Season 6: Kyojuro Rengoku (Kimetsu No Yaiba/Demon Slayer) vs Mirio Togata (My Hero Academia)

Greetings and Welcome to a highly anticipated Match Up between two Cheerful and Powerful characters that are Kyojuro Rengoku from Kimetsu No Yaiba/Demon Slayer and Mirio Togata from My Hero Academia.

This blog is quite basic in a sense that neither character is particularly Utility Based.Thankfully, the overall information is clean, simple but also exciting :D!!!

Rengoku's Information will be provided from the Manga, Anime and even the film "Mugen Train".

Mirio on the other Hand is very easy. Manga, Anime...... Yep :D!!!!

As usual, I will go into the Stats, Abilities, Skills, Feats, Weaknesses and finally, who I believe will win this match up that puts "A Smile on Everyone's Faces" :D!!!

Let's begin!!

Kyojuro Rengoku (Spoilers)

Kyojuro Rengoku is the Flame Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps.

Rengoku's story is actually, not very long. He is the son of Shinjuro Rengoku, who also happens to be the Former Flame Hashira back in his prime time days, before his retirement of course.

Kyojuro (I'll be referring him to Rengoku from this point forward) lost his mother who was fighting an incurable disease sometime after his brother Senjuro was born.

That's...... pretty much the entire backdrop for Rengoku's Past life. Here is the main Storyline for Rengoku's Role in the Series.

Eventually, Rengoku trained up to become the Flame Hashira, and was one of the Members of the Demon Slayer Corps who quickly judged the trial of Nezuko Kamado, who became a Demon. However, Nezuko's Brother, Tanjiro, pleaded for Mercy on Nezuko. Despite tense disagreement, it was Kagaya Ubuyashiki who made the final word, that Nezuko and Tanjiro must prove their worth by defeating a Twelve Kizuki.

After the trial, Rengoku was tasked on a mission to investigate a series of brutal attacks on a Small Village. He then goes onto the Mugen Train, which, as it turns out, a Demon known as Enmu was involved. Killing People in their Sleep (Freddy Krueger would be proud) Enmu tried to not only kill Rengoku, but also Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke. Fortunately, Enmu's plan was backfired, when cute sister Nezuko woke up her Brother to help wake everyone else up and fight back. Eventually, Rengoku and his friends did stop Enmu, but then this happened.....

Ahhhh, Hello Akaza!!!

Rengoku fought Akaza and almost beat the Upper Moon Rank Demon..... Unforuntately, he didn't finish the job. Though technically Rengoku did win the fight by forfeit and Akaza being a coward, it cost Rengoku his own life. However, at least Rengoku spoke to his mother's Spirit, who said to him that he did "A Wonderful Job"

Thus..... this happened......

He died with a Smile....... :(

And so, Rengoku's Death was a significant moment in the Demon Slayer story, it ushered in a dreaded omen that the Demons are stronger and smarter than ever before........ At least Rengoku did tell Tanjiro that Nezuko is "Special" :D!!!!

That's is a generalized look at Rengoku's Overall Story. Let's look at the Flame Hashira's Capabilities

Physical Stats

Rengoku is actually a beast in combat. Possessing Superhuman Capabilities, Rengoku has quite a list of impressive feats.

Strength

  • Superior to Tanjiro, who can slice a Boulder
  • Was able to push Akaza back towards  a Forest with a single Sword Swing
  • By Dashing Forward, Rengoku created enough force to, I kid you not, lift the Mugen Train off it's tracks. This goes to around 200 tons worth of Force!!!!!!
  • Using his Grip Strength, Rengoku held Akaza long enough for a solid grasp. This is monumental, considering that Akaza is one of the absolute strongest characters of the entire Demon Slayer series. For reference, a lower Ranked Demon was capable of creating mini fissures into the Ground, this means Akaza would be well above that Strength level since he is an Upper 3 Class.
  • Can slice through Enmu's Fleshy Substance around the Train easily.
  • In terms of Strength, Rengoku would be above Average compared to fellow Hashira. All of which are Superhuman, Giyu in particular held his own against Akaza and other Strong Demons.

