Greetings and Welcome to the Season 5 Semi Final of my Who Would Win Series and it is going to be a clash between two super intelligent characters with tremendous firepower :D!!!
Gordon Freeman from Half-Life vs Isaac Clarke from Dead Space, a monumental match up that is hotly debated for years will finally reach a decisive end.
Gordon's Info is going to be directly from the games Half-Life and Half-Life 2. Isaac on the other hand will have his info directly from his previous match up "James Raynor vs Isaac Clarke" since, as of this blog, his info has not been updated at all :D!!!! (Saves so much time XD!!!)
This match up is going to be very straight forward since the characters themselves are all about "Experiencing events" than Raw Stats. However, as usual, I will go into the Stats, Weapons, Armor, Skills, Abilities Feats and Weaknesses and, once again, finally settle the debate on "Who is the more powerful Genius".
So, without further ado, let's begin.
Gordon Freeman
Canon Wise, Gordon did take the job, and then two decades later, Gordon was awoken from Stasis and was taken to City 17, which also happens to have the "Combine" taking control of the entire population.
Gordon was eventually seen once against and was in a cat and mouse chase, eventually, he was rescued by Video Games' best Sidekick Girl Alyx Vance, who also took Gordon to see Dr Kleiner and her Father Eli. All this made Gordon a revolutionary against the Combine and, of course, Gordon and his comrades eventually prevailed for the most part...... Of course, G-Man eventually saw Gordon once more and, one again, puts Gordon in Stasis and, well, things get funny. Let me sum it up in a very quick rundown
- Gordon and Alyx were rescued by Vortigaunts
- Gordon and Alyx are then thrown across a chasm and into the Citadel Tower by Robot Companion "Dog"
- Gordon saves Alyx from dying by allowing Vortigaunts to use their mojo magic on her for healing purposes
- Gordon then fights a battle against Striders, who reminds me of the 2005 War of the Worlds Walkers.
- Gordon became more heroic overtime :D!!!!
That is a very entertaining and simple background of Gordon Freeman. Now, let's see what this super intelligent badass is capable of.
Physical Capabilities
Gordon Freeman is by all accounts and purposes, a human being. But, this guy does have a couple of interesting feats that do make him way above Human Level in terms of Strength, Speed and Durability.
Strength
- Can move around large objects such as Steel Containers and Wooden Boxes
- Can wield his crowbar with such force, Gordon can break through Armor and cause deep dents on Walls
- Able to dodge gunfire while running
- Avoided Electrical Currents from Environmental Hazards
- Using Auxiliary Power with his Hazard Environment Suit, Gordon can run as fast as an Olympic Level Athlete for a brief period of time
- Can avoid Beam attacks from Striders and Xen Aliens
Durability
- Relatively the same as a Human, though Gordon can take Bullets and keep going
- With Battery Power within his HEV Suit, Gordon can take far more punishment before it is depleted.
- Took a Zombie's slash attack, which is powerful enough to break through solid concrete
- Can survive explosions to the face
- Can Survive at least 15 ft deep drops before losing health
Hazardous EnVironment Suit
The Hazardous EnViroment Suit, better known as the HEV Suit, is Gordon's Primary suit for both Combat and exploration. The Suit has built in technology that can increase the wearer's physical capabilities and survivability to greater heights. It can also be outfitted with multiple add ons to increase it's versatility such as
- Long Jump Module for Longer Jumping Distance
- Battery Armor for Increased Durability
- Auxiliary Power for Breath Control Underwater, Flashlight Battery and Increased Movement Speed
- Morphine Injection System to prevent severe blood loss and relieves pain
Of course, like all great characters in video games, Gordon has a variety of Weapons used for Combat and even Puzzle Solving. Here are the weapons used by the Scientific Powerhouse
The Crowbar: Gordon Freeman's most iconic weapon, The Crowbar is surprisingly powerful despite it's simple design. Gordon can wield it with such force, it can crush through armor and wooden boxes easily. It is also ideal for picking up ammo from crates without the expense of firing ammo :D!!!

