Greetings
and Welcome to the First ever "Army vs Army" match up of my "Who Would Win Series" and it is going
to be The Arachnids from Starship Troopers vs The Zerg from Starcraft.
For
this battle, I decided to omit Stats because the nature of "Multiple"
Units and Warriors makes it almost impossible to do Stats for individual
combatants since, well, both sides have "Millions to Billions" of
Warriors XD!!!!! So, I decided to add a unique segment called "The Army Roster", which is a generalized look at the Army for both sides and what they are
capable of :D!!!!
Now,
the Arachnids are by far, the most divisive set of combatants in this
match up. The reason why I said this is because both the Novel and the
Film Series of Starship Troopers are vastly different from one another.
So, I decided to stick to the Films as the Primary source of info.
However, there will be a mention of the Book for supplement and
composition purposes, meaning, the Arachnids will indeed be mixed :D
As
for the Zerg, I decided to go for the Starcraft Games as the primary
source of information. Infact, unlike the Arachnids, the Zerg have a
single canonical appearance that makes them much easier to use :D
Finally,
on a side note, I decided to go through the individual Leaders for both
the Arachnids and Zerg and even the Special Forces of each army.
So,
with all that said, the rundown will consist of the background, army,
capabilities, leaders, feats, weaknesses and finally, who I personally
believe will win this epic battle.
So, without further ado, let's begin.
The Arachnids
In
the not too distant future, humanity realized that they were not alone
in the galaxy. Bred from Evolution millions of years in the making (The Dinosaurs are cooler btw XD!!!) The aliens, known as "The Arachnids" or simply "The Bugs", are the most ferocious and terrifying race of the galaxy.
The
Arachnids originated from Klendathu, a Planet entirely covered by
barren rocks, mountains and desert. So, at first, the bugs were
generally seen as a pushover for the Federation, led by a Sky Marshall
in order to solidify humanity's grip on the galaxy....... ooooooh boy
was that a disaster. You see, this ended up happening.
|
Fire!!!!....... Oh crap, this is worse than I thought
|
You
see, in the very first invasion of Klendathu, the Arachnids not only
won the battle, they annihilated nearly half of the Invasion force,
which ended up being around 100 000 dead in one hour...... That is a
disaster of epic proportions.
After the crisis, the Federation decided that in order to fight the bug, they must "Understand" the bug.
With
that mindset, tactics changed, despite stronger competition from
Mankind, the Bugs did manage to hold onto a couple of victories for the
most part, but eventually, as technology improved, and training was
greater, the Federation finally managed to get a leg up on the Bugs,
ultimately leading them to a evenly matched war that never seems to end.
Thus,
the War against the Arachnids became a stuff of legend, and despite
their lack of technology, the Bugs are still badass, intimidating and
powerful warriors.
That is a simple background of the Arachnids. Now, let's take a closer look at these awesome alien warriors
The Army Roster
|
The Line up of Bug Types
|
The
Arachnids have a very diverse set of Warriors and Specialists that make
them a versatile bunch on the battlefield. What is interesting here
however is that the Bugs themselves are mainly specialized combatants
for specific circumstances. However, as a team, the Bugs are more than
capable of delivering devastating results to the enemy with their varied
arsenal. Here is a list of the Bug Types for the Arachnids
Warrior Bugs
The standard Warrior Bug serves as the Grunt of the Army. Standing at
2-3 meters tall Warrior Bugs are armed with two "sword like" forelegs or
"side mandibles" for piercing attacks. But of course, The Warrior comes
into battle with it's "Pincer", a huge mandible that is so deadly, it
is capable of crushing through rocks, steel and cleanly slices up humans
like butter.
|
Warrior Bugs
|
Oh
yes, did I need to say that the Pincer can generate nearly 2000-4000
psi? That is almost double the amount of a crocodile's bite force!!!!!!
It may as well be just as strong as a T Rex's bite force....... Scary
indeed.
Other strains of the Warrior Bug such as the "Royal Warrior" are much larger with the same charactersitics on a grander scale.
The
Tanker Bug is a Giant Beetle that has a really cool ability to unleash a
corrosive flammable blast from it's forehead. The range of the blast
can go to over 100 meters, and it is capable of melting through almost
anything, even Metallic objects. The Tanker Bugs serve as the Armor
support for the Arachnids.
|
Mmmmm Crispy!!!!
|
Hoppers
Hoppers
are flying bugs that are armed with sword like forearms for
piercing strikes and decapitating a human. Highlander references aside,
Hoppers are extremely fast in the air, and are capable of lifting a
human with little resistance.
|
Hoppers
|
Firefly
The Firefly is another species of the Hopper Bug. This time, it can shoot out the same corrosive, flammable substance used by the Tanker Bug. Fireflies are perfect air support for the bugs and are extremely mobile and deadly.
Cliff Mites
From the Starship Troopers game, Cliff Mites are bugs that project
large needles that can pierce through armor. The cool thing about these
bugs is that they can latch onto any surfaces, from the side of a cliff,
to the roof of a cave and building. Yes, the Cliff Mites are literally
"Spiders" :D!
|
Cliff Mite
|
Control Bug
The Control Bug is a small parasite that is perfect for infiltration
and "Possession". Control Bugs are really disgusting in that when they
infect a human, they are literally inside their brain.........
absolutely disgusting. Even worse, the Control Bug can manipulate all
the nerve systems of the victim, and control them at will. However,
those with a strong mind can resist some of the effects. Still an
effective asset to the Arachnids
|
Control Bug
|
Plasma Bugs
Plasma
Bugs serve as the Planetary Defense for the Arachnids. They emit a huge
blast of plasma from their Abdomen that is powerful enough to destroy Capital Ships and Flying Craft. Plasma Bugs are also extremely effective
as Artillery Support, as a single Plasma Blast is capable of destroying
battalions of enemies.
|
Plasma Bug
|
Also, Plasma Bugs can be used as batteries for the Transport Bugs, which means...
Transport Bugs
The
Transport Bug is a huge bug that can transport thousands of Warriors at
once. Covered in thick Armour around it's body, the Transport Bug is
difficult to take down. What makes it really cool however is that should
it have Plasma Bugs inside, it can use their Plasma Blasts as weapons
for Ship to Ship Combat.
|
Transport Bug
|
Another,
larger version of the Transport Bug, rightfully named "Super Transport
Bug" basically has all the same capabilities, just on a much larger
scale. Very cool indeed :D.
