Greetings and Welcome to another edition of my Who Would Win Series and it is going to be a Boss Battle between the El Gigante from Resident Evil vs The Guardian Ape from Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
This blog is actually not gonna be too long since both combatants really do not exactly have the longest resume in terms of Feats and Accomplishments. This is basically Stat Blocks all over the Board. Which means I will go into
That's...... Basically It XD!!!!
Without Further ado, let's begin.
The El Gigante is actually a Test Subject for an Experiment done by the Cultist Group known as the "Los Iluminados".
A Gigantic Behemoth that is Four Times the Height of a Human and Way Stronger and Way More Intimidating, this B.O.W (Bio Organic Weapon) was a Monster of Epic Proportions.
Now, that is a brief background for the El Gigante. Let's see what it can do
El Gigante is a Strong Brute. Possessing Gigantic Strength, this behemoth can cause alot of Mayhem.
Here are some noteworthy Feats for Strength and Durability
- Can carry large Trees and use them as clubs.
- Can grapple Leon with enough force to break bones.
- Has endured Boulder's Smashing behind his back
- Took Shotgun, Assault Rifle, TMP, Grenades and Critical Hits.
- It's Parasite (I will get into Later) can survive multiple Gunshots and Knife Strikes
Parasite (Los Plagas)
The Los Plagas Parasite is what keeps El Gigante Alive. Infact, this also adds more Durability since it is also a extra layer of Life in a sense. However, as seen across the Resident Evil games, Parasitic organisms have a weakness to Flash Bang Grenades and, well, they are also not a fan of Knives....... Haha.
Sufficient Damage to the Parasite will not only kill it, it also removes it's control of it's host, which also kills them effectively. Then again, characters like Jill Valentine were infected but were cured thanks to specific circumstances (Though the Parasite that infected Jill is different, it still had the same function as any other Parasite)
Weaponry
Well, as you can see, El Gigante only used a Tree..... Large, Hard Hitting. It gets the Job Done.
Then again, it has its Arms and Feet for Crushing and Grappling. Scary indeed
It also has a Partner?
Well, this is actually a different boss fight featuring more El Gigante but yeah, Two at once? That is scary!!!!!! And one of them is labelled "Grazed" which is interesting, considering it now wears more armor that gives it a bit more resistance to damage.
Weaknesses
Unfortunately, El Gigante IS VERY SLOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I mean, even jogging away from it is pretty much enough to escape it. Yes, it takes long strides but the catch is that it's Attack Speed is super slow. No wonder why Leon had little trouble avoiding it's attacks, it is as slow as a Sloth.
Added that this guy is also very easy to defeat once you realize, it is predictable and very basic with it's attacks. It also lacks any notable abilities to compensate for it's sluggish movement.
Finally, as mentioned before, once you kill the Parasite, El Gigante is dead Permanently. Oooof
Still, El Gigante is a memorable Boss with Tremendous Strength and a Cool Design :D!!!
The Guardian Ape
The Guardian Ape is one of the Bosses in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
An Immortal Being, the Ape actually lived a Peaceful life with it's Mate. Unfortunately, while the Ape lived longer, his mate sadly passed onto the Afterlife. Thus, this Lonely Ape decided to Guard a little Flower known as "The Lotus of the Palace" because it's Aroma would attract a New Mate.
Unfortunately, those plans were cut Short (No Pun Intended) by Legendary Shinobi Warrior Sekiro, who killed the Guardian Ape and the rest was history........... haha......
Not really, The Ape actually was defeated but not fully killed, you see, it eventually met Sekiro one last time before his descent into Mibu Village (Ashina's Depths). Despite it's new Mate coming over after a howling call, The Ape still lost against Sekiro and was finally put down thanks to his Mortal Blade.
The Legendary Ape finally moved into the Afterlife with his newfound mate............ How Tragic.....
That is a basic but generalized background for the Guardian Ape. Let's look at what Donkey Kong's Cousin is capable of.
Stats
The Ape is actually very versatile in terms of Stats. Strong, Fast and Surprisingly Durable. It has Feats across all Categories. Let's take a look.
- Strong enough to swipe away Thin Trees with a backhand
- Threw.................It's own Feces at Sekiro at High Speeds............ Hmmmmmm XD!!!!
- Can grapple Sekiro and slam him to the Ground with enough force to break bones.
- Can jump across 20-30ft across in a single bound.
- Can pummel it's fists and slam the ground with comparable speed to Sekiro's Sword Strikes, Who Can block bullets.
- Endured Firebased Attacks such as The Flame Vent, which can burn with greater efficiency when Oil is applied.
- Did tank alot of Sekiro's Sword Strikes, the same strikes that can cause posture damage to the likes of The Armored Warrior and The Chained Ogre.
Parasite
The Centipedes in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice are actually Parasitic entities that grant "Immortality" to their hosts. Infact, the only real way to permanently kill them is to use the Mortal Blade. This pretty much cements the host as Unkillable, so long as they do not experience the Mortal Blade up close and personal.
Which is also another factor to consider for the Ape since......
Yep, The Ape now can still do a Second Wind when it is Headless. Now renamed "Headless Ape". Such a Horror to behold!!!
Weaponry
The Ape actually only used one Weapon. However, it is gruesome in a sense that this is the same No Dachi (Long Katana) that was pierced through it's Throat. When Sekiro Decapitated the Ape, it became Headless and now is able to wield the No Dachi on one hand and holds it's severed head in the other for sight.
