Season 3: Altered Beast (Altered Beast) vs Kid Chameleon (Kid Chameleon)

Greetings and Welcome to another episode of my "Who Would Win" Series and it is going to be the Altered Beast from "Altered Beast" vs Kid Chameleon from "Kid Chameleon" (Seriously, I love pitting characters having the same name as the title of their games XD!!!)

For the Altered Beast, I will use only the first two games as a source of info for his capabilities, as they are the only games in the series that were easier to research thanks to a close friend of mine (Who I will thank even more later on).

Of course, The Beasts' info has an interesting twist, you see, I decided to composite both Altered Beast and Altered Beast Guardian of the Realms together to give him the best power level he can possibly get.

As for Kid Chameleon, well, his info is going to be solely on his game only. While Kid Chameleon did have a comic book line back in the day, unfortunately, I have never quite got the chance to read them at all. However, that said, I still have a huge chunk of info for the Kid since I completed Kid Chameleon twice, which is still good enough :D!!!!!

This match up will be focusing on the base form stats, the transformation forms for both sides, weapons, abilities, feats, weaknesses and finally, who I personally believe will win this battle of Sega Heroes

So, without further ado, let's begin

The Altered Beast

The Centurion from the Original Altered Beast

The Backstory for The Altered Beast is pretty straight forward. He was once a Centurion who was killed in battle, only to be revived by the God Zeus in order to rescue his daughter Athena from the Demon god known as Neff.

In a time span of at least 1 hour of gameplay (Yes, this is real XD!!!), The Centurion finally rescued Athena, and was appreciated by Zeus for his achievement.

That said, in the Altered Beast Guardian of the Realms Game, once again, Zeus revived a fallen warrior known as a "Guardian". This time, the Guardian was tasked to defeat Arcanon, who had stolen the realm keys and took over the Hall of Realms. Thankfully, the Guardian managed to beat Arcanon's plans of world domination.

This is the backstory of the first two games of Altered Beast. Now, let's see what this hero is capable of.

Base Forms/Transformation

From Left to Right, The Three Base forms of the Hero

The Hero in Altered Beast has three Base Forms, each with different levels of power. In order to trigger the transformation, the Hero must collect Spirit Balls from a two headed Blue Wolf (White in the arcade version). Should the hero get a fourth Spirit Ball however this happens

Yes, the Hero becomes a mythical beast. The Transformation process varies between levels of the games, though the process is simple. Once the Hero becomes the Beast, he is granted some powerful abilities.

So now we know how the Hero's power levels progress. Let's see the stats first.

Strength
The Hero is a very strong combatant, even before the transformation, the Hero's Base form actually has quite alot of force behind his attacks. Here is a handful of Strength Feats for the Hero.

  • Can smash through Marble Pillars
  • Has destroyed monstrous bugs with his bare hands and feet, this is pretty good because the carapace of these bugs are as thick as armor
  • Can smash a dragon's head off with just a punch
  • Is able to punch and kick multiple enemies at once in a row
  • In his transformation stages, The Hero has different Strength levels. His melee based transformations are powerful enough to smash through Gods and outer shells of Giant Monsters.

Speed
The Speed of the Hero varies from form to form. Unfortunately, his base forms are left to be desired, though scientific elements can help out here. Here is a list of Speed feats for the Hero

  • Is able to dodge lightning attacks from both the ground and Air. Making his reflexes pretty impressive
  • Can dodge charging two headed wolves on a regular basis.
  • Is quick enough to stop any enemy coming at him with his attacks. Some of them are able to pounce at quick speeds.
  • Can dodge Fireballs, Huge heads and Beam attacks.
  • His Transformation Stages grant the Hero a substantial Speed Boost. Some of them enable him to fly at high speeds.

Durability
The Hero's Durability is very interesting. Here is a list of durability feats for the Hero.