Oh
yeah, Transport Bugs are able to travel around Space and are used for
Interstellar Travel without any form of oxygen or carbon dioxide.
Meaning, they are organic transports that do not need to breath or feel
the effects of space...... Amazing :D
Ice Bug
|
Ice Bug
|
The
Ice Bug is one of the largest known subspecies of Arachnids. They are
essentially the size of huge asteroids, and are always in a sleeping
state until a nearby victim is ready to be devoured by it's massive
mouth that is bigger than a football stadium (Possibly 10 times bigger!!!!) The
Ice Bug is capable of destroying star ships and large objects, and the
inside has a corrosive substance that melts it's victims slowly......
Very brutal
|
The Ice Bug's Mouth
|
The Ice Bug's massive eye can see from all angles, meaning, once it is awakened, it never loses sight on what it hunts.
Blister Bug
|
Blister Bug
|
Blister
Bugs are slightly larger than the Warrior Bug. However, the unique
characteristic for this Bug is that it can emit a corrosive blast from
it's maw that can melt through steel, walls and of course, melt through
enemy armor and flesh. A very effective Ranged combatant that can be
used as ranged support for the Warrior Bugs
Rhino Bug
|
Rhino Bug
|
The
Rhino Bug is a type of Warrior Bug that literally lives up to it's
name. It charges towards it's enemies at high speeds and it's head is
extremely durable to all matter of attacks. Unfortunately, it's
unarmored body is a huge achilles heel, as it can be outsmarted and
easily dodged, opening it to a killshot. Still, The Rhino Bug's Charge
is almost as powerful as an Elephant, which can crush through buildings.
Imposter Bug
|
Imposter Bug
|
The
Imposter Bug is one of the most unique sub species of Bugs. It is used
for Infiltration purposes and at one time, are able to use Mobile
Infantry Powersuits as disguises behind enemy lines.
|
It's Larry!!!
|
Larry: Hey wait a minute!!! That's an Imposter Bug? Oh man are you for real now Grandmaster?
Grandmaster: Of
course I am real Larry, I do not recall getting any mind tricks or some
sort of soul possession whatsoever. The Imposter Bug doesn't even do
that, they are just like another type of Alien which I will mention
later ;)
Larry: I believe you, I used this scanning device that I totally did not steal from our scientist Miranda.
|
Miranda
|
Miranda: Hey!!!! That's mine Larry!!!!!
Larry: Damn it, how did you find me here?
Miranda: I have a tracking device inside that scanner buddy, give it back please
Larry: Never!!! You owe me for not even helping me out with Mr X and the Terminator
Miranda: I was helping Hancock with his Coffee, I could not be at two places at once
|
Hancock
|
Hancock: Did somebody say "Coffee"? Oh may I have some more please!!!
Grandmaster: Sure, I can make you more after I finish this blog mate
Hancock: Thanks boss, I am telling you though, your in alot of danger
Grandmaster: How so? I am the Grandmaster, I can protect myself from literally anything.
|
Estrella
|
Estrella: GRANDMASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How is everthing dear?
Grandmaster: Oh Estrella!!!! How did you get here?
Estrella: Oh you know, I can teleport to any location I desire, oh my, what do we have here!!!
(Estrella goes up towards an Arachnid Warrior, it immediately blushes and bows down to Estrella due to her cuteness and beauty)
Estrella: Nawwww this ugly looking thing is actually very sweet.
Miranda: Ummm Estrella, they are not exactly-
Estrella: I AM TAKING THIS GUY HOME WITH ME!!!!!!
(Estrella hugs the Arachnid Warrior and then teleports it along with her back to her home as a pet)
|
Larry, why are you smiling? XD!!!
|
Hancock: That was so random, I just dropped my Coffee cup :(
Larry: Cool story though, I hope Estrella knows what she is doing
Miranda: Well, she may as well just stay at home with the Bug and hopefully it doesn't eviscerate her, back to you Grandmaster
Brain Bug
The
Brain Bug is a leader of a colony, or army, of Arachnids. Usually
transported by a group of Arkellian Sand Beetles. The Brain Bug is by
far one of the most intelligent bugs since, well, it can literally do
this.
|
The Bug version of a Zombie......... Disgusting XD!!
|
Yeah,
Brain Bugs use a Proboscis to extract the brains of humans. This method
is a very, very cruel way to kill the victim, as their brains are
literally sucked dry from their skull. It is basically a Brain
Smoothie!!!! All those brains the Bug consumed made it smarter than ever
before, quite impressive :D
Of course, The Brain Bug can emit a high pitched scream that is powerful enough to crush Human skulls.
Unfortunately,
the Brain Bug is extremely vulnerable to all matter of attacks, and
despite being a leader, it is the most incapable combatant out of all
the Arachnid Warriors if not counting the Sand Beetles. Still, The Brain
Bug is a truly fascinating individual.
Plasma Grenadier Bug
|
Plasma Grenadier Bug
|
A
more mobile, smaller but effective type of the Plasma Bug, The
Grenadier Bug is one of the Arachnids most powerful Warriors. Like the
Plasma Bug, it emits a Plasma Blast as it's main method of attack. And
it's range is ideal for the Arachnids in siege and of course,
battlefield tactics. They are almost the size of the Plasma Bug, making
them quite durable and intimidating.... I love it!!!
Bombardier Bug
|
Bombardier Bug
|
The
Bombardier Bug is a type of Bug that is a living grenade. Not much to
say about it aside from the fact that it can jump at great distances and
explode....... the end XD!!!
Scorpion Bug
|
The Scorpion Bug Blast
|
The
Scorpion Bug is a Warrior that can emit a powerful energy blast that is
able to destroy multiple buildings, tanks and even large battalions of
troops.
Queen Bug
|
The Queen Bug
|
The
Queen Bug is an expert hacker..... Oh yes, the Queen is indeed the
leader of the "Pseudo Arachnids" but it is by far the most unpredictable
leader out of the bunch. You see, the Queen has powerful telepathic
powers that can control other bugs and surprisingly, humans as well. It
is armed with a Proboscis and unlike the Brain Bug, the Queen is much
more combat efficient and it is well armored.