Grenades: Gordon can use Grenades to deliver explosive results by simply thrown them. Simple, effective and packs serious firepower :D!!!

Bug bait: Not necessarily a weapon, but very useful nonetheless, Bug Bait is used to attract Antlions to help Gordon fight his enemies, giving him a numeric advantage. The Antlions do not attack Gordon while the bait is triggered. Infact, they permanently become his allies until they die, or when Gordon is out of sight.

Crossbow: One of the most powerful weapons in Half-Life, the Crossbow is a single shot but very powerful weapon, ideal for sniping. While powerful, it is very slow and requires great concentration and accuracy to pull it off effectively. Still, it is a powerful addition to Gordon's Arsenal

Hopper Mines: A very powerful explosive, Hopper Mines are very useful when laying traps against enemies. When in close proximity, the Mines themselves trigger a mechanism that will force them into the air and surprise the victim with an in your face explosion, dealing very high levels of damage.

Magnum: The Colt Python, or the .357 Magnum Pistol, is the Grim Reaper of Gordon's Enemies. The most powerful Handgun in the world, The Colt is able to fire 6 rounds of powerful .357 bullets that can one shot most enemies with devastating power. The only real downside is that ammo is scarce but, then again, who needs ammo if your great at aiming ;)

Sentry Guns: Not actually one of Gordon's Standard Equipment, The Sentry Guns are still worth mentioning. They are automatic fire turrets that have a built in sensor system that fires at enemies. Very effective for choke points and defense, they are ideal for a nice moment of rest and recuperation.

RPG: The Rocket Propelled Grenade, simply known as the RPG, fires a Rocket with a very surprising twist. You see, unlike your typical Rocket Launcher, Gordon's RPG has a built in Targeting System that allows it to track down it's target when fully locked on. However, that's not all, it too has a Remote Control System that, when it misses the first time, Gordon can simply redirect the rocket back and finally hit his target once again.
Like a Remote Control Car...... Only this time it can be dangerous....... How scary is that?

Hivehand: One of Gordon's Strangest Weapons, the Hivehand is actually an Organic Weapon that has very interesting tricks. It fires a Swarm of Hornets at the intended target and generally, they seek out enemies and attack them at once. What is bizarre though, the secondary function fires all of the Hornet Swarms at once at the cost of not being able to track down targets. It's especially effective against Non Regenerative foes.

Tau Cannon: The Tau Cannon is a highly advanced weapon that fires Uranium in a Singular beam that can kill enemies in a matter of seconds. It's Secondary Function allows it to be charged up to unleash an even more powerful blast. However, if charged for longer than 10 Seconds, the Cannon will explode and deliver damage to the user. That said, The Cannon remains functional....... What a very interesting Gun XD!!!!

Gluon Gun: One of Gordon's Most powerful weapons, The Gluon Gun fires a continuous beam blast that ignores Armor and can kill foes so quickly, they simply do not know what happened before they are exploded. It's Armor Piercing potential is ideal against extremely durable foes. But the real downside is that Ammo is super rare, so Gordon has to use this weapon conservatively

Snarks: Gordon can use Snarks, living Seeker mines that track down enemies and are surprisingly more mobile than the Hopper Mines. Because of this, they are exceptionally effective for a numeric advantage for Gordon in a 1v1 fight and Snarks do deliver pretty good damage on their own. In a group though, they are basically piranhas with extreme levels of danger and ferocity.

And now...... Gordon's Best Weapon.....
The Gravity Gun
The most powerful weapon in Gordon's Arsenal, the "Zero Point Energy Field Manipulator", better known as the Gravity Gun is also the most versatile. It is able to lift objects that are otherwise too heavy for Gordon to carry, and, can even use them to crush enemies. The Standard Gravity Gun does not have a built in Fire System to attack enemies directly, but, there is one more thing to consider, you see, it can also manipulate Dark Matter, which is the same type that the Overwatch Energy Balls are made of to disintegrate opponents.
Despite this, the Gravity Gun is actually basic compared to.........
SUPER GRAVITY GUN!!!!!!!!
Yes, the Gravity Gun Suddenly becomes even more powerful. A Bluish Color, which is pretty badass, the Super Gravity Gun can now be fired directly at foes and, believe it or not, it unleashes Dark Matter that, again, can disintegrate enemies with one hit. Because of this, it is Gordon's Real Pride and Joy against anyone he is up against, making it one of the most powerful weapons in fiction. Kenshiro would be proud..... Very Proud :D!!!!!!
Oh, and the Super Gravity Gun can now control organic matter, meaning, humans are now going to be manipulated just like any object....... This also kills them instantly........ Oh boy this is an overpowered weapon XD!!!!