  • Can tank fireballs, lightning and acidic attacks
  • Could take sword strikes from undead minions and warriors
  • Can survive powerful charge attacks
  • His transformation stages actually do not change Durability Levels at all. For this reason alone, the only Stat that doesn't change when the Hero transforms is Durability

The Many Transformations of the Altered Beast

The Original Altered Beast Transformations

The Transformation Forms of the Altered Beast vary from level to level (as said before). However, all of them have a variety of abilities that make them very versatile. Here is a list of the Forms and their abilities

Werewolf
Werewolf: This forms gives the Hero the ability to project energy balls using his hands and feet for long range combat. It also allows the Hero to use a Dash attack, sweeping across enemies with devastating power

Dragon
Dragon: This form turns the Hero into a badass Dragon that gives Smaug a run for it's money. This form can breath lightning from it's mouth and emit an electrical discharge from it's body that deals massive amounts of damage. This ability actually gives the Hero a very high level of defense also :D!!!

The Dragon using an Electrical Discharge

Werebear

Werebear: This form allows the Hero to turn into a Werebear. It grants him the ability to breathe a petrifying breath that deals decent damage and has a spin attack.

Weretiger
Weretiger: The Weretiger has almost the same capabilities as the Werewolf, though this time, this form fires out projectiles  that flow towards his enemies in a serpentine direction. The Weretiger also uses a dash attack that targets both the air and ground in a vertical angle.

Gold Werewolf
Gold Werewolf: Pretty much the exact same form as the Werewolf except it is gold and it is more powerful XD!!!!

Guardian of the Realms Transformations

Guardians of the Realms Beast Transformations

Of course, there are more forms for the Hero to transform in the sequel. Though yes, it is a different hero but for the sake of composition and generalization, we will include these forms anyway. What needs to be addressed is that these forms now have different types that only change the color. Thus, if you want to give your beast a makeover, there are four options to choose from XD!!!!!

This section will primarily focus on the capabilities of each form

Here is a list of the Transformations that the Hero has in the Guardian of the Realms Game.

Canis: This form is virtually identical to the Werewolf, it's abilities are also the same, as it can project fireballs and uses a dash attack.

Nagi: This form turns the Hero into a snake like creature. It can spit acid for long range and has a rolling dash that crushes enemies in it's path

Draco "Dragon Man": This form is identical to the Dragon form in the original game. It can spit lightning bolts from it's mouth and unleash an electrical discharge from it's body.

Smilodon: This form allows the Hero to transform into one of the coolest prehistoric animals ever.... A Saber-tooth Tiger. It can shoot out fireballs using it's claws and feet for long range attacks and has a vertical dash that is consumed in Fire.

Terapis: This form allows the Hero to transform into a humanoid turtle. It can create shock wave blasts using it's mouth and has a rolling dash.

Charodon: This form allows the Hero to transform into a monstrous humanoid shark. This is also his most unique form because it is the only form that allows the Hero to swim freely in water. His abilities with Charodon are a blast attack and a rolling dash.

Cerathos: This form allows the Hero to transform into a rhinoceros. It can create shock waves and has a charge attack that is so powerful, it can knock back giant sized monsters.

Avion: The Hero transforms into a Humanoid Eagle. This time, it allows him to fly freely. With this form, The Hero can create short range tornadoes and has a spinning beam attack

Scorpios: This form transforms the Hero into a Scorpion. It can use it's claws for attacks (Obviously XD!!!!) and also has a downward laser beam attack with it's tail

Chimera: The Ultimate form of Altered Beast, this form gives the hero the ability to emit a sound blast attack, and it's attack power is vastly superior to all previous forms.

Power Ups in Guardian of the Realms
Unfortunately, the original Altered Beast has no pick ups aside from Spirit Balls. Thankfully, the sequel has a list of power ups that help him in a long drawn fight. Here is a full list of pick ups for the Hero to have

Adrenaline: Increases Speed for a short time

Ambrosia: Fully heals the Hero

Armageddon: Damages all enemies in the screen

Berserk  The Guardian becomes red for a while

Determination Temporary invincibility.

Earthquake  Damages all enemies present in the screen.

Extra Life  Grants an extra life.

Innerfire  Releases small fireballs for a brief time.

Regenerate  Slowly recovers health for a short time.

Shockwave Releases a shockwave to the left and right to attack enemies.

Venom Attacks become poisonous and stronger for a short time.

Zander's Shield  Creates a shield that temporarily protects the Guardian by harming enemies that touch it.