Behemecoatyl
|
Oh my... That is a Big Bug.......
|
Behemecoatyl
is the largest Bug in existence, and it is also, the most powerful. The
size of a huge mountain, this "Monster" is powerful enough to create
Earthquakes from underneath the surface of a planet, can communicate
with it's enemy using victims corpses to speak on it's behalf (No seriously, this is what it does XD!!!)
and it is the Ultimate Bug in literally every sense of the word. It's
sheer size is proof enough that it is very hard to kill and it's huge
mouth can literally eat anything.
Tactics
The
Arachnids rely mainly on sheer numbers in terms of Battlefield Tactics.
However, despite this, they are still capable of creative thinking. You
see, sometimes the Arachnids use "Bait and Attack" techniques, like the
time when the Roughnecks went to Whiskey Outpost due to a "Distress
Call", which ended up being a trap..... Very clever
Also,
The Arachnids are great tunnelers, and can use multiple tunnels to
traverse around planets for quicker mobility. This tactic is the reason
why some of the Federation Forces suffer from severe losses to the Bugs,
they simply cannot fight an enemy that can attack from all sides at
once when overwhelmed.
Finally,
Infiltration is one of the Arachnids most surprising skills. The
Imposter Bug and Control Bug are two of the Arachnid's Best
reconnaissance specialists that can attack the enemy from the inside,
which in turn can weaken defenses for a full on assault, if it is
successful.
Those
are the main tactics of the Bugs. There are a few others like Hit and
Run and Pursuit but for the most part, these are generally their most
well known tricks :D. The Arachnids are intelligent indeed :D
Book Version of the Bugs
|
Illustration of a Brain Bug from the Novel
|
The
Book version of Starship Troopers has a unique take on the Bugs. This
time, they are capable of different means of combat and are far more
advanced in terms of technology. Here is a handful of what the Book Bugs
are capable of.
- So huge that the Mobile Infantry had to fight them using Power Suits. The Bugs are actually the size of houses for the most part
Feats for the Arachnids
The
Arachnids have achieved a significant amount of Feats that make them an
extremely awesome and bloodthirsty army of Bugs. Here is a handful of
feats for the Arachnids.
- As said in the background segment, the Arachnids killed 100 000 Mobile Infantry Forces in just an hour.
- Despite
the Roughnecks being more prepared and resilient at Whiskey Outpost,
the Bugs eventually won the battle due to sheer numbers, variety and of
course, this
|
Flame Grilled Tower Sentries....... Yummy
|
- Despite lacking in Technology, The Arachnids always adapted to every environment, even Space :D!!!!
- Repelled multiple Invasions like it is a Tuesday. Seriously, the Bugs are extremely impressive in terms of Planetary Defenses :D
- The Tanker Bug is badass!!!
- The Arachnid Warrior has to be one of the coolest looking Aliens in fiction :D
- The Brain Bug is Smart, very, very smart
- Starship Troopers is one of the best films ever!!!!
- The CGI Sequels are actually really fun to watch :D
- Listen to the Klendathu Drop Soundtrack, that is legendary!!!!
Weaknesses
While
the Arachnids are quite a force to be reckoned with, they are not
entirely unstoppable. In terms of power, the Arachnids are actually not
quite as impressive as you would think. You see, the Bugs are extremely
easy to defeat due to their lack of technology and simple tactics. While
they are creative, the Bugs almost always rely on numbers in order to
accomplish wonders.
The
Bugs are vulnerable to all matter of attacks, electrical currents can
simply fry them to a crisp, fire is extremely effective, and of course,
standard weaponry can kill them easily. While tough, the Bugs are not
invincible.
On
a final note, the Arachnids do not create new technology in order to
adapt. While they are still powerful, they will eventually lose the tech
race against the Federation and ultimately, will lose the war entirely
because of it.
Still, despite their flaws, the Arachnids are badass, cunning and absolutely cool :D!!!!!
The Zerg
In
the Koprulu Sector, the Galaxy is a battlefield of epic proportions.
The Three Main Powers of the Sector were the Resilient Terrans, the
highly advanced Protoss and of course, The Nightmarish Zerg Swarm.
The
Zerg have a rich history. Long story short, they were created by the
Xel'Naga, the creators of life in the Koprulu Sector. The Zerg were created to
become the "Purity of Essence" while the Protoss are the "Purity of
Form" (Oh yeah the Terrans are not that special XD!!).
Origin stories aside, The Swarm are actually a diverse group of broods that have a very complex background.
You
see, there is a unique Zerg entity known as "The Overmind" who is one of the oldest Zerg in existence alongside the funny looking Zurvan from
Zerus. Even going as far as to actually have multiple "Brood Leaders" known as "Cerebrates" to help control portions of the Swarm
|
The Overmind
|
|
Zurvan
|
|
Zerg Cerebrate
|
Of
course, like all wars in fiction, The Zerg participated in numerous
conflicts, eventually dominating almost two third's of the galaxy at the peak
of their power thanks to strong leadership from the Queen of Blades
known as Kerrigan.
|
Kerrigan
|
Eventually, despite Kerrigan being cured from her infestation (Oh yeah, Kerrigan's origin is a story for another time :D), she still somehow managed to muster another Zerg Swarm under her command, this time, with greater power and efficiency.
With her new found pets and cronies, Kerrigan led the Zerg Swarm to defeat the Galaxy's greatest threat: Amon
In
a rather feel good turn of events, Kerrigan's Swarm eventually helped
the Protoss Led by Artanis and the Terran group known as "Raynor's
Raiders" led by James Raynor, in a timeless team up that is more epic
than the Avengers team :D!!!!! Of course, the Alliance won the war
against Amon, and the Zerg now have a new leader named Zagara, who is
now leading the Swarm to total conquest across the Galaxy.
That is a brief story of the Zerg (If you want more of their background, Starcraft 1 and 2 explain their stories in great detail :D!) Now, let's see what the coolest Alien race in all of fiction is capable of.
The Army of the Zerg
|
It's a Family People!!!
|
The
Zerg are by far one of the most diverse and varied armies in fiction.
Their versatility across all fields make them highly adaptable to any
combat situation. For the sake of this blog, I decided to use the
standard Zerg Units as the primary versions for the match up. However,
there will be a handful of "Special Forces" from the Zerg that are worth
mentioning. So, here is the roster of the Zerg Units.
Zerglings
The
basic Warrior of the Zerg, Zerglings are the fastest ground type Zerg.