Speed

  • Stalemated Akaza, who again, is an Upper 3 Ranked Demon, who can go Faster than Sound Speeds. For reference, later in the Entertainment District Arc, Tengen Uzui can "Teleport". This is the same guy who fought Gyutaro and Daki, both of which can perceive Lightning timing feats. However, it is worth noting that both Gyutaro and Daki are lowered ranked than Akaza. This puts Rengoku's Overall Speed well above Lightning timing. That is easy to pinpoint after all :D!!! Oh, and this is also Travel and Combat Speed.
  • Dashed across the Mugen Train in a time span of a few seconds. The Distance it took for Rengoku to achieve this is around 500 meters. But, this is not factoring the curved tracks and obstacles he had to pass through to reach a certain point to stop. That means, Rengoku can also move so fast, he "Teleports".
  • Superior to the likes of Zenitsu, who is Lightning Timing since, well, "Thunder Breathing.... First Form" XD!!!!

Durability

Now, this is when it gets tricky for Rengoku, his Durability should be comparable to most of the Demon Slayer characters such as Tanjiro, who can survive being smashed across buildings. That said, he has fought Akaza, who, well you know, is a Top 3 Ranked Demon that has tremendous Strength.

Rengoku does have amazing resilience, even kept fighting while having his left eye damaged and his stomach punctured. And I thought Leone from Akame Ga Kill was resilient, Rengoku might be her match :D!!!!

Nichirin Katana

Rengoku wields a Nichirin Katana. Specifically named "Destroyer of Demons", the Blade is crafted with Scarlet Crimson Iron Sand and Scarlet Ore. Their main use is to kill Demons. But, not only that, but the Materials allow these weapons to Permanently kill Demons, ridding them from self resurrection.

Rengoku's Katana is made with a Crimson Color on the Blade and it is ideal for.......

Flame Breathing Techniques

Flame Breathing is a style that emphasizes, well, Fire. Breathing Techniques require "Total Concentration", and can be used to fit a certain combatant's fighting style. Rengoku emphasizes Fire for his attacks, thus, "Flame Breathing" is named.

The abilities that Rengoku has used with Flame Breathing are.....

First Form "Unknowing Fire": Rengoku charges at high speeds, using a singular slashing attack to decapitate his opponent with precision.

Second Form "Scorching Sun":  An Uppercut Slash

Third Form "Blazing Universe": A downward Slash (No, this is not a Universal Destroying technique XD!!!)

Fourth Form "Blooming Flame Undulation": Rengoku can swing around in a circular motion, perfect for defense against all incoming attacks from all directions but also for momentum strikes to attack his foes. Ideal for attacking multiple enemies at once

Fifth Form "Flame Tiger": Rengoku performs a badass series of slashes that take the form of a Tiger. At this point, I want Rengoku and Leone to be a couple :D!!!!!!

Comedy stuff aside, this Technique is powerful. Decimating Foes in one direction with a Series of Slashes is quite deadly. Ooooooooh :D

Ninth Form "Rengoku": Rengoku's Ultimate Form and his most powerful. He takes a High Stance and, when ready, dashes at high speeds with so much force, he creates a mini fissure in the ground and blitzes at high speeds. When he unleashes this technique, the technique takes the form of a Dragon that envelopes Rengoku as he charges towards his opponent.

Ninth Form in Action. That is "Blazing" XD!!!

Skills

Rengoku is a highly skilled Hashira, one of the most powerful and fastest of his time, Rengoku is a true powerhouse.

It is also worth noting that Rengoku has Super Senses, he is so keen, he was able to stop one of Enmu's Servant's from destroying his "Spiritual Core" while he was Sleeping. That's right, Rengoku can still attack while Sleeping!!!!!!!

Also of note, Rengoku's Senses, in terms of comparison's sake, are superior to the likes of Tanjiro, who can sniff out Demons from afar. Rengoku also has great knowledge of Combat Tactics and is well trained in Katana Combat.

Finally, Rengoku is a tactical fighter, able to pinpoint his enemies weaknesses as he fights on. Analytical, Strategic, Intuitive, Rengoku has the mindset to practically fight anyone at any time :D

Feats achieved by Rengoku

Rengoku is a major player in the Mugen Train Arc. Though it was one arc, bear in mind it contained noteworthy feats. Here they are.

