes and prevent an opponent from approaching off the ground. At close range, Squigly can chain into j.HP for 4 hits and possibly leave an opponent in a standing hit stun.

Croise
Croise: Squigly uses Leviathan to poke the opponent with his tail. Chains twice.

Ecart
Ecart: Squigly does a split kick, which hits low with hit boxes both in front of her and behind her.

Coffin Nail

Coffin Nail: An air strike with great horizontal reach

Death Drop
Death Drop:  Squigly kicks during a salsa dip pose with Leviathan. This attack functions as a launcher against air opponents. Squigly can't jump cancel if she hits a standing opponent.

En Pointe
En Pointe: Squigly kicks forward in a pose as if she was laying in a coffin. She moves slightly forward during the active frames of the attack, which can help it chain into her HP launcher.

Ouroboros Circlet

Ouroboros Circlet:  Leviathan forms a loop for the first hit, then spins for 3 additional hits if the first touches an opponent. The spinning animation gives Squigly a brief float effect and changes the momentum of her jump.

Dust to Dust
Dust to Dust: Squigly and Leviathan's version of an Uppercut. It launches the opponent into the air.

Dance of Salome
Dance of Salome: Squigly swings Leviathan's tail in the shape of an axe, knocking enemies over.

Madame Dragonfly
Madame Dragonfly: Leviathan swings his tail below Squigly for 4 hits. The move gives Squigly's jump a bit of upward momentum, making it difficult to land after the last hit and start a ground chain. Squigly can easily combo after this attack if she cancels into Death Drop or Fallen Woman

Ashes to Ashes
Ashes to Ashes:  Leviathan's breath hits overhead for 4 hits. It has slow startup, however Squigly can chain combo into this with precise timing. Ashes to Ashes has similar hit stun to Cremation. offering a similar opportunity to stance cancel on hit and link to another normal. Overhead.

Pass Away
Pass Away: Leviathan bites the opponent, holding them in place and bringing them to Squigly, who thrusts both of her palms forward, pushing them away. This is a Throw Technique

Drake Fang
Drake Fang: An air throw that allows Squigly and Leviathan to push down the opponent in mid air. Like Pass Away, Leviathan bits the opponent to start the throw

Stances

Some of Squigly's more unique attacks involve her going into a "Stance". Here is a list of moves that involve Stances

Dragon's Breath
Dragon's Breath: Squigly does a pose while Leviathan charges himself with flames. When Squigly is on the move while using Dragon's Breath, she does this.......

This is a reason why Squigly is the most adorable Zombie XD!!!!

Liver Mortis
Liver Mortis: Leviathan unleashes a powerful burst of flame forward. This is triggered after Dragon's Breath is charged

Center Stage

Center Stage: One of Squigly's most powerful abilities is also one that gives her one of the best opportunities to counter long ranged opponents. Squigly, after going into Dragon's Breath's stance, can use Center Stage to perform a song for a moment. This results in the opponent being drawn much closer to Squigly, taking away their range advantage substantially.

Drag 'n' Bite: A rather hilarious attack, Squigly tries to pull back Leviathan as he chomps his way towards the enemy. This attack projects Squigly forward.
Drag 'n' Bite

Draugen Punch
Draugen Punch: An uppercut punch that is inspired by Street Fighter, Squigly unleashes a punch that launches herself into the air. This move is far better than Ryu's Shoryuken XD!!!!!

Serpent's Tail: One of the most adorable stances ever, Serpent's Tail allows Squigly to use Leviathan's Tail as a whip, and, a skipping rope!!!!!
Serpent's Tail

Awww Look at this!

Arpeggio
Arpeggio: The most epic combo in Squigly's Moveset.... It involves Leviathan unleashing a flurry of tail strikes at the opponent. When fully charged with Serpent's Tail, the final attack is a powerful thrust

The Silver Chord: An iconic ability for a certain Mortal Kombat Character, Squigly uses Leviathan's Tail and launches at the opponent. If caught, Squigly then pulls the opponent back to her.

Get over here!!!!!

Tremolo
Tremolo: Leviathan's Tail travels along the ground and attacks the opponent from down under. When Serpent's Tail is fully charged, the range is increased substantially and the combo is increased to 5 hits

Fallen Woman
Fallen Woman: Squigly does a falling stab with Leviathan's tail. If the high kick variant is performed, after landing on the ground, Squigly does a flip, dealing a second hit and launching the opponent behind her, leaving them open for a crouching attack unless they tech.

Snake Charmer: Squigly's Taunt. Leviathan coils around Squigly and gives her a hug while she caresses him. Performing this taunt successfully allows Squigly to use the most powerful ability in Skullgirls........ (We will get to it very soon :D!!!)

Love.... Love!!!!