While not particularly tough individually, the Zerglings make up for it
with Sheer Numbers and incredible Attack Speed and of course, their
upgrades allow them to shred armor and attack at nearly the Speed of
Sound
Hydralisks
The
Hydralisk is one of the coolest looking Zerg Units. With it's twin
forearms as scythe like weapons, it is actually a ranged warrior that
eject's spines from it's Upper Carapace Plates. And they have more
Spines to use than Legolas' Bow and Arrows!!!!! Badass!!!!! Oh yeah, Hydralisk can
also attack Aircraft.............. Never underestimate Hydralisks!!
Roaches
Roaches
are a Zerg unit that emit a corrosive spit that can melt through
anything, even Protoss Armor, which is durable enough to take multiple
Siege Tank strikes. Roaches are also unique in that when they burrow,
they can regenerate far more quickly. Better yet, Roaches can still
travel while burrowed, making it ideal for bypassing walls and attacking
enemy bases from the inside as a surprise attack. Compared to the
Zerglings and Hydralisk, Roaches have the highest level of Durability,
allowing them to survive more punishment.
Banelings
The
Baneling is an evolved form of the Zergling. Funny enough, it is at
first a slow moving balloon of acidic destruction, until it is upgraded
with Centrifugal Hooks, which allows them to move much faster, by
rolling..... I wonder if Sonic the Hedgehog gave them a lesson or two
XD!!!!
Funny
stuff aside, Banelings are extremely powerful. While they will die when
exploded, the corrosive blast is so great that it can decimate armies
quickly.
Infestors
One
of my personal favorite units of the Zerg is also, the most versatile.
The Infestors are a type of Zerg that has multiple abilities for any
situation.
Infested Terrans:
The basic ability of an Infestor is that it can eject eggs that hatch
Infested Terrans that can kill all types of enemies for a period of
time.
Fungal Growth:
Fungal Growth can damage a battalion of enemies in one place, holding
them together and damaging them overtime until they die or the duration
is timed out.
Neural Parasite:
Infestors have a Neural Parasite that allows them to mind control all
types of enemies under their control. This ability is so powerful, it
can even control Protoss Motherships, Colossi, Mechanical Beings and
Computers.....
Oh yeah, like Roaches, Infestors can move while burrowed down. Another great addition to their versatility :D
Lurkers
The
Evolved Form of the Hydralisk, Lurkers are actually less versatile than
the predecessor, but make up for it with it's really cool trick. You
see, when a Lurker burrows down, it unleashes a row of spines that is
scary enough to kill multiple enemies in a row. What is worse, should no
one have any form of detection, the Lurker is untouchable while it
attacks, badass :D!!!
Mutalisks
One
of the Zerg's most versatile fliers, The Mutalisk can attack both
ground and air units. While not particularly durable, they do have a
regeneration ability that allows them to heal quickly when out of
combat, making them ideal for hit and run tactics. But of course, their
main attack is a Glaive Wyrm that bounces across multiple enemies. While
effective, the damage gets weaker for each enemy hit. However, if
upgraded, the Glaive Wyrm can actually lose the bounce effect for a
bonus attack damage against armored foes, which actually makes it a nice
trade off :D!!!! Very versatile indeed.
Corruptors
The
Corruptor is a anti air flier that emits a Corrosive Blast from their
Maw that damages ships and air units with great efficiency. However,
their special ability is a Caustic Spray, that allows the Corruptor to damage a single unit overtime with a
stream of acid. Of course, Corruptors can evolve into Brood Lords, which
also means.....
Brood Lords
Brood
Lords are the Zerg's answer to Bombardment. While extremely slow, they
make up for it with it's unique ability to launch two broodlings into
the ground with such force, the impact can damage the enemy, even kill
them if sufficient damage is applied. The broodlings attack anything in
their vicinity for a brief moment until they die of natural causes, or are
simply killed...... Talk about the shortest life span ever XD!!!
Defiler
The Defiler is a Zerg support unit that uses three main abilities.
- Consume: Restores Energy by consuming allies.
- Plague:
Ejects a huge spore that damages both armies and buildings with deadly
results. While Plague does not entirely kill the victims, they do
however become so weak, they will eventually die from a single strike
from, well, anything, as a finishing blow. This ability is perfect for
hit and run tactics, and it is ideal for weakening armies before
Invasion commences. However, it also is very dangerous because it too
can affect Allies as well. So Plague must be used strategically and with
care :D
- Dark Swarm:
An ability that emits a large cloud that gives Zerg units a much higher
level of durability. This Ability is so powerful, even Zerglings can
still survive multiple Siege Tank Crucio Shock Cannon blasts, which
would destroy Zerglings in one hit.
Queen
There are two versions of the Queen. The First is a Flyer who can use three abilities
- Parasite: Parasite is the most powerful reconnaissance ability by the Zerg if not counting the Changeling unit from the Overseer (Coming up later :D) When
Parasite is applied, the Zerg can see what the victim can, and it is
ideal for strategic tactics like exposing weak points of defenses and
countering the enemy types with preparation and planning. I love it!!!
- Ensare:
This ability is similar to the Defiler's Plague, but it comes with a
twist. While it does not damage anything, it does however slow down both
allies and enemies significantly. This is perfect for chasing down
opponents that the Zerg are pursuing. Unfortunately, like Plague, it can
also affect Allies also, so again, it needs to be use strategically for
maximum effect.
- Spawn Broodlings:
An instant killer, this ability is basically the Zerg's answer to
Kenshiro's Hokuto Shin Ken, meaning, it is a one hit, one kill move
:D!!! While really badass, it drains up alot of energy and it is only
used on ground organic units. Still, very powerful
The
Queen also has one last trick in that it can infest a Terran Command
Center, which spawns "Infested Terrans". The Process requires a severely
damaged Command Center in order to trigger it and wala, looks alive!!!
The Second Queen Type (My favorite one since it is adorable!!!!)
This
version of the Queen is now more of a "Nurse" than an actual combatant.
Not to stay it is completely defenseless, as it projects spines to
attack both ground and air units. Here is the abilities of the Second
Queen
- Spawn Larva: This
ability allows the Queen to incubate multiple eggs in a hatchery that
spawn multiple larva at once. This actually increases the Zerg's Unit
production significantly.
- Transfusion: Transfusion is a healing ability. Nothing much to say aside from the fact it can also heal Zerg buildings as well :D
- Creep Tumors:
Creep Tumors are used to spread Creep across the ground to allow more
Zerg Structures to be built. Creep also Speeds up Zerg movement and is
also a source of sustenance for the Zerg.