Skills

The Hero, even from both games, is a skilled fighter. Using brawling attacks for close range, the Hero is quite a powerhouse. However, it is with his transformations that the Hero becomes a badass. All transformations do have close range attacks. Some are better at close range than other forms. Whereas on the flip side, other forms are much faster and much better for long range combat. With all this considered, the Hero can adapt to anything thrown at him.

Feats and Accomplishments

The Hero has achieved quite a few accomplishments. Here is a list of feats by the Hero.

  • Has officially, and cleanly, defeated Neff and rescued Athena
  • Has defeated Acranon, saving the Realms from his grasp
  • Took down multiple monsters on his own, no help required at all :D!!!!
  • Altered Beast became the standard pre packaged game for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive before a certain blue Hedgehog took over

Weaknesses

Unfortunately, the Hero in Altered Beast and The Guardian of the Realms.... IS EXTREMELY FRAGILE!!!! What is worse, the Hero has to rely on his power ups in order to achieve better results. What is interesting here, even with the transformation forms, none of them are more durable than the Hero's base forms anyway. A well placed blast attack from an enemy is more than enough to at least bring down two life bars, which ultimately makes the Hero, one of the easiest characters to put down due to his weak durability.

Also, The Hero's base forms have average speed. While this is good, even when the Hero can dodge lightning and beam attacks, enemies who are much faster than the Hero are more than capable of speed blitzing him with no effort. With his transformations, this weakness gets thrown out of the window, though that's where the main problem for the Hero comes in.

All of the Hero's transformations are very specific to certain stages. For instance, the Charodon form can only be used in Water, though this sounds great, in a more likely outcome, this form is basically useless. Then there is the situation of other capabilities. You see, each form is versatile, but their attacks are basic and more about overpowering the opponent over strategic thinking. This makes it that the Hero is very straightforward with his attacks.

Finally, like the weakness from above, the Hero's transformation varies between stages. However, what is different here, is that once the Hero transforms into that form, he stays that way until either the level ends or the boss fight is over. This makes the Hero very limited to his choice of transformations.

However, despite all of this, The Hero is quite a badass combatant. He is powerful, brave and a determined conqueror.

Kid Chameleon

In the present times, there is a virtual reality game in a form of an arcade machine titled "Wild Side" that wowed kids in a local town. Things went pretty solid. Unfortunately, overtime, since the arcade was brought in, there were reports of missing children in a very short time span.

The game was finally targeted as the main source of the problem. The game's boss known as Heady Metal, freed himself from the system's AI capabilities and became the most powerful being of the game's world. Thanks to his freedom, Heady Metal managed to kidnap kids who failed to complete the game and kept them for eternity.

However, despite the terrifying ordeal, there was one kid who rose to the challenge and attempted to rescue the kids from Heady Metal's grasp and put an end to his reign of chaos..... That Kid eventually succeeded, and the townsfolk thanked him for his achievement.... And, afterwards, the Kid later became known as "Kid Chameleon".

That is a simple yet detailed background of Kid Chameleon. Now, let's see what this badass boy is capable of.

Base Form

The Kid is, well, a Kid. Though it may seem like he is just your average joe, unfortunately, that is where you are wrong. This "Average Joe" is a perfect example of "More than meets the eye" (Thanks Transformers!!!!) The Kid is also able to latch onto ledges and climb up, Lara Croft style, though not even close to being as sexy XD!!!

Strength
The Kid breaking a Brick

In terms of strength, The Kid is a badass. While very simple with what he does, there are numerous feats to consider. Here is a list of Strength feats for the Kid.

  • Can break apart bricks using his head
  • Can kill Dragons with just a jump XD!!!
  • Can stomp ontop of rock monsters. This is also a really good feat because rocks in particular can weigh over 10 tons.
  • Can crush through Robotic Armor.... Yes, this is real XD!!!!
  • Using his Berserker Helmet, the Kid is able to smash through bricks and push back steel blocks.
  • Can stomp on Heady Metal's head with such force, it can force his eyes to pop out of their sockets after multiple jumps. This is possibly the coolest feat by the Kid in the Strength department because the amount of force generated to achieve this would be equal to that of a wrecking ball

Speed
The Kid as Skycutter traveling across the screen.