Meter

Meter in Skullgirls is the main source of power for powerful attacks such as blockbusters. Squigly must attack her opponents constantly in order to fill it up. It is worth noting that Meter can increase it's level overtime if the combatant mainly uses standard attacks, or if the combatant is attacked. The more meter Squigly has, the more times she can use her most powerful abilities. Meter's maximum total is five levels

Blockbusters

Inferno of Leviathan

Blockbusters are where Squigly becomes an absolute badass. Here is the list of Blockbuster moves for Squigly

Squigly Battle Opera

Level 1 Blockbuster

Squigly creates a damaging energy ball with a musical note encased in it that stays on-screen until Squigly is hit, or after a set amount of time.
Squigly Battle Opera

Daisy Pusher

Level 1 Blockbuster
Daisy Pusher

Squigly kicks the ground, creating a square grave hole that the opponent falls into before closing itself and sprouting a flower. A tombstone then appears from the sky, crashing down onto the grave, freeing the opponent and leaving them to do their knockout animation.

Inferno of Leviathan

Level 3 Blockbuster

Similar to Filia's Tricobezoar Blockbuster, but it deals multiple hits and the projectile, if it misses or is blocked, comes back from behind and travels in an infinite sign-like movement.

Nothing comes close to the power of Squigly!!!!!

Shun Goku Saltsu

Level 5 Blockbuster

So we mentioned Snake Charmer Before right? Now, this is where Squigly's Power is absolute.

Squigly levitates across the ground and seeks an opponent. Upon contact, Leviathan torches them with his breath, inflicting heavy damage. 112 hits, only works after a successful Snake Charmer and if at least one of Dragon's Breath and Serpent's Tail are fully charged.

A direct reference to Akuma's Raging Demon from the Street Fighter series. The kanji (å¡©) that appears in the background after K.O'ing an opponent with the blockbuster literally means "salt".

Hello!!!! I got something for ya!!

The End

Because of it's power, Shun Goku Saltsu is basically a showstopping finisher. While it is extremely difficult to pull off, once it is triggered, the victims "Soul" is destroyed. That is just legendary.

Feats for Squigly

I know but come on, this is just too adorable!!!!

Squigly, despite being in one game, with an upcoming comic series on it's way, has done quite fair bit of feats. Here is a list of accomplishments for Squigly.

  • Has officially, and cleanly, killed Double, the same character who murdered her family

  • Defeated Parasoul, the Princess of The Canopy Kingdom

  • Defeated Cerebella.

  • Has defeated Filia and Samson

  • Defeated Peacock, a combatant who uses Toon Force as part of her arsenal

  • Defeated Marie the Skullgirl

  • Is simply put, the most adorable Zombie of all time........ No contest XD!!!!
  • Her Shun Goku Saltsu is literally, the most powerful move in all of Skullgirls.
  • Is voiced by Lauren Landa

  • Is not just adorable, but is also the friendliest Zombie ever. Hey, if Squigly ever existed in the real world, she can join my birthday parties :D!!!!

Weaknesses

Squigly, despite being a Zombie of immense power, has a pretty sad amount of weaknesses :(

Firstly, Squigly lacks any form of personal skills, since Leviathan is the main method for her attacks. If Leviathan is killed there are two ways for Squigly to go by.

1. Her attacks will be limited to her fists and feet, while Squigly is capable, she is far below more skilled combatants such as Cerebella and Parasoul.

2. Leviathan is the main reason why Squigly is still alive. Theoretically, killing Leviathan also kills Squigly since it is the same thing as destroying the brain of a Zombie. Thus, Levithan is literally "The Brain" of Squigly.

Squigly's power set may be powerful, but she has to rely on a number of factors to pull them off. Shun Goku Saltsu for instance is almost impossible to pull off in a 1v1 fight because Squigly would most likely never reach the same level of Meter to trigger it.

In fact, I did a few runs with Squigly to try and reach that certain level, and the only way to reach Level 5 is if Squigly fought three opponents on her own. In the case of a 1v1 fight, reaching Level 5 for the Meter is possible, but requires the opponent to have enough health in order to keep it rising.

Finally, Squigly's Center Stage ability, while absolutely great against Long Ranged combatants, has a workaround. You see, those who are melee focused combatants will actually take advantage of the ability and strike Squigly down. A versatile fighter can actually counter this ability to the point that it is mainly nullified.

Despite the fault's, Squigly is one of, if not the most powerful combatant in Skullgirls thanks to her versatility and her power... Before I end her information, let me show you, one of the most adorable GIF's I ever seen.....

Cuteness over Infinity!!!!

Yeah..... Squigly has the cutest walk in all of fiction.... Seriously, if that alone doesn't make you think she is adorable, logic is gone XD!!!!