Vipers
With
a name like that, you know your in for a deadly adversary. The Viper is
a Flying Support Zerg Unit that has interesting abilities.
- Abduct:
Allows the Viper to use one of the funniest Zerg abilities ever. You
see, this is used to allow ground units to move towards the Viper, for
better or worse. Better if the Viper wants allies who cannot climb
mountainous terrain to, well, reach their intended destination if the
Viper used Abduct on them to bypass obstacles :D!!!!......
But unfortunately, for the enemy, Abduct can be used to take away
ranged advantages such as a Siege Tank in Siege Mode now being
vulnerable to Zerglings at melee range thanks to being Abducted for
instance XD!!!!! Very versatile and very cool :D
- Blinding Cloud:
Similar to The Defiler's Dark Swarm. But, this is a cloud that has a
smaller radius but has a really cool ability in that it reduces range
attacks significantly. It is also very efficient in dealing with
defensive structures like the Terran Missile Tower, Bunkers, Zerg Spore
and Spine Colonies and Protoss Photon Cannons.
- Consume:
Like the Defiler, Vipers can use Consume to restore energy. But the
trick here this time is that it only works on friendly buildings. This
is actually the superior Consume because it does not run the risk of
losing your own army XD!!!!
Ravager
An
evolved form of the Roach, Ravagers emit a Corrosive Bile that can
attack both ground and air units at once by shooting upwards and then
landing to the ground. Perfect Artillery :D.
It has a standard attack that is a Plasma Discharge, which only attacks Ground units
Ultralisks
The
Badass, electrifying, intimidating, showstopping Zerg juggernaut.
Ultralisks are the Ultimate Ground Unit for the Zerg, well, second if we
are going to include one more type but hahah, that's coming up.
Aside
from hype packaging, The Ultralisk is a tank of unbelievable power. It
is armed with Kaiser Blades that shred through anything it attacks. The
range of these Blades are so great, entire battalions of enemies simply
die at once. Even buildings do not have the benefit of being unharmed,
as they too can be severely damaged by the Ultralisk Attacks.
However,
Ultralisks, when fully upgraded to their best, can be significantly
more durable with the Carapace Upgrade, and can have Anabolic Synthesis,
which drastically makes them faster..... I mean.... imagine a building
size monster running faster than a speeding car...... I.... I am
overwhelmed!!!!
Of
course, Ultralisks are immune to Stun, Slow, Mentality and Mind Control
Effects, making them very resistant to telepaths. While they were weak
to these types before, evolution allowed them to adapt to them and are
now completely safe from Mind attacks :D.
Overlords
Strangely
enough, Overlords are the supply line for the Zerg. They act as the
enforcers of the Zerg and as Transportation. Funny enough, they also can
evolve into an Overseer, which can spawn Changelings, a very funny looking Zerg that shapeshifts into the enemy's basic unit when in close proximity with a base. Overlords can also produce Creep, for base expansion.
|
Overseer
|
This
is perfect for reconnaissance since it can help expose weak points,
prepare for enemy strikes and the Changeling can speak the enemy's
language with perfect imitation!!!!
|
Changeling
|
Swarm Host
The
Siege Tank of the Zerg, Swarm Hosts are huge mobile units that spawn
little locusts that eject corrosive spit that can destroy anything.
Unfortunately, the inconsistency of the Swarm Host capabilities make it
difficult to pinpoint due to numerous patches to Starcraft 2.
Thankfully,
the Heart of the Swarm Campaign makes them more badass by allowing them
to have a choice of flying locusts, a versatility upgrade that allows
the locusts to attack both ground and air units, and even a burrow
upgrade that makes them burrow down properly........ hmmmmmm, not
exactly effective XD!!!!
Devourer
Devourer's
are a mutated form of the Mutalisk, and what is interesting about them
is that they are the most durable air unit of the Zerg Swarm if not
counting one more flier that I will mention soon. Devourer's spit out a
Corrosive Acid that not only damages the enemy aircraft, but reduce
their armor significantly. Thus, it's attack softens up enemy fliers to
multiple killshots that make it ideal for team work and strategic
removal of powerful enemies...... Badass :D
Guardians
Guardians
are essentially an earlier version of the Brood Lord. However, they
shoot acid spores that are so powerful, a single strike can kill a
Terran Marine in one or two hits. Guardians can only attack ground units
and buildings, but they are extremely effective in that department,
even more so since they attack outside of a Missile Tower's range for
instance.
Scourge
Scourge
are suicidal fliers for the Zerg that deal massive damage to even
capital class ships like Battlecruisers and Carriers. Infact, just 8-10
of scourge fliers can destroy a Battlecruiser instantly. Awesome stuff
:D
Infested Terrans
The
Infested Terrans come in two versions. The First is a suicidal maniac
with delusions of death that literally kills itself in order to destroy
buildings and armies in a wide area............ Reminds me of George
Hancock XD!!!
The
second version is a ranged unit spawned from an Infestor's Ability that
is versatile but very slow and has a short lifespan. Still, a swarm of
Infested Terrans are very powerful against any foe :D

Infested Terran 2.0
|
The Special Forces
The
Zerg are powerful, but it is their Special Forces that make them
accomplish wonders. These are the "Elite" Units of the Zerg.
Devouring One: An
elite version of the Zergling, the Devouring One is simply much more
powerful than a basic Zergling in every way. Stronger Carapace for better
defense, Faster Speed and more powerful strikes. Bing Badda Boom :D!!!
|
Devouring One
|
Hunter Killer: The
Elite form of a Hydralisk, Hunter Killers are almost 4 times more
powerful than the regular Hydralisk. Very powerful, very efficient, very
badass :D
|
Hunter Killer
|
Torrasque: ................ Saying this is almost 4 times stronger than a regular Ultralisk is already too much.
|
Torrasque Ultralisk
|
Miranda: Remember, they can reincarnate.
Grandmaster: Yep...........
Hancock: What's that? Torrasque can self resurrect even after dying?
Miranda: Well
the process takes about 10 seconds but yeah, Torrasque Ultralisks can
reincarnate even after death........ It does run on a 60 second cool
down period but that's the only drawback
Hancock: Heh........ I am already scared of this guy
Estrella: What is this? A huge mutated Elephant?