In terms of Speed, The Kid is without a doubt a very fast character. Though, as we get into greater detail later on, The Kid's multiple forms do help his Speed substantially. Here is a list of Speed feats for the Kid

The Kid Dodging lightning.
  • Can dodge and, get this, outpace Lightning from the sky
  • Can dodge laser attacks, which are Faster than Light
  • Outran and outpaced a Murder wall that is so fast, it is actually quick enough to cover an entire stage. This is also very impressive because the wall can somehow cover the entire landscape at once in a very wide area.
  • Can dodge traps and moving obstacles
  • Can dodge multiple attacks coming at him from all directions at once
  • Is actually much faster than a Dragon's flight speed, which is quick enough to reach the bottom in half a second.

Durability
Durability is interesting for the Kid. Though there is a certain Helmet that helps him here. In terms of base durability, here is a list of feats done by the Kid.

  • Can take elemental attacks that only take away a single health bar
  • Can survive environmental hazards that take only one health bar.... I am seeing something here XD!!!
  • Can survive weapon strikes that take just a single health bar away
  • Can withstand a Minotaur's charge attack
  • Using his abilities, depending on the Helmet, the Kid can withstand at least more strikes due to the protective shielding he is granted for a moment.

Helmets

The Helmets used by Kid Chameleon

Now, we go into what has to be, the coolest part about Kid Chameleon: Helmets. Each helmet gives the Kid a variety of capabilities, and they have multiple functions depending on the situation at hand.

It is worth mentioning that should the Kid pick up a helmet while damaged, picking one up actually fully heals him entirely. Thus, the Helmets are essentially "Health Pickups" also :D!!! They also increase the Kid's Health bar from 2 to 3, though there is one form that makes it 5 ;)

Here is the full list of Helmets worn by The Kid

Iron Knight: The Iron Knight is the most durable form. This Form allows the Kid to climb onto walls and also, this form is strong enough to crush through blocks after jumping ontop of them. While it's jumping capabilities are lower than other forms, it makes up for it with it's amazing durability. The Iron Knight also grants The Kid a substantial Health boost and it give him five health bars, increasing survivability by a long shot.

Iron Knight Climbing a wall

Red Stealth: Red Stealth is basically a Samurai Form. This form has a very sharp katana that is strong enough to cut through anything, even Robotic Armor. It also has multiple attacks for different situations such as a Air slash, a downward strike and of course, the standard sword strikes. Very impressive. Oh, and Red Stealth has the highest Jumping distance out of all the forms the Kid can use, badass :D!!!

Finally, Red Stealth can use it's downward strike to break blocks below him, making it very useful when the goal is just underneath a couple of blocks..... Easy times for Red Stealth :D!!!

Red Stealth's Downward strike.

Berserker: A Helmet that resembles the typical Mad Max bad guy, this Form allows the Kid to Ram into enemies and also break through blocks of bricks. The charge attack can also push back Steel Blocks with such force, they actually get off the screen in a second (as said before :D!!!)

The Berserker Charge

Maniaxe: One of the Kid's best forms in terms of Long Range combat, Maniaxe is a Jason Voorhees look a like that somehow is even more deadly in combat thanks to it's ability to throw hatchets at great distances with tremendous speed. Maniaxe can also throw hatchets while in mid air.

Maniaxe throwing a hatchet

Juggernaut: The only form that adds something extra to the appearance: A Tank. This badass form allows the Kid to become a Tank and it can shoot out skulls that deal massive damage. Oh, and the Skulls can even move across the ground and can even be shot while in mid air :D!!!! Which, believe it or not, Juggernaut can also jump!!!! BADASS!!!!!!!!!!

Juggernaut shooting out skulls

Micromax: By far the smallest form for the Kid, but also one of the best. Micromax is so tiny, it can bypass attacks much more efficiently than other forms entirely. However, the main deal here is that Micromax can latch onto ledges and climb up using small jumps. It can also jump between two walls simultaneously

From left to Right, Micromax jumping between two walls

EyeClops: A form that resembles Robocop, Eyeclops can reveal hidden blocks using it's ray gun. What's more, this "Gun" can be used to crush enemies after the hidden rock is revealed. This form is especially useful in stage that require blocks to progress further

Eyeclops Ray Gun in action. Before......

And after :D!!!!!