Skills
Gordon Freeman is, by all means of logic, one of the smartest characters in all of fiction. He has a PhD in Theoretical Physics and is surprisingly very good at combat. And I thought Charlotte E. Yeager is badass, Gordon might be her future husband!!!!
Of course, Gordon is a very athletic human being since he can traverse across chasms and run as fast as an Olympic Level Athlete. It is also worth noting that Gordon is crafty, using the Gravity Gun to manipulate Objects to attack foes and even use the Primary Fire Function to push away debris. Very clever :D!!!!
Feats for Gordon Freeman
As one of Gaming's most iconic characters, Gordon Freeman does have alot of feats that make him a very badass individual :D!!!! Here is a rundown of Gordon's impressive resume
- Has officially, and cleanly, defeated the Nihilanth, the leader of the Xen Invaders
- Dismantled the Combine's Control of City 17
- Survived Black Mesa
- Killed the Tentacle Monster
- Single handily stopped an Alien Invasion.... Twice
- Has Alyx Vance as his companion, who is one of the most helpful characters in gaming :D!!!!!
- Killed numerous Zombies, Headcrabs, Aliens, Combine Soldiers with only simplistic and complex weaponry
- Survived Ravenholm because, well, Ravenholm.......
- Defeated a Combine Chopper
- Half Life Series is a Masterpiece :D!!!!
- Is one of my favorite video game protagonists ever :)
- Can crush Slashers with his punches. Slashers are strong enough to pry through elevator doors and ventilation grates.
- Can break out of a Slasher grab and decapitate it.
- Can throw down and kick a Lurker. Lurkers are very tough Necromorphs that can tank blasts from Isaac's Plasma cutter.
- Can break away from a Divider's grasp
- Managed to open a falling excavator door using his shoulder
- Stomps on corpses and Necromorphs with such strength, they are literally crushed into small pieces.
- Overpowered Stross and eventually jammed a screwdriver through his head.
- Tackled Danik.
Isaac is a very fast combatant. While not exactly a speedy type, Isaac has a couple of speed feats that are impressive for human standards. Here is a list of his speed feats.
- While in vacuum, Isaac can jump from one area to another very quickly.
- Isaac can outrun necromorphs, who are faster than humans in terms of travel speed.
- Dodged a point blank Javelin Shot
- Avoided a falling train.
- His suit thrusters can catch up to a speeding train.
- Avoided gunfire
- Can combat roll while wearing his armor.
- Rappelled alongside a cliff and avoided falling rocks while climbing.
- Can disarm his opponents before they could pull the trigger of their weapons
Durability
Isaac is tough, very, very tough. He has endured countless situations and encounters that would otherwise destroy a human being. Here are Isaac's amazing feats for his durability.
- Can tank hits from Slashers
- Tank hits from Large Necromorphs. Large Necromorphs are powerful enough to destroy blast doors and even bullet proof glass.
- Was impaled in the shoulder and his hands by a Javelin Gun. Isaac not only survived, he pulled out the javelins from his wounds with minor difficulty and continued to fight.
- Stood infront of a thermite explosion that can melt through metal.
- Was grabbed by the Hive Mind. A Necromorph the size of a mountain. Isaac was swung around and fell to the ground with such force, it would have killed him. Isaac survived and continued fighting
- Was sucked inside a huge Necromorph and yet Isaac still survived after it spat him out.
- His Armor is resistant to a Puker's corrosive bile. Puker's bile can melt through steel.
- Smashed into a ship, broke 4 metal grates and crashed into the floor. Isaac did not lose any health afterwards.
- Got smacked down a mountain by a large Necromorph, tumbling down in the process.
Weaponry
Isaac is a Swiss army knife in terms of weaponry. For the sake of this blog, I will include his most frequently used weapons. It is also worth noting that all of Isaac's weapons have an alternate fire mode that gives them superb versatility. Also, believe it or not, most of Isaac's weapons are actually engineer tools. Here is the list of Isaac's weapons/tools.