Miranda: Technically not any type of Elephant Estrella. It is a-
Estrella: IT IS SOOOOOO COOOL!!!!!! I AM TAKING IT HOME WITH ME!!!!
(Estrella
moves towards the Ultralisk and kisses the Kaiser blade, which made the
Ultralisk smile and blush. Estrella then puts her hand on the Ultralisk
and then teleports herself home with it)
Larry: Seriously, what is up with Estrella taking some of the combatants lately?
Miranda: Clearly, she is too innocent for this particular matter.
Hancock: She is certainly something, but I think she is going to be fine with something that LITERALLY RESURRECTS ITSELF!!!!!
Grandmaster: Everyone calm down, it's not like it is going to get any worse from here right?
(A Brutalisk moves in the room)
Grandmaster: Uh..... oh.....
Brutalisk
Brutalisks
are the single most powerful Ground Zerg Unit ever. As they are armed with two
large forearms that can destroy anything in their path. What is worse,
they can emit a huge corrosive blast that can destroy aircraft also. A
versatile......... Scary...... and.... ummm what are you doing Larry?
Larry: Hey, this guy is actually pretty badass!!!!! Hey buddy, can you talk?
Brutalisk: rrrrraararrararahhhhggghhh!!!! Grrrrrruuuhhhhhaaaaaghhhhh!!!
Larry: Ok then....... let me give you a-
(The Brutalisk is easily annoyed by Larry, and flicks him 2kms into the sky)
Miranda: Oh my god!!!! What did you do to Larry?
Hancock: First Estrella took two combatants away for some weird reason and now this guy just killed Larry!!!! What is going on here!!!
Grandmaster: I shall put an end to this!!!
(The
Grandmaster uses his Ice Power to freeze the Brutalisk in place........
it breaks free. However, it then goes into stasis thanks to Miranda's
Power and Hancock's Mind Control that bypasses logic XD!!)
Grandmaster: Well, I guess this is the end for Larry.
Miranda: The poor guy, he never gave me my scanning device back!!
Hancock: You only miss the device and not Larry Miranda
Miranda: But Larry had heart, I miss the poor fella already.
(After 4 seconds, Larry lands infront of Miranda from the sky, completely bruised, but alive)
Larry: Ugh, that monster is worse than Mr X
|
Larry.... again?
|
Miranda: LARRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO GLAD YOUR OK!!!!!
(Miranda quickly hugs Larry, and then cleverly takes the device from his hand)
Larry: Hey!!!! That is mine!!!!
Miranda: No!!!! I made it silly boy
Hancock: Calm down both of you, now, let's just finish this match up already, continue Grandmaster
The Leviathan
The
Leviathan is the largest Zerg Unit in existence. It is literally the
size of a Moon, can travel across space and of course, is used for
Interstellar Travel. One such Leviathan is used as Kerrigan's Base of
Operations. A Leviathan holds an Evolution Chamber, War Room, Technology
Room and can house Millions of Zerg at once.
Leviathans also send down drop pods, which are used to send down Zerg Units and even structures for Planetary invasion
Oh
and before I end it's info, it can be a highly effective combatant in
all fields, ranging from spawning swarms of fliers for added air defense,
can emit huge Corrosive Blasts that decimates Armies, can use it's
tentacles to grapple star ships, space stations and even for attacking
ground forces........ Yeah, the Leviathan is a whopper of a
whopper!!!!!
Sarah Kerrigan
Sarah
Kerrigan, better known as "The Queen of Blades" is the single most
destructive leader of the Zerg Swarm. While her powers and capabilities
are varied, I will do a quick rundown of her signature abilities.
Psionic Storms:
Kerrigan can manipulate lightning using her Psionic Power. A technique
used by Protoss High Templar, Kerrigan is able to master it's use and
can destroy entire armies with a single Storm. It is especially
effective against cluster groups of enemies
Ensare: As mentioned above from the Queen's ability segment, Kerrigan can use Ensare to slow down foes
Consume: Kerrigan can consume her own Zerg to restore energy. Even she can consume other allies for that matter :D
Kinetic Blast:
A badass telekinetic blast that crushes the opponent, dealing massive
damage. Kerrigan can use this ability to quickly destroy some of the
toughest enemies in Starcraft
Energy Blast: A
lightning attack that can be modified with a Chain Reaction Skill that
allows it to become Chain Lightning, which damages groups of enemies at
once
Leaping Strike: Kerrigan
can cross multiple platforms with this ability, but also, it is a very
effective attack, as it deals high levels of damage whenever Kerrigan
lands on her enemy.
Apocalypse: Can conjure a powerful blast that can destroy an entire base. This attack can deal bonus damage to structures.
Mend:
Kerrigan can heal herself and fellow Zerg, giving them greater
survivability. It also has a regeneration effect after it is triggered
Wild Mutation: Kerrigan
can amplify her Zerg Army with Wild Mutation, increasing their health
and attack speed significantly. Unfortunately, it does not affect Heroic
Types like the Brutalisk and Leviathan :(
Spawn Leviathan: It.............. summons a Leviathan, which, well I already said enough XD!!!
Xel'Naga Kerrigan
This
is the final form of Kerrigan. After combining her essence with Tassadar,
Kerrigan became, what I can describe, the single most powerful entity
in Starcraft. In this form, Kerrigan became virtually unstoppable,
Immensely powerful, and outright a casual planet buster (If she wanted to but there is one ability that helps her claim that level)
Here is the list of Abilities used by Kerrigan in her Xel'Naga Form
Quantum Ray: A Beam attack that deals massive damage. Can affect both Units and Buildings
Creep Teleport: Kerrigan
can use this ability to teleport both herself and nearby Zerg towards
distant places with Creep. It does not affect Overlords or the Drones (Builders of the Zerg with limited combat potential XD!!!)
Celestial Radiance: Heals Kerrigan and nearby Zerg. Similar to Mend but more powerful
Extinction:
Pretty much the single coolest ability in Starcraft, Extinction more
than lives up to it's name, as it emits a planet sized blast that
destroys all enemies instantly.