  • Has officially, and cleanly, defeated Akaza. Yes, Akaza did escape but Rengoku did win the fight via Forfeit and Overpowering Akaza. It still counts as a victory.
  • Managed to saved Tanjiro and his friends from further harm during the Mugen Train Arc.
  • Helped Tanjiro and friends kill Enmu, who is Freddy Krueger's long lost brother.
  • Killed many Demons in the Past. He had to in order to be a Hashira :D!!!!
  • Voiced by Mark Whitten (English) and Satoshi Hino (Japanese)
  • As a character, Rengoku is one of the best of the Demon Slayer Series.
  • Gotta love Mugen Train, what a great movie :D!!!!
  • Finally heard his mother say "You did a Wonderful Job"

Weaknesses

While Rengoku is indeed a powerful Hashira, he is sadly, not very deep in terms of overall feats. While it is unfair to assume that Rengoku is almost featless, far from that, he only became a major player in just one Story Arc of Demon Slayer. Now granted, he is no George Hancock or Shirley Fenette, but in terms of Quantity, Rengoku is lacking.

Still, oh yes, that's it XD!!!! Granted Rengoku died at the very end of the Mugen Train Arc but he isn't weak at all. The whole point is that Rengoku just doesn't have a book worth of feats to dig out. Still, Rengoku will forever be remembered as one of the most charismatic and coolest characters of Demon Slayer, and from Anime/Manga in general :D!!!

Mirio Togata  (Spoilers)

Mirio Togata, also known as "Lemillion" is one of the supporting characters of the Superhero Anime/Manga Series, My Hero Academia.

As a child, Mirio almost drowned in a river, thankfully, he was rescued by a Pro Hero, which in turn, Inspired Mirio to become a Hero.

Young Mirio aspiring to become a Hero :D!!!!

What is actually really nice, Mirio's Father approved of his Son's Aspiration, though, the challenge is real since Mirio had one of the more difficult Quirks to master, which is "Permeation"

Mirio attempting to train up to master his Quirk "Permeation"

Despite the challenges, Mirio eventually overcame them with great results, and enrolled into U-A High School. During his time at U-A, Mirio became a mega superstar amongst his fellow students and teachers. Eventually, his cheerful personality and laid back style made him a strong contender for "One For All", which is held by then Pro Hero "All Might". However, as it turns out, a random, innocent Quirkless guy named Izuku Midoriya became the next host of One For All. Which in turn, took a twist.

This wasn't a competitive side of the story though, as Mirio eventually met Izuku Midoriya and became a good friend from the get go. Mirio was also mentored by Nighteye, who at one time, considered Mirio to be the true heir to One For All once All Might passes the torch.

At one point in time, Mirio participated in the Shie Hassaikai Arc, which is basically

  • Take out Overhaul, the Villain of the Arc
  • Rescue Cute little girl "Eri"

Obviously, both objectives were achieved and-

Wait, what?????

Oh........ Mirio lost his Quirk........ That sucks. Well, at least he fought on and.... Survived. "Sigh of Relief".

Unfortunately, during this event, Nighteye was assassinated, who, turned Mirio's happy chap personality into a balling waterfall :(

But, after a dramatic scene, Mirio eventually moved on (After one chapter XD!!!) And, despite losing his Quirk, was still smiling like nothing happened :D!!!! That's the Spirit.

Overtime, while spending more time with Eri for Protection purposes, Mirio finally got his Quirk Back :D!!!

Lemillion back in action!!!

Mirio, as of this blog, participated in more battles such as fighting Tomura Shigaraki's Cronies and of course, being a Hero to all :D!!!!

That is a general look at Mirio's Background, let's see what this happy chap can do :D!!!

Permeation Quirk

Permeation is one of the most powerful Quirks in My Hero Academia. You see, it allows Mirio to phase through all matter, thus, becoming "Intangible". However, it is worth noting that Permeation requires great concentration and the fact that Mirio has to react to anything he is either attacking or are about to attack him in order to trigger Permeation's Intangibility efficiently.

Still, Permeation comes with alot of benefits such as

  • Repelling to escape from the ground and jump back to the Surface

Yeeehawww!!!! Repelling from the Ground up :D

  • Cool Techniques, which also means.....

Permeation Combat Techniques

Using Permeation for Combat is a showstopper for any situation. You think Mirio is just a Happy Chap? Well, when he is serious, he packs a Serious Punch!!!! Here are the Combat Techniques used by Mirio

Blind Touch Eyeball Crush

A trickster styled technique that allows Mirio to first turn his arm intangible and give the illusion that he was about to poke at his opponent's Eyeball, when in actual fact, he distracted them, leaving them open to a Gut Punch :D!!!!