Skycutter: This form is by far, the fastest form that the Kid can use. Skycutter is also a very agile form, as it can use it's board to go upside down and reach the top....... Yeah, I wonder if it can go sideways and go vertical, that is just beyond logic XD!!!!

The upside down technique. Badass :D

Cyclone: The Kid's most powerful and most dangerous form, Cyclone is a legit badass. This form allows the Kid to spin around and fly. This ability is especially useful for reaching the finish line very quickly. Oh, and the Spin can be used as an offensive attack, as it can drill through enemies with devastating results. Cyclone's Spin attack can even damage enemies beside him.

The Cyclone Spin

Diamonds

Diamonds are the main source of power in Kid Chameleon. Each diamond is collected by the Kid after destroying Prize blocks in levels. While each diamond varies in color, their value doesn't change. Although, there are rare occurrences of the Kid finding ten diamonds at once, which also helps as well :D!!!

In total, the Kid can only carry 99 diamonds at most.

Diamond Abilities

The Kid using Death Snake

Now, with regards to Diamonds, The Kid can use them to unleash powerful abilities. The Kid himself can use Diamond abilities that make him a very powerful foe, though his other forms actually give him superb versatility. Most of these abilities are shared between different forms, though some notable abilities are Forms exclusive. Here is a list of Abilities fueled by Diamonds

Maniaxe with the Circle of Doom
Circle of Doom: This ability consumes 20 Diamonds in order to be used. This ability allows the Kid to create a circle around him that damages enemies that come in contact. It is used with The Base Form, The Iron Knight and Maniaxe Forms

Red Stealth using Death Snake
Death Snake: Death Snake is a Diamond Power that is extremely powerful. Even cooler, the Death Snake actually tracks down it's targets and never misses. It can also bypass barriers such as a wall of blocks and even steel blocks, making it intangible. This ability is shared with the base form, Red Stealth and Skycutter. The Death Snake consumes 50 diamonds

Extra Hit Point's Effect
Extra Hit Point: Extra Hit Point is an ability exclusive to the Iron Knight. It just adds an additional Health Bar. Pretty cool stuff :D!!! It consumes 50 Diamonds to be used

Samurai Haze: This powerful ability is literally a "Time Slow". Though it doesn't affect everything in the screen, what happens is that The Kid uses this ability to slow down his enemies, opening a window to finish them off. This ability is exclusive to the Red Stealth Form and it consumes 20 diamonds
Red Stealth's Samurai Haze

Invulnerability: The most powerful ability used by the Kid, this, well, makes him invulnerable for 8.5 seconds. This power is used only by the Berserker and Skycutter forms. This ability consumes 20 diamonds.

Berserker using Invulnerability

Wall of Death: This Diamond Power is without a doubt, one of the most powerful abilities used by the Kid. This ability consumes 50 Diamonds and unleashes a Wall of Death that covers the entire screen, killing all enemies in it's path. The ability lasts for 22 seconds, but it is extremely powerful. This Wall of Death can even bypass "Walls" of steel, blocks and even pass through tunnels from the side. A really overpowered ability indeed :D!!!! The Wall of Death is Exclusive to the Berserker Form.
Wall of Death used only by the Berserker

Extra Life: Exclusive to The Maniaxe form, this ability consumes 50 diamonds and, well, grants an extra life :D!!!
Extra Life's Effects from top to bottom

Five Way Shot: An extremely powerful ranged attack used exclusively by the Juggernaut form, the Five Way Shot project's five diamonds around the screen and damages any enemy they come in contact with. They can also bounce off the edge of the screen and attack the enemy from left to right :D!!! This ability consumes 5 Diamonds

Juggernaut's Five Way Shot

Mini Snake:  Virtually Identical to the Death Snake, Though this ability, oddly enough, is used exclusively by Micromax. However, the real advantage Micromax has is that this time, the ability costs only 20 Diamonds instead of 50. Half the Price, Same power :D!!!!

Swift Mini Snake: Another exclusive ability for Micromax, the same as the Mini Snake except the Swift Mini Snake is MUCH FASTER!!!!!!. Oh and this ability costs 50 Diamonds.

Micromax's Snake Abilities into one screen shot.