211-V Plasma Cutter: The signature tool of Isaac Clarke. The 211-V Plasma Cutter is a handheld tool used for cutting mining operations and for maintenance. In the case of combat purposes, the Plasma Cutter is used to dismember Necromorphs and even humans.
It has an alternate fire mode that allows the Plasma Cutter to switch from a vertical to horizontal mode. The Plasma Cutter fires very accurate bolts of ionized plasma energy, which, on impact, delivers serious damage.
It is also worth noting that Isaac eventually used another version of the Plasma Cutter known as the Makeshi Plasma Cutter, which is virtually the same tool as the 211-V Plasma Cutter aside from the added covers while it is deactivated. It was also used for Medical Surgeries.
SWS Motorized Pulse Rifle: The Pulse Rifle is a military grade three barreled assault rifle with an extremely fast fire rate and a large magazine ammo capacity. It fires low caliber rounds that travel in hypersonic speeds. While the rounds themselves do deal damage, it is the fire rate that makes the weapon even deadlier.
The Alternate fire mode for the Pulse Rifle is that it can be mounted to the ground and be used as a turret that fires around Isaac's position in a 360 degree arc.
C99 SuperCollider Contact Beam: The Contact beam is a heavy engineering tool designed to pound and soften raw, hard minerals into smaller pieces for more practical use. The Contact Beam is very unique that it uses kinetic force to fire it's projectiles. While the tool has a slow fire rate, a charge up time in order to fire the projectile, and a relatively low ammunition capacity, the damage output it delivers more than makes up for it's drawback.
The Contact Beam is so powerful that a single shot can destroy a Necromorph into pieces.
The Alternate Fire mode for the Contact Beam allows it to release a small radial ground based shock wave that can deliver devastating results to Necromorphs.
Handheld Graviton Accelerator/Force Gun
The Force Gun is one of the most powerful devices used by Isaac. Designed for mining operations by providing blasting power beyond conventional explosive charges, the Force Gun is used for precise terraforming applications. It was also used to blast through rocks and debris during mining operations into smaller pieces and even deflect wayward rocks while in space operations.
It fires a kinetic force that is so powerful that Necromorph limbs are severed. It is also can be used to push back large objects towards Necromorphs. Basically, this is a shotgun without shells.......
The Alternate fire mode for the Force Gun is different in two games. Firstly, it fired a grenade that, on impact, created a large blast radius that, when fully upgraded, will decimate Necromorphs within the blast radius. Secondly, the newer fire mode creates a narrow beam which is used to cut through multiple necromorphs. It uses only one round of ammunition.
IM-822 Handheld Ore Cutter Line Gun
The Line Gun is very similar to the Plasma Cutter except that it is much larger with a wider beam arc for it's projectiles. The Line Gun can fire Plasma beams in a horizontal line, delivering deadly results to Necromorphs.
It's alternate fire mode is a timed Mine. When detonated, the mine explodes and creates a display of lasers, cutting through everything it comes in contact with.
PFM-100 Hydrazine Torch Flamethrower
The Flamthrower is a tool used by miners for extraction of minerals and ores. It was later repurposed as a practical weapon used during the Aegis V11 and Titan Station outbreaks.
The Flamethrower unfortunately has a very low damage output. However, when fully upgraded, the Flamthrower eventually packs a punch. It can be used to immolate large numbers of Necromorphs and is especially effective against smaller types of Necromorphs.
The Alternate Fire Mode for the Flamethrower is different in Dead Space 1 and 2.
In the First game, it unleashed a fireball that explodes on contact. Originally an Orange flame, should Isaac upgrade the Flamthrower, the fire changes into a blue, which is hotter than orange and yellow fire.
In the second game, it fires a lit canister and detonates on its own or immediately after it makes contact with a Necromorph.
RC-DS Remote Control Disc Ripper