Obviously, this blade is sharp and deadly. At the hands of the Ape, the force behind it's strikes are astronomical. Almost to the point of being unblockable if not timed properly with the deflection system of the game.
Abilities
|
The Scream
|
The Ape actually has Three main Abilities. However, Two of them are completely exclusive to it's Original Phase when it still was "A Head of the Game" XD!!!!!
Phase 1
- A Fart...... No Seriously, the Ape Farts on Sekiro's Face if he is behind it. It causes no damage but it emits a Poisonous Cloud that if Sekiro stays for too long, he will be "Poisoned".
- And...... The Poop Throw....... Yep. Had to mention it again. It is thrown at High Speeds and has the Force Comparable to a Speeding Car................ Hahahahhahahahah!!!
|
The Poop Throw....... Let's Move on XD!!!
|
Phase 2
|
It wants more "Scream Time" XD!!!
|
The Final Phase with the Ape possesses one of the most dangerous abilities in the Game. It puts its head back to it's neck for a few seconds and emits a Roar. However, this is not just any roar, when this Roar is triggered, Sekiro must escape from it's vicinity, otherwise, if he stayed for too long, he will suffer from Terror Build up. If the Terror Meter is full, Sekiro will die from sheer "Terror" XD!!!!! But yes, it means that it is highly effective against foes who feel fear.
Awwwwww.... Check this out!!!
|
A Lovely Couple!!!! XD!!!
|
Yep. The Ape actually had a Third Round Against Sekiro later in the game, but at one point, it called for it's New Mate to give a helping hand. Unfortunately, just like before, The Ape and now it's Mate were defeated..... Which means......
Weaknesses
Despite it's Versatile and Mobile Moveset and capabilities, the Ape is actually pretty easy to take down once you pinpoint it's weaknesses.
Firstly, it lacks solid Defenses against Strong attacks. This is especially scary when a Sword swing from Sekiro can chip about 3% of it's Health and even cause posture Damage. Two birds in one stone.
Posture is another problem, if the Ape's Posture Meter is full, it becomes susceptible to a Deathblow, which can finish him..... At least it is immortal though, so when it goes Headless, it now has a Second Wind right? Yeah but....
If anyone has something that nullifies Immortality, then the Ape's Chances go downhill from that point. If you can take away it's immortality by killing the Parasitic Centipede, you pretty much permanently killed him effectively.
Another flaw for the Ape is that it is vulnerable to Firecrackers and Fire based attacks. Firecrackers will stun it for a brief moment while Flame attacks with do serious damage when at point blank range. Also can stun the Ape for a moment.
Still, The Guardian Ape is cool, Funny, Scary, full of personality and finally had it's moment with it's Mate in the Afterlife for Eternity :D!!!
(Excuse me for the Sarcastic Joke XD!!!)
Summary
El Gigante
Advantages
- Two El Gigante vs The Guardian Ape and It's Mate means it is more Strength and Durability in a 2v2 fight
- Stronger Grappling Technique
Disadvantages
- Despite it's Power, El Gigante simply has no way to bypass the Guardian Ape's Immortality
- Can pretty much Die from the Ape's Scream
- Two Apes vs Two El Gigante Adds more Speed and Mobility for the Apes
The Guardian Ape
Advantages
- Scream literally one shots the El Gigante
- 2v2 with it's Mate adds more Mobility and Speed
Disadvantages
- It's Grappling Techniques do not have the same Crushing Pressure as the El Gigante
- 2v2 With it's Mate cannot compare in terms of Strength and Durability
The Verdict
In a Rather interesting match up. El Gigante vs The Guardian Ape did bring alot of factors into the table. However, this ends up being a massive stomp once you realize, one is killable by all means and the other can only be killed by specific circumstances. In this case, The Guardian Ape "Cannot Lose" This fight.
While Stats actually do not really matter here since we already established the Immortality Factor, No matter how Powerful the El Gigante is, if it cannot permanently kill the Guardian Ape, it pretty much is kicking a Dead Horse. On the flip side, the fact that the Ape has Much greater Speed also gives it an advantage against El Gigante. So really, this is looking grim for El Gigante but it gets worse.
But, let's assume that El Gigante will Decapitate The Ape with a bit of Luck. Let's Assume he does use the Blade to remove it's head. Well......
Yep. Phase 2 suddenly comes by and now we have the Ape with a Sword that can slice up El Gigante. If Leon's Knife can cause damage against El Gigante, I have no doubt that the Guardian Ape's Sword would be astronomical against El Gigante. But the real deal here is that the Ape has it's Scream that solidifies it's claim to victory.
|
The Finisher |
Since El Gigante would be too slow to escape the Scream, it would suffer from Terror Buildup and then finally die the moment it felt "Fear". Oooof.
But then, 2v2? Two El Gigantes vs 2 Apes? Nahhhh, Not much different. Again, the Scream alone pretty much one shots both at once since again, Too Slow and Terror Build up. The Ape's Mate is also too quick for both El Gigante's to Catch anyway. Even if you remove her out of the fight, both El Gigante's against the Lone Headless Ape still cannot kill the Ape permanently since it is immortal and both have no way to nullify it's immortality.
Looks like this Fight is just a mismatch. Trust me. "Evil Certainly Died Twice" XD!!!!

The Winner is the Guardian Ape (And it's Mate)

Next Time on Who Would Win........