Fatal Beam: Used exclusively by Eyeclops, The Fatal Beam makes the Ray Gun turn into a deadly weapon of scary power. It damages enemies by emitting an energy blast that covers a wide area. Also bypasses Walls :D!!!. This ability consumes 2 Diamonds
The Fatal Beam

Slashing Rain: This Diamond Power allows the Kid to create Diamonds from the sky, which is a rain of Death to his enemies. It consumes 35 Diamonds and the ability lasts for 14 seconds. It is exclusive to the Cyclone Form. The Diamonds are also intangible, passing through terrain and walls entirely

Slashing Rain in action

Tracking Rain: Now, this ability is the same as Slashing Rain, except this time, the Diamonds now track down their target and never miss. These Diamonds are also able to travel at laser like speeds. Added that the projectiles are also intangible, there is no defense against them. The ability is exclusive to the Cyclone Form and consumes 50 Diamonds to be triggered and it lasts for 32 seconds.... That is half a minute of unstoppable barrages of Diamonds from the sky...... BADASS!!!!
Tracking Rain Before.....

and After :D!!!!

Skills

The Kid is not particularly a trained warrior. Though what makes him special is his adaptability. It is worth noting that the Kid is quite an acrobat, as said before, he can climb onto ledges and even jump at great heights and distances. The Kid is also a great marksman, since his forms involving Long Range combat can hit their mark with great precision.

The Kid can be seen as an athlete as well, since he runs fast and is very good with his reflexes. I mean, come on, if someone can be quick enough to dodge laser fire, that alone makes you very quick :D!!!

At last, the Kid is also very crafty. While not particularly the best at puzzle solving, the Kid is pretty good at outwitting his foes using his mind. This makes the Kid quite an unpredictable foe to come across.

Feats and Accomplishments for Kid Chameleon.

Kid Chameleon has a load of feats that make him a very powerful foe. Here is a list of accomplishments achieved by the badass boy

  • Has officially, and cleanly, defeated Heady Metal not once,  not twice, but four times :D!!!!! So much for being a powerful game boss Heady, you really cannot stop a Kid can't you? XD!!!!
  • Has taken down Lightning Storms just by jumping on them....... Oh yeah, that alone is just one of the coolest feats I ever had to research.
  • Defeated Dragons on a regular basis just by Jumping on them..... ok, the Kid really likes to Jump alot XD!!!
  • Using his most powerful abilities, the Kid can kill all enemies in one screen in a timespan of just a few seconds.
  • Can simply complete levels in under 3 minutes without clock pick ups
  • Outpaced the Murder Wall, making the Kid pretty much above lightning level at the very least
  • Rescued all the Kidnapped children after Heady Metal's defeat.
  • Is granted the title "Kid Chameleon". The Champion of the Game Realm
  • Is one of the coolest characters in gaming.

Weaknesses

While Kid Chameleon has achieved quite a fair bit of feats in his own game, unfortunately, he is far from unstoppable.

Firstly, the obvious fact is that the Kid can be harmed by everything that is thrown at him. While this actually takes away only one health bar, there is another problem. The Kid's base form only has two bars of health, should he be damaged twice, he is dead. While this can be nullified thanks to his Helmets having 3 bars of health, with the Iron Knight having 5 bars of health, the Kid is still susceptible to damage.

What's more, should the Kid actually fall into a bottomless pit, he will die instantly regardless of how much health he has left.

Finally, with regards to his Diamond Powers, the Kid has to use them sparingly. Unless he can find more Diamonds in a long drawn fight, should he use the wrong abilities at the wrong time, the Kid is literally screwed.

However, despite his faults, Kid Chameleon is one of the coolest characters around. Honestly, on a side note, Kid Chameleon is a fantastic game. Yes, it is hard and yes it is long, but looking at it in a different perspective, it actually tests your willpower, making you more determined than ever before to accomplish your mission.

Bottom line, Kid Chameleon is badass, cool, and above all, one of Sega's more underrated characters to date.

Summary

The Altered Beast/The Hero

Advantages
  • All of the Hero's transformations have better offensive capabilities than Kid Chameleon's forms in terms of firepower

  • Is more experienced because the Hero is a fallen Centurion/Warrior whereas Kid Chameleon is just a kid

  • Has more forms than Kid Chameleon

  • More pick ups for more benefits compared to Kid Chameleon

  • Charodon actually helps the Hero against Kid Chameleon thanks to his ability to swim in water, whereas the Kid cannot actually swim.