Phantom Menace

Using the Ejective Operatives of his Quirk (Repel). Mirio phases through the ground and, in a very cool twist can attack from all directions at high speeds. Mirio activates and deactivates Permeation to time his attacks precisely. Mirio's Velocity increases with each bounce from consecutive Surface Jumps :D!!!!

Physical Stats

Mirio is a powerhouse in terms of his own Physical Stats. Though not particularly a Strength Heavy Hero, he is still Superhumanly powerful with other Physical Stats like Speed. Here is a list of feats achieved by the Happy Chap.

Strength

  • Using his Repel Technique, Mirio's Punches can gain momentum behind his attacks, coupled by Phantom Menace, he is striking as hard as a car.
  • Broke Overhaul's Arm with a Punch
  • Incapacitated all of Class 1-A with a Punch, one at a time.

 Speed

  • Blitzed all of Class 1-A in a few minutes and wasn't touched at all. Denki Kaminari, one of the students, can use his "Electrification" Quirk to control Electrical currents, that go beyond Lightning Level Speeds
  • Managed to blitzed Overhaul's Cronies.
  • Combat Speed wise, Mirio, when using his Repel, goes at Faster than the Eye can track speeds. He goes faster once he uses Phantom Menace, reaching Mach Speeds.

Durability

  • Impaled by Overhaul's Spikes. Mirio kept going..... Badass!!!!!
  • Can be comparable to other heroes. Most of them survived Bakugo's Explosion Quirk, which can destroy a slab of concrete with a single, concentrated shot.

Skills

Mirio is a highly skilled Superhero. He is one of the most powerful Heroes of his time and, again, was considered to be a contender to be the next "One for All" Host.

Mirio is also very smart, he was able to plan with craftiness and style. He is also very tricky with his combat style, complimentary with Permeation. This makes Mirio very unpredictable in combat.

Finally, Mirio is known for his hilarious game play. He plays with his friends with stuff like this.

Hello there. Mirio would be ideal for Halloween Events XD!!!

Such a great character indeed :D!!! Love Mirio!!!

Feats for Lemillion

A charismatic and powerful hero, Mirio Togata literally is, one of the happiest and coolest characters of My Hero Academia. Here is a list of feats achieved by Lemillion

  • Has officially, and cleanly, rescued Eri. One of the cutest characters of all time.
  • Helped the Heroes defeat Overhaul and even some of Tomura's League of Villains hoodies XD!!!
  • Despite losing his Quirk for a moment, Mirio still became relevant to the Story as a fun, happy chap. You know, Mirio is strikingly similar to Mio Sakamoto from Strike Witches. Heck, their names are also similar XD!!!!
  • That Smile....... Hell yeah!!!!!
  • Voiced by Ricco Fajardo (English) and Tarusuko Shingaki (Japanese)
  • Is one of the best characters of My Hero Academia
  • if I had to be honest, Mirio could well have been, the perfect heir to One for All. He literally has all the qualities of All Might :D!!!!

 Weaknesses

While Mirio is indeed one of U-A High's Best heroes, he is after all, not invincible, despite his "Intangibility"

The most obvious and important factor to consider is that Permeation requires timing and concentration to pull off. This is not a problem for Mirio, until he is facing someone with superior Speeds, nullifiying Permeation's Properties completely and Mirio would just suffer damage as bad as a regular human.

Infact, Mirio is not that much more durable physically as a regular human to begin with. The Main jist of his Quirk solely leaves his physical durability to be desired. It also gets worse when Mirio's Attacks are generally just dirty styled attacks. This is cool, but a well trained combatant would simply counter act them with greater skill and reflexes which again, if they are quicker than Mirio, can beat his Permeation Quirk's Intangibility.

Sill, it goes without saying that Mirio Togata is a badass, Charismatic and amazing Hero :D!!!!! Who would not love Mirio? George Hancock? Well he is a failure hahahahhaha

Mirio is all round, phenomenal :)

Summary

Kyojuro Rengoku

Advantages

  • Holds the Stats Edge by a wide margin
  • Is much better skilled than Mirio
  • Despite Permeation, Rengoku can counter it's capabilities with his Speed and, his "200 tons" Force Capabilities
  • Has deadlier strikes

  • Flame Breathing is simply alot easier to pull off than Permeation's Concentration techniques.
  • Mugen Train>>>>>> All My Hero Academia Movies

Disadvantages

  • Permeation is a hindrance
  • Is not as tricky as Mirio
  • Not quite as Happy as Mirio consistently
  • Is Dead....... ooof.