The Zerg Creep and Structures
|
A Zerg Base with Creep and Structures
|
The
Zerg have a specific characteristic in terms of their base building,
and it is the presence of an organic substance known as "Creep"
Creep
is used by the Zerg to build structures, by sacrificing a Drone,
mutating it into any structure they desire. Even cooler, Zerg need
specific structures in order to spawn certain type of units from their
Hatchery/Lair/Hive. For the sake of this blog, I decided to list the
entire structure line of the Zerg. Here is the Rundown
Spawning Pool: Allows Zerg to spawn Zerglings
Hydralisk Den: Allows Zerg to spawn Hydralisks. If the Hatchery evolved into a Lair, Lurkers can be created by mutating Hydralisks (Only done in Starcraft 1). Can mutate into a Lurker Den
Roach Warren (Starcraft 2): Allows Zerg to spawn Roaches and upgrade to Ravagers
Baneling Nest (Starcraft 2): Allows Zerglings to Mutate into Banelings
Lurker Den (Starcraft 2): Allows Hydralisk to Mutate into Lurkers. Evolved from the Hydralisk Den
Creep Colony (Starcraft 1): Can be built to spread Creep. It can also be upgraded into a Sunken Colony or Spore Colony for Ground and Air Defense
Sunken Colony (Starcraft 1): Evolved from the Creep Colony, Sunken Colonies attack ground forces with their Subterranean Tentacles
Spore Colony (Starcraft 1): An alternative evolution form for the Creep Colony, Spore Colonies Project Seeker Spores that always hit their intended target. Can only attack aircraft and fliers. Spore Colonies also can detect burrowed/cloaked forces
Spine Crawlers (Starcraft 2): Spine Crawlers attack Ground forces with their elongated impaling spine that deals deadly results. They can Uproot themselves to move across the map but they can only attack when they are Rooted on Creep.
|
Spine Crawler. Left: Rooted. Right: Uprooted
|
Spore Crawlers (Starcraft 2): Spore Crawlers only attack aircraft and fliers and are able to detect burrowed/cloaked forces. Spore Crawlers can Uproot themselves and Root ontop of ground covered by creep in order to attack
|
Spore Crawler. Left: Rooted. Right: Uprooted
|
Evolution Chamber: A structure built to help upgrade Zerg forces with increased Attack and Defense
Queen's Nest (Starcraft 1): Allows Zerg to Spawn Queens
Infestor Nest (Starcraft 2): Allows Zerg to Spawn Infestors
Spire: Allows the Zerg to Spawn Mutalisks and Scourge
Greater Spire: The evolved version of the Spire. Allows Mutalisks to Mutate into either a Guardian, Devourer or a Brood Lord (Campaign only). It can also allow the Zerg to Spawn Corruptors, who can also mutate into a Brood Lords
Defiler Mound (Starcraft 1): Allows the Zerg to spawn Defilers
Ultralisk Cavern: Allows the Zerg to spawn those badasses!!!!!
Nydus Canal (Starcraft 1): A structure that transports the Zerg to any location with Creep that has a Nydus Canal created from the Original.
Nydus Network (Starcraft 2):
A superior version of the Nydus Canal, The Nydus Network uses a Nydus
Worm for transportation and invasion. No creep is required to place the
Nydus Worm
The Hatchery/Lair/Hive: We
simply cannot generate enough creep, or create units, without the use
of a base. The Hatchery is the heart of any Zerg Colony. It is used to
spawn larva, which are used to create warriors and drones for resource
gathering. It also spreads creep on open ground, so that other Zerg structures can be built
|

|
|
Lair
|
|
Hive
|
Extractor: Extractors are used to harvest Vespene Gas from a Vespene Geyser
Regeneration
Every
Zerg Unit and building can also regenerate health. While the
regeneration is not even close to the same level of speed as Wolverine's
healing factor, the regeneration is still good enough to increase
survivability of the Zerg. The regeneration really kicks in when the Zerg are out of combat. Still, after a few minutes of regeneration, the Zerg are able to fight again once more :D!!!
Tactics
|
Zerg attacking a Protoss Base
|
In terms of Tactics, The Zerg are extremely adaptable and very versatile due to their masterful use of their specialized forces.
Zergling Rushing has become one of the most famous strategies employed by the Zerg since it can end a match in just under 4 minutes. However, more strategic players tend to take their time and tech up and counter anything with the right Zerg Unit.
Zerg are amazing at ambush, since most Zerg can actually Burrow down and remain undetected unless there is a Detector Class Unit with a Scanner or even another Enemy Overlord (TRAITOR!!!). When the Zerg are detected when Burrowed, they will be defenseless to all types of attacks if they do not retaliate. Lurkers do attack back, but they cannot attack flying units.
But by far, the most amazing trick for the Zerg is their recon. They are the most effective recon army that is rivaled only by the Terran's Scan Sweep ability from the Command Center. This is due to the Queen's Parasite Ability and the Overseers Changeling. Recon means preparation and perfect counters :D.
Of course, Zerg are known for attacking in huge numbers, and are more than capable of dominating the battlefield with brute force and overwhelming numbers.
Feats by the Zerg
Being one of the Three Major Powers of the Koprulu Sector, The Zerg are not without amazing wonders. Here is a list of feats achieved by the Zerg Swarm
- Has defeated Terran Forces and Protoss Warriors on a Regular Basis, both of which are far more advanced than the Zerg in terms of Technology and individual firepower
- Forced a group of Terran Looney Toons to self destruct the Amerigo............. Cowards!!!
- Have slaughtered countless Protoss on Aiur, Shakuras, even conquered Mar Sara and Char, both of which were occupied by Terran Forces
- Has officially, and cleanly, defeated Arcturus Mengsk's Forces at Korhal..... Twice!!!!!
- Has defeated the combined might of the Protoss, Admiral Dugalle's United Earth Directorate Fleet and Arcturus' Sons of Korhal Forces in a bloody massacre. The aftermath shows that the UED fleet were annihilated by the Swarm as they attempted to flee back to Earth
- Defeated General Warfield on Char
- Defeated and Tamed the Primal Zerg on Zerus (Another Story for another time :D)
- Helped the Terrans and Protoss defeat Amon in what is the single best team up in all of fiction.
|
"RUFF RUFF!!!"
|
And this!!!!
|
Hello!!!!!!!
|
Estrella: OOOOH!!!!! LOOK AT THOSE CUTIES!!!!
Grandmaster: Oh god, here we go again
(Estrella takes both the Cartooned Zergling and Hydralisk with her back at home............. somebody find me a drink of water XD!!!)