  • Altered Beast was a pre packaged game for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive :D!!!!

Disadvantages

  • Laughably outclassed in terms of the stats trinity

  • Not even close to being as crafty as Kid Chameleon

  • Since The Hero can only transform into a specific creature once, this limits his versatility compared to Kid Chameleon, who can pick up multiple helmets at once without having to be limited to one per level.

  • The Hero's pick ups only get triggered by virtue of killing his opponents or destroying the environment. Since this battle could simply take place in the middle of nowhere, it is likely these pick ups may not even factor into the fight at all

  • In order to become a beast, the hero has to first pick up three Spirit Balls or Talismans in order to trigger the transformation process. Unfortunately, this makes the process much slower compared to Kid Chameleon, who can simply pick up a helmet and the process is complete in just a few seconds

  • The Base Form of the Hero is far less powerful than Kid Chameleon's Base Form.

  • Slashing Rain, Tracking Rain and The Wall of Death will bypass The Hero's defenses entirely and will harm him, even when Draco's and Dragon's electrical Discharge comes into play.

  • Skycutter makes Kid Chameleon too fast for The Hero to take advantage of.

  • Red Stealth's Samurai Haze will make The Hero a turtle in terms of speed. Widening the Speed gap substantially

  • While Charodon helps the Hero with Water travel, Kid Chamelon's most powerful abilities can theoretically travel through water anyway since they are intangible and never missed their target

Kid Chameleon

Advantages
  • Literally Crushes the Hero in the Stats Trinity.

  • Is the more crafty combatant, making Kid Chameleon more unpredictable

  • Is more than capable of surviving all of The Hero's attacks very well since they simply take one health bar at a time

  • Since Kid Chameleon's helmets actually give him a health boost and fully heal him, this allows Kid Chameleon to be a very difficult opponent for the Hero to take down in a long drawn fight.

  • Iron Knight's Five Health Bar boost actually increases Kid Chameleon's Durability edge substantially, giving the Kid more time to analyze and even change forms entirely, if he can find another helmet

  • All of Kid Chameleon's Diamond abilities will prove to be too powerful for The Hero to take advantage of

  • Red Stealth's Samurai Haze will slow down The Hero, widening the Speed gap substantially

  • Skycutter alone is more than enough to simply avoid all of The Hero's attacks.

  • Despite Charodon giving The Hero an edge for Water Travel, the fact that Kid Chameleon's Slashing Rain, Tracking Rain, Death Snake and Wall of Death can bypass terrain and track down their target, theoretically makes it that the water mobility actually gets countered pretty easily over time.

  • His transformation process is instant, unlike The Hero, who has to first go through three stages in order to trigger his beast form

  • Is simply a much cooler character than The Hero

Disadvantages
  • Despite having better versatility, Kid Chameleon's Forms lack the firepower of The Hero's Transformations

  • Not quite as experienced as the Hero since Kid Chameleon is simply a Kid

  • Doesn't have any pick ups aside from his helmets and Diamonds that add more benefits

  • Less Forms

  • Charodon Form would hold back Kid Chameleon by swimming in water for a moment

  • Wasn't a pre packaged game for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive compared to Altered Beast.... :(

The Verdict

The Altered Beast/The Hero vs Kid Chameleon is one of the most exciting match ups I researched for my series. Unfortunately, as much as I wanted this to be a very close fight, this is literally a stomp.

However before I cut it, let's go through the stats.

Strength wise, this is not close. While The Altered Beast is certainly a powerhouse, Kid Chameleon annihilates him pretty easily. Even worse, The Kid's Strength level is far above The Hero's due to his feats involving breaking through Rock Monsters, Robots and Heady Metal. What's worse, The Kid's Jump alone has achieve more impressive Strength feats than what The Hero's Base form has achieved. But, for the Sake of maximum potential, we need to look at their Transformations

The Strength gap actually gets closer, though Kid Chameleon still wins it. The Chimera Form for the Hero does make him close to Kid Chameleon's level but unfortunately, The Berserker Form alone is still more powerful. Since it can push back Steel Blocks with just a charge attack, if that connects to The Hero, he is going to be sent flying. Regardless, the Hero's Chimera form is the only way to somehow match the Berserker Form's Strength. Which also begs the question, Can the Chimera somehow overpower a charging Berserker? Actually, no XD!!!!