Mirio Togata

Advantages

  • Permeation is Mirio's Pride and Joy against Rengoku
  • A trickster vs A Fighter. Quite a difference in styles but it favors Mirio in terms of surprises and unpredictability
  • Is the Happier Chap
  • Mirio is still alive and Kicking :D!!!!

Disadvantages

  • Inferior in the Stats Trinity
  • Isn't as skilled as Rengoku
  • I mean, Permeation is great. Okay, how about Rengoku's Dashing Speed that is packed with 200 tons worth of Force wherever he passes by.......... Countered in terms of both Speed and Power
  • His attacks are not as deadly as Rengoku's
  • Permeation simply is alot harder to control compared to Flame Breathing.
  • I mean, the MHA movies are great but Mugen Train is far better than all of them combined

The Verdict

In a rather competitive match up, Rengoku vs Mirio is actually quite a battle to behold. Here is a look at both amazing characters in terms of the overall outcome.

Stats wise, Unfortunately, this is not really close. Yes, Mirio is Superhuman, but, if we are gonna compare someone who literally can Dash with 200 tons worth of Force each time he passes by, yeah, Mirio cannot compare in terms of Speed and Power.

Strength wise, Rengoku is able to stalemate Akaza, who is one of the absolute strongest Demons in Demon Slayer, this is a guy who is able to hold down a Demon that is capable of creating fissures in the ground that is literally a "Earthquake". Mirio on the other hand is just as Strong as a human..... But, the scope of his Strength is "Peak Human" at best. This is like comparing A Superhuman to a Athlete. The Strength Gap is just too much. Breaking arms sounds fun, but Stalemating a Strong Demon is more than enough to cement the Strength edge for Rengoku.

Back to Speed, Ohhh boy, the most overlooked factor of this match up that people ignore. Rengoku is MUCH!!!!! Faster. The guy literally travelled across the Mugen Train in a few seconds, which already puts him well above Mirio's Travel Speed. Now, Phantom Menace helps, but that is more situational and requires a ceiling and two walls to pull off effectively. This is not a problem, if not for the fact that Rengoku is already much faster, has the reflexes to react to Mirio's attacks since he is able to attack Akaza, who is also above Lightning level in terms of Speed.

Rengoku simply has all the important Stats to counter Mirio's own stats, but what about Durability?

Hah, you would think that I didn't mention Rengoku's Durability that much on his rundown, Mirio had the edge because I did mention Mirio's Impalement feat right? Well, Rengoku scales to characters who were smashed against buildings and survive..... Mirio is just as durable as a Regular Human..... A simply sentence like that speaks the difference. Oh, And Rengoku is just as resilient as Mirio. After all, the guy had his Stomach punctured and kept fighting.

Really, Stats is a wrap in favor of Rengoku, what about the Abilities? Well, Unfortunately, Rengoku has the edge also

Permeation is handy for Mirio, but it requires much greater concentration and focus compared to Flame Breathing Techniques. Added that Rengoku also has more techniques to work with, he is simply more versatile and more dangerous, which also means, Rengoku has deadlier combos. We have A Katana vs Fist Strikes...... What happens if you slice someone's arms off? Yeah. That's devastating.

Ultimately, Mirio is just outmatched both in Stats and Abilities. The real deal for him is Permeation, but we already established that Mirio has to first react to Rengoku's Attacks in order to activate Permeation, which he just can't since Rengoku is already too fast and would decapitate Mirio the moment the fight even started.

Skill is still not really close, Rengoku is a Well Trained Hashira while Mirio is more of a Skilled Superhero who isn't that skilled in deadly combat. He is good at fighting, but compared to Rengoku, his combat style is more about using his Quirk to overpower his foes, and yet Rengoku already counters it with superior Speed and Reflexes alone.

So, thanks to, pretty much all categories, I Believe that Rengoku has what it takes to "Smile and Make his Mother Proud once more". Mirio is still an amazing character, but he is no "Hashira with a Heroic Smile"....... XD!!!!!

The Winner is Kyojuro Rengoku