Squigly is powerful, adorable and above all, one of the best written characters ever created

Summary

Hisako

Advantages

  • Is actually far Stronger than Squigly
  • Teleportation really helps Hisako avoid nearly, if not all of Squigly's Ranged attacks

  • Is more skilled than both Squigly and Leviathan.

  • While Squigly's Center Stage will pull Hisako towards her, this actually helps Hisako because she is primarily a melee combatant and not a ranged fighter. Though Shin Hisako's Spirit Orbs are long range, the fact that they are merely just a add on ability doesn't really hurt Shin Hisako anyway because she is still a Melee combatant for the most part

  • Her Possession is actually an ability that Squigly has "No'' counter for

  • Vengeance will counter all of Squigly's close range attacks.

  • All of Hisako's Shadow Strikes are certainly capable of overpowering Squigly, to the point that if Squigly cannot perform a combo breaker in time, the fight is over
  • While Squigly's Shun Goku Saltsu is an instant win in this fight, if Hisako dodged Squigly's grab, she can counter it entirely.

  • In my opinion, Hisako is prettier than Squigly

  • Is actually more than capable of slicing Leviathan from Squigly, which ends the fight decisively

Disadvantages

  • While Hisako's Teleportation helps, Squigly can counter it using her Tail Light.
  • Hisako's Ultimate Finisher requires her to have Green Health left in her life bar. If Hisako took too much damage, she cannot use this finisher for the rest of the fight

  • Squigly, if she can guess Hisako's attack pattern, can counter Hisako's Combos with a "Combo Breaker"

  • Is far less versatile than Squigly

  • All of Squigly's Blockbuster attacks will do massive damage to Hisako.

  • Inferno of Leviathan, while it will miss Hisako for a moment, will actually return and attempt to hit Hisako one more time. If Hisako fails to dodge, she will be severely damaged.

  • If Squigly reaches Level 5 with her Meter, and unleashes Shun Goku Saltsu, Hisako is going to die instantly.

  • Is not as adorable as Squigly

Squigly

Advantages

  • Has far greater versatility

  • Can counter Hisako's Teleportation using Tail Light

  • Should Squigly deal enough damage to Hisako, she will not have to worry about Hisako's Ultimate Finisher for the rest of the fight

  • Squigly's Blockbuster Moves will severely damage Hisako

  • Inferno of Leviathan is a tracking orb of devastating Power. If it missed Hisako the first time, it will come back for one more try and if it tags Hisako, the damage output would be quite fatal
  • If Squigly used Center Stage combined with Inferno of Leviathan on Hisako, the returning orb has a much greater chance of tagging Hisako.

  • Shun Goku Saltsu, if Squigly reaches Level 5 with her meter, will instantly win her the fight should she successfully trigger it
  • If Squigly could guess Hisako's Attack Pattern, she can stop Hisako's Combo with a Combo Breaker

  • Is more adorable than Hisako

Disadvantages

  • Not as strong as Hisako
  • While Center Stage actually pulls Hisako towards Squigly, this would probably not bode well for Squigly because Hisako is primarily a melee combatant, who would ultimately take advantage of the situation and beat down Squigly.
  • Has no counter to Hisako's Possession
  • Not as skilled as Hisako
  • Squigly will have to use projectile attacks in order to nullify Hisako's Vengeance, which counters most of Squigly's moveset.
  • Hisako's Shadow Strikes will be a massive wallop for Squigly, which can ultimately overpower her to the point that Squigly would die
  • Should Squigly miss the grab attempt to trigger Shun Goku Saltsu, then that means Squigly wasted all of her Meter Levels.
  • Leviathan is actually vulnerable to Hisako's Slash attacks to the point that he woul be seperated from Squigly's head, which ends the fight deciesively for Hisako . This includes decaptiation or just a straight up downward strike on Squigly's Head to get the job done.

  • Not as pretty as Hisako (Personal opinion hahaha XD!!!)

The Verdict

In one of the most evenly matched fights of  "Who Would Win", Hisako vs Squigly is very close to a stalemate.

Both sides are so powerful with what they do, I actually took a while to figure out who would come out on top. Ultimately, I found the answer, but this time, I myself am very surprised with the solution. Let's look at the fight itself.

In terms of base stats, I say Hisako edges out Squigly in the Strength department. While Squigly is strong, Hisako's feat of uppercutting Aganos already outclasses all of Squigly's Strength capabilities.

Not to say Strength is the main stat that seals the deal, we have to look at other factors

Speed wise, I say this is very close to a tie. Both Hisako and Squigly have reacted to alot of great Speedsters before. But I say Hisako does edge out due to her teleportation. However, there is a workaround. You see, Squigly is actually faster than Hisako in terms of dashing Speed, even more, Squigly is more than capable of countering Teleportation anyway. So really, I say the Speed gap is in favor of Hisako but only "Just".