Weaknesses
|
Zerg Hydralisks and Zerglings fighting other Zerg
|
Unfortunately, despite their ferocity, intelligence and adaptability, the Zerg suffer from two major drawbacks
1. They are technically the most primitive of the Three Major Powers in terms of Technology. This is quite a huge drawback because the Zerg only can keep up by evolving or by changing tactics. While the latter is a great idea, you have to remember that individually, A Zerg Unit is far weaker than the Terrans and Protoss. The Zerg are more of an expendable army, as they usually sacrifice their own units to gain insight to their capabilities. More of a counter to the weakness, but still worth mentioning.
2. Zerg Structures, if destroyed, can prevent production of specific Zerg units. If a Zerg Structure is destroyed, the type of warriors that are connected to it cannot be spawned anymore unless the same structure is rebuilt (Or re mutated) by a drone.
Then again, the drawback is even worse when you consider that if Creep is removed, most of the Zerg Structures are unable to be built at all. The only structure than can be built upon open ground are the Hatchery, and that takes a while to build.
Still, despite their faults, the Zerg are by far a really badass and amazing Warrior Species. They are simply put, perfectly suited for any situation.
Summary
The Arachnids
Advantages
- The Arachnid Warrior Bugs would kill a Zergling in terms of 1v1 combat
- Plasma Bugs can Destroy Leviathans if they aim at critical points
- Are more bloodthirsty and more ruthless than the Zerg
Disadvantages
- Are outright outclassed in all fields of combat such as Air and Ground due to the Zerg having more advanced Unit Types like the Ultralisks, Brutalisks and Leviathans
- If Sarah Kerrigan is involved in the battle, the war is over immediately.
- Hydralisks can pierce all types of the Bugs since they are capable of taking down Battlecruisers and Carriers when fighting in groups. The Ice Bugs would literally be decimated by them XD!!!!
- Their Control Bugs and Imposter Bugs are laughable compared to the Changeling in terms of infiltration
- A single Ultralisk is capable of taking down an entire legion of Arachnid Warriors by itself............
- If a Torrasque is used, it is overkill XD!!!!
- Mutalisks are simply far more advanced than the Hoppers and Fireflies
- The Zerg are simply way more intelligent and more strategic
- Nowhere near as versatile
- While cool, the Zerg are much cooler in terms of design
- Sarah Kerrigan is just...... overkill both as a combatant and as a character XD!!!
The Zerg
Advantages
- Are more advanced in terms of both Ground and Air Combat. Especially with the Brutalisk and Leviathan
- If Kerrigan comes into play, the War is already over due to her power and her godlike Xel'Naga Form
- A group of Hydralisks are simply capable of destroying all types of Arachnids, even the Ice Bug would be destroyed XD!!!
- A single Ultralisk is capable of slaying hundreds, if not thousands of Arachnid Warriors
- Torrasque Ultralisk? Yeah, that's the showstopper
- Mutalisks alone are more than capable of destroying both the Arachnid Fliers and the entire ground forces.
- Far greater Recon Skills than the Arachnids thanks to the Queen's Parasite and the Overseer's Changeling
- Far more Strategic and more intelligent
- Cooler than the Arachnids, despite the really awesome Arachnid Warrior Design. Hydralisk>Arachnid Warrior Design
- Kerrigan is simply overkill both as a character and as a badass XD!!!!
Disadvantages
- An
individual Arachnid Warrior is capable of killing at least a single
Zergling in terms of 1v1 combat due to it's size and greater power
- Less Numerous than the Arachnids.
- If the Leviathans are not careful, the Plasma Bugs would destroy them
- Not quite as ruthless and bloodthirsty as the Arachnids
The Verdict
By far one of my favorite match ups since childhood, The Arachnids vs The Zerg is the most fun I ever researched in a while. Unfortunately, it is not a close call, as, well, you probably knew it by now, The Zerg are simply too powerful in all categories.
While the Arachnids are more numerous, that's literally it. Everything else goes to the Zerg due to a number of advantages they have that are outright game changing.
- More Advanced Warriors
- Versatility
- Sarah Kerrigan
Firstly, while the Arachnids have evolved for Millions of Years, the Zerg have evolved since the dawn of creation. Which already cements their status as the more experienced and more evolved species.
Even if you use the Book Version of the Arachnids, they are nothing that the Zerg haven't seen before anyway, who have faced both the Terrans and Protoss, both of which are capable of Warp Travel and are technologically advanced. And the Zerg have defeated them on a regular basis anyway.
Versatility wise, both The Arachnids and the Zerg are versatile, but it is the Zerg who takes this in spades due to having units that can attack both air and ground forces like the Hydralisk, Mutalisk and The Leviathan and Brutalisk. The Arachnids do have the Plasma Bugs and Grenadiers, but they lack the mobility of the Zerg Units to keep up.
Yeah, individually, a Zerg Warrior can beat any Arachnid any day. While a 1v1 fight between the Zergling and the Arachnid Warrior goes in the Arachnid's Favor, an Ultralisk already ups the ante due to it's sweeping strikes and of course, it's insane durability that literally makes it too much for an army of Arachnid Warriors to handle
Even Worse, the Torrasque Strain of the Ultralisk can self resurrect in battle, which already makes it too hard for the Arachnids to put down for good.
But of course, the Two Monsters of the Zerg, The Brutalisk and The Leviathan, literally end the War quickly. While the Plasma Bugs and Plasma Grenadiers may help, they simply do not have the damage output to put both the Brutalisk and Leviathan down at all.
Things are not looking good for the Arachnids....... So we have to use the Behemecoatyl and Queen Bug in order for them to have a chance...... Well. No XD!!! They do not matter because of one more trump card.....
|
I am your Queen!!!
|
Using the Arachnids most Powerful Bugs, we have to use the Zerg's most powerful entity.
Sarah Kerrigan
Once Kerrigan enters the battle, it is over. Why? Because she has immense power, can buff herself and her Zerg army, can literally spawn another Leviathan, unleash Apocalypse and...... well..... This.....
Yeah, Xel'Naga Kerrigan? This badass literally causes Planet wide extinction...... The War is finally finished. The Arachnids just got "Squashed"
In the end, due to their Versatility, Advanced Warriors, Sarah Kerrigan and Cool designs and a Cartoon version of themselves, I believe that the Zerg will win the War against the Arachnids
|
The Winners are The Zerg

And now, the Season 4 Finale of Who Would Win......
Vs..........
The Rematch of the Century.........