The Ripper is designed to hack through rocks into smaller pieces during mining operations. However, the tool alone is a very dangerous device to use. Infact, in the hands of less skilled miners and engineers, using the Ripper is an accident waiting to happen.
The Ripper fires a remote controlled sawblade that is then held by a gravity tether. When used, it can hack Necromorphs into smaller pieces very quickly, making it a very effective weapon for dismemberment.
The Alternate Fire mode for the Ripper is that is fires the blade without the gravity tether in place. The sawblade is then fired with such force, it can cleave through multiple Necromorphs. Thus, this makes the tool a very versatile asset for Isaac to use.
Javelin Gun: The Javelin Gun is a weapon that fires... well, Javelins.
The Gun fires titanium spikes which are fired with tremendous accuracy and speed and can even pierce through steel and pin necromorphs to walls.
The Alternate fire mode for the Javelin Gun is that it electrifies the titanium spike which can deal electrical damage to a group of Necromorphs and Isaac if he gets too close to the spike. When fully upgraded, the spike will unleash a shockwave after the electrical effects wear out.
Seeker Rifle: The Seeker Rifle is basically a Sniper Rifle. It's used for long ranged combat that gives Isaac supreme ranged capabilities. Its secondary fire mode is an enhanced zoom, giving it more precision and range.
711-MarkCL Rivet Gun: The Rivet Gun is the latest answer to fire as fast as you can pull the trigger hardware by Timson Tools. It is designed for temporary patch jobs and hull repairs.
The Rivet Gun fires rivets that are capable of pinning Necromorphs to walls, giving Isaac more opportunities to dismember them even further. The term "Fires as fast as you can pull the trigger" sums up the tools function. The Rivets themselves pack a punch in combat.
The alternate fire mode for the Rivet Gun is different in the games. Firstly, it initially fired 5 rivets at once, even more, it can ricochet from walls and deliver unpredictable damage to Necromorphs and even Isaac if he is not careful.
The newer alternate fire mode discharges all rivets instead of just five. Making it more powerful.
Customized Weapons
In Dead Space 3. Isaac eventually created weapons with different combinations. These range from Pistols with a shotgun function, assault rifles with a sawblade alternate fire mode and even shotguns with automatic fire capabilities.
- Stasis Ammo: delivers Damage but slows down enemies at the same time.
- Acid Ammo: Melts down Necromorphs to the atomic level.
- Fire Ammo: Burns Enemies to a Crisp with a few shots
- Electrical Ammo: Fires electrical projectiles that can stun foes and deal damage at once.
Abilities/Hax
Aside from Weapons, Isaac is also very versatile with abilities. He has two main abilities that provide hax and even help him out with environmental hazards. The two abilities Isaac has are.
Stasis: Isaac is armed with a Stasis Module. The Stasis Module allows Isaac to create a stasis field to whoever he aims at. When in contact, the stasis field puts the object, or a nercromorph, into a time dilation, giving Isaac more time for options. It is a very, very powerful ability for any situation. Infact, the stasis module can be used while in the vacuum of space, and even slow down Leapers, who are necromorphs that can leap at great distances very quickly.
Kinesis: Kinesis is a very powerful ability. It allows Isaac to manipulate objects at will and even help Isaac solve puzzles, repairs, recharging power to certain areas and even use kinesis to shoot out sharp objects and necromorph limbs for damage. It can even manipulate explosive canisters to deliver explosive results. Oh, and even stasis canisters exist as well XD!!!!!
Skills
Being an Engineer, Isaac is very knowledgeable with equipment and tools. And also, Isaac is an expert at fire arms and has grown his skills overtime in Dead Space. It is also worth noting that Isaac is very resourceful in any situation that is thrown at him. And he is also very efficient in melee combat. What's more, Isaac is also a skilled hacker. Oh, and Isaac is a master of dismemberment......... Awesome!!!
Feats for Isaac Clarke
In order to finish Isaac Clarke's info, we must look at his accomplishments first. Here are Isaac's amazing feats.