Despite it's size, the Chimera is still able to be pushed back by smaller enemies before. And since Kid Chameleon's Berserker Form is smaller but packs a better punch, this ultimately makes Chimera pretty much a massive rag doll for Kid Chameleon to play with XD!!!!

So Strength is already a clear edge for Kid Chameleon, but what about Speed?

Well, this is a landslide for Kid Chameleon. Not only is he much faster than the Hero since he can dodge Faster than Light attacks, but also the Kid is simply much better in terms of reflexes. I do believe that the Hero's Attacks in his Transformation can make things interesting. But unfortunately, there is a work around. Kid Chameleon also edged out the Hero in terms of Mobility.

Skycutter alone is going to be impossible for the Hero to Tag, especially since it is quick enough to outpace lightning and laser attacks. These facts alone are more than enough to make Kid Chameleon virtually untouchable....... Oh, and Cyclone's spin attack allows him to fly into the air.... which begs the question, can the Hero match Cyclone's flight with his transformations that can fly? Actually, believe it or not, Yes.

Although this actually gets pretty interesting, unfortunately, there will be a major trump card that nullifies the Hero's Flight capabilities which I will get into later on

So Speed is a landslide win for Kid Chameleon. So what about Durability? Surely the Hero is durable enough to beat Kid Chameleon? Nope.

Unfortunately, this is another clear win for Kid Chameleon. Since the Kid can lose one health bar at a time from deadly attacks, the Hero on the other hand is a Glass Cannon. Meaning, while very powerful, he is not durable enough to take too many powerful attacks. Also, if a fireblast can somehow drain two life bars from the Hero, I have no doubt in my mind that Kid Chameleon's Diamond Powers will crush him..... Which also leads to the abilities.

While all of The Hero's Beast forms are great, and that the Hero has more forms to choose from....... This is where the fight ends. Unfortunately, Kid Chameleon wins here.

You see, while Kid Chameleon does have less forms, he actually has better versatility and more powers than the Hero's individual Beast forms entirely thanks to the Diamond Powers he is able to use in combat.

Slashing rain literally creates a rain of diamonds that damage it's enemies, but Tracking Rain improves the effects by having the diamonds not only damage the enemy, but also track down their target and never miss. Which also begs the question, should The Hero transform into Charodon, will it save him from Kid Chameleon's powers? No XD!!!!

The Tracking Rain can bypass terrain and it is an intangible attack. Since those facts are taken into account, the Tracking Rain will eventually damage Charodon over time, making the water advantage pretty much useless. And, should the Hero use his flying forms to try and attack Kid Chameleon's Cyclone form, guess what? Tracking Rain would simply pin down the Hero entirely. Infact, this makes the Hero a much easier target for Kid Chameleon to put down for good.

And what's more, Red Stealth's Samurai Haze literally slows down Kid Chameleon's enemies. So if this ability is applied to The Hero, he is going to be a turtle in comparison to Kid Chameleon, widening the speed gap even further.

And finally, Pick ups. While The Hero does have more pick ups, Kid Chameleon actually has better reliability. How so? Well, The Hero requires blocks of marble and enemies in order to get these pick ups and unfortunately, since this is a fight that could take place in the middle of the desert or an island with not pick ups, the Pick Up factor is practically nullified. But, let's give the Hero the pick ups for the sake of fairness. Is it enough to beat Kid Chameleon?

Well, No.

Sadly, despite everything the Altered Beast is capable of, he is simply outmatched in virtually every other category. What is worse, the only way for the Hero to reach his beast forms requires three Spirit Balls or Talismans in order to trigger it. Unfortunately, this is also an edge for Kid Chameleon because all he has to do is simply pick up a helmet and wala, the process is done.

So, thanks to his Stats, Diamond Power, Instant transformation, versatility and greater mobility, I believe Kid Chameleon has what it takes to "Tame" the Altered Beast.

The Winner Is Kid Chameleon