Durability is quite interesting. This time, I think it is a tie. Both Hisako and Squigly survived numerous punishment that would be absolutely devastating. Thankfully, both are durable enough to keep on going and fight like a badass (That's what I am talking about :D!!!)

So really, the only definitive edge in stats is Hisako having the Strength edge. While Speed is indeed a slight advantage, it is not really much of a difference to base a victor around. So, we need to go into the real deciding factors of the fight to see who will come home as the victor.

In terms of moveset, both Hisako and Squigly are very skilled fighters, Ultimately, while Hisako is more skilled, since she has been training long before she became an Onryo, Squigly has more abilities, making her more Versatile.

Versatility is quite significant in this fight, because Squigly has more options to try and put down Hisako. So the real question is, "Would Squigly's Versatility overwhelm Hisako?"

I say Yes.

But, you would be thinking this is an instant win for Squigly right? Not quite. While Versatility is in favor of Squigly, Hisako has a workaround for it. You see, all of Hisako's Abilities pack more dangerous results. Her Possession for instance is an unblockable ability that allows Hisako to break all the bones inside of her victims. So you would be thinking this is where Squigly is screwed then, as the possession technique could just snap her neck? Not really

The Gameplay of Killer Instinct shows that even after Possession is triggered, miraculously, their bones are back to normal. So really, it is quite interesting to think that Squigly actually would recover from the attack and keep on coming at Hisako....... This is where Squigly's more powerful abilities come into play: Blockbusters

While Hisako's Possession is unblockable, Squigly has "More" unblockable abilities. Her Blockbuster moves would severely damage Hisako to the point that even her Ultimate Finisher will not longer be a factor. What's more, Inferno of Leviathan is literally a giant orb that would be tracking Hisako for a moment. So, if the Orb missed Hisako, and returns to try and tag her, would Hisako still dodge it?

My answer

Yes

You see, Characters in Skullgirls have dodged Inferno of Leviathan before, even those without teleportation have managed to avoid it entirely. So really, while powerful, the Orb will eventually be avoided by Hisako due to her teleportation.

But wait, Squigly's Tail Light would probably counter it right? Yes, but it doesn't have the damage output to mean much.

But then again, it can open Squigly to an opportunity to combo down Hisako....... Which means, Hisako would be in trouble then right? Not exactly

Hisako's Teleportation has been countered before, but Hisako actually has fought back with "Combo Breakers" so really, if Squigly is not careful, her combos will ultimately be broken by Hisako, who can start up her own combos anyway.

Then there is the situation where Squigly would use Center Stage to try and pull in Hisako towards her.... Unfortunately, this is a big no no because Hisako does not use range attacks, she is primarily a melee combatant. However, if Shin Hisako is used, then ok, The Spirit Orbs do count as a range projectile, though Shin Hisako is still mainly a melee combatant anyway, so the situation is not a problem at all XD!!!!!!!!!

With all of that mentioned however, there is one more trick Squigly has that ultimately seals the deal.

Shun Goku Saltsu

So, for Squigly to have the definitive victory here, she has to first reach Level 5 for her Blockbuster Meter, grab Hisako, and Leviathan will burn Hisako to the point that even her soul is destroyed........

So you would be thinking, is this actually going to happen in the most likely outcome? My Answer.

No.......

Now let me explain. Because Squigly has to first work her way up to Level 5 for her Blockbuster meter to trigger Shun Goku Saltsu, it ultimately would not matter in a 1v1 fight against Hisako because by the time the fight ends, it is very unlikely that Squigly would finish the fight at Level 5. There are two reasons as to why this doesn't factor at all.

1. Because Shun Goku Saltsu requires Squigly to taunt and charge up either Dragon's Breath or Serpent's Tail, this taunt would open Hisako an opportunity to combo Squigly, which cancels the process entirely, and Squigly will have to do the whole procedure again.

2. Even if Squigly has reached Level 5 for her Meter, she has to first grab Hisako in order to use the ability..... Unfortunately, due to Hisako's Teleportation, it is very likely this ability will be avoided entirely. This means, Squigly would have wasted 5 levels worth of Blockbuster Meters that will put her back to square one.

So, in the end, I do believe that Hisako will narrowly win this fight due to her Strength, Teleportation, Deadlier Abilities, and her Skills.

While this is undeniably a very close fight, Squigly certainly could still beat Hisako with her Inferno of Leviathan and her versatility, the fact that Squigly simply doesn't have a counter to Possession, and most of Hisako's Attacks means that Squigly's chances of winning more often are "Dead on her tracks"

The Winner is Hisako

Next time on Who Would Win..........