- Survived the Ishimura incident
- Has survived the Sprawl Outbreak
- Has survived the Tau Violantis Outbreak
- Defeated Necromorphs so many times that he doesn't fear them anymore.
- Defeated the Hunter. A Necromorph that is incapable of death from conventional combat.
- Defeated the Hive Mind
- Killed Nicole, which broke Isaac's connection to his hallucinations.
- Destroyed the Markers
- Defeated the Brethren Moon............. Isaac Clarke killed a moon sized Necromorph............ That is the most badass feat ever done in a science fiction based game.
While Isaac is a very strong combatant and a very resourceful one at that, unfortunately, he is just a human. Infact, he is easily killed by sufficient force, and he can be one shotted by Necromorphs with a killing blow. What is worse, Isaac's weapons run on ammunition. If he runs out of ammo, he will have to resort to his melee attacks or outright run away from his enemies to fight another time.
It also doesn't help that Isaac's Stasis Module runs on a set amount. Should Stasis be overused and become depleted, Isaac cannot use Stasis anymore unless he either goes to a Stasis recharge station or by picking up more stasis packs.
Also, while in the vacuum of space. Isaac runs on oxygen air cans. If the air cans run out, Isaac will suffocate to death.
And finally, Isaac's RIG, while very durable, is very susceptible to damage overtime. If Isaac's health meter is depleted, Isaac will die.
Still, Isaac Clarke is a badass. What is cool about Isaac is that he has accomplished feats that involve nightmarish situations and impossible odds stacked against him..... Isaac achieved the impossible and should be remembered as a hero who is not even a soldier........
- Is slightly more Intelligent than Isaac since he has a PhD in Theoretical Physics
- Arguably more resourceful thanks to his use of the Gravity Gun manipulating Objects vs Isaac's Kinesis Module, which functions the same way.
- Dark Energy does allow Gordon to have more One Hit Options than Isaac, which is pretty huge considering that Isaac is not that much more durable than the foes Gordon has faced.
- His Gluon Gun can bypass Isaac's Armor entirely and kill him instantly.
- Super Gravity Gun.............. That alone cements Gordon's Victory.......
Disadvantages
- ......... but then again, Stasis is the showstopper
- Outright inferior in terms of physical stats
- Far less advanced Tech than Isaac
- Cannot exactly do much if Isaac can simply use Stasis Ammo with his weapons to slow down Gordon to the point he is a statue
- Isaac has fought a far more impressive Rogue Gallery than what Gordon ever experienced and defeated. I mean, A Moon Sized Boss vs a Giant Foetus....... I do not see a comparison
- Isaac's Rig Is more advanced and more useful than Gordon's HEV Suit in all categories. Oh, and a built in propulsion system for flight does widen the Tech Gap even further
Isaac Clarke
Advantages
- Better Physical Stats
- More Advanced Technology
- Can pretty much nullify all of Gordon's Chances with Stasis alone
- More Impressive Rogue Gallery. A Brethren Moon is capable of destroying all of Half-Life's Enemies to a crisp......
- Isaac's Rig Suit is simply more advanced and useful than Gordon's HEV suit.
- Is not quite as smart as Gordon since Isaac's field of Engineering is not as impressive as Gordon's PhD level with Theoretical Physics
- Gordon's Gravity Gun does prolong the fight and it ultimately does help Gordon save himself from Isaac's overwhelming power and tech for a while
- Dark Energy is something Isaac has zero counter against if he gets hit by the Energy Balls
- If Gordon manages to pull out the Super Gravity Gun out of nowhere and catch Isaac, the fight is over in favor of Gordon.
- Isaac will not survive the Gluon Cannon's Blast since it can penetrate Armor entirely and turn Isaac into a red mist
In what has to be the most hotly debated match up of my series to date, Gordon vs Isaac is a very exciting and very interesting match up!!!!!!! While both sides do bring alot of factors to the table, and both certainly can win in specific circumstances, ultimately, there is only one winner...... But, let's break it down first
