Greetings and Welcome to another edition of my "Who Would Win" Series and it is going to be Booker Dewitt from Bioshock Infinite vs Maya from Borderlands.
Now, to be clear, I decided to trim down the info for Maya's side simply because she has a substantial amount of "Weapons and Gear" that would take nearly 20 blogs worth to go through. So, I decided to simply do a quick rundown of her equipment and of course, the Weapon manufacturers that she used over the course of Borderlands 2 and 3.
Booker Dewitt will have all of his feats from the Base Story mode. Reason being is because Booker is, well, the main character of the game and of course, DLC feats will be mentioned.
Finally, I will look into the Stats, Weapons, Gear, Shield capabilities, Abilities, Weaknesses and finally who I personally believe will win this fight.
So, without further ado, let's begin.
Booker Dewitt (Spoilers ahead)
Booker Dewitt is a Private Investigator from New York working for "Pinkerton" sent on a mission to "Retrieve the Girl and Wipe away the Debt". One time, he took a boat to a mysterious lighthouse, which also happens to be a ticket to the sky city "Columbia".
Columbia. I wish I lived there!!!! |
Turns out, Columbia was home to the Great Prophet know as "Zachary Comstock" A man of philosophical beliefs that he is above everyone except God. While in a relatively peaceful moment in Columbia, Booker eventually participated in a raffle draw, which resulted in him drawing "Number 77" and was tasked to throw a baseball towards a couple....... However, before doing so, he was revealed by the local police that he is the "False Shepherd" after a brand he has on his right hand with the letters "A.D."
After being branded as the False Shepherd, Booker was then targeted as a fugitive and the enemy of Columbia, which made his mission far more difficult than he anticipated. Thankfully, Booker Managed to overpower Columbia's wrath and eventually went to Monument Island, which is the place where a lady known as "Elizabeth" is situated
There she is!!! Now get her and Wipe away the Debt!! |
While observing Elizabeth, Booker discovered that she has power to, well..... do this
Opening a Tear to see through dimensions and timelines? What? |
Yeah ummmm, Elizabeth's power turned out to be more complicated than anything. Eventually, Booker met Elizabeth in person, and the two were immediately being chased by "Songbird", a giant automaton who kept Elizabeth inside Monument Island like "A Bird in a Cage".
After the escape, Booker and Elizabeth were again in the crossfire of Columbia's Forces, but also, the Rebellious Group known as "Vox" in an ongoing war.
One time, Booker and Elizabeth entered a separate timeline that actually had Booker as a "Hero to the People"by the Vox.... Unfortunately, the real Booker was branded as an "Imposter" and thus, this further complicated the situation (Yes, I need to say, the story in Bioshock Infinite is confusing).
After finally eliminating the Vox leader Daisy Fitzroy and Columbia's Prophet Comstock, both Elizabeth and Booker eventually opened a new dimension.... This time, they were in the same lighthouse that Booker arrived at earlier in the story....... Turns out, the whole universe was one in an infinite amount of possibilities and that Booker............... Is both himself and Comstock!!!!!!!
Not only that, but it is also revealed that Elizabeth is Booker's Daughter, and things get too complicated for Booker to take in...... Finally, he admitted to being both Comstock and himself, and since he vowed to kill Comstock by the crib, he was drowned by multiple Elizabeth's all at once. Erasing both Booker and Comstock from existence...
Murdered by multiple Elizabeth's.......... And they are emotionless |
That is a quick background for Booker Dewitt, now, let's see what he is capable of.
Physical Stats
Unfortunately, Booker Dewitt lacks notable stats that make him above Peak Human. However, despite this, here is a handful of Stat feats achieved by Booker
- Can decapitate his foes with his Skyhook, though the Skyhook's rotation system did most of the work, sometimes Booker can throw his opponents into the air at around 5-10 away from him after he executes them
- Using a certain Gear, Booker can knock back his foes using his Skyhook. Strength wise, this is impressive considering some of them wear body armor
- Can lift up metal doors long enough for both himself and Elizabeth to pass through.
- Speed Wise, Booker is a peak human. He can increase his speed using certain Gears to make him borderline superhuman.
- Durability Wise, Booker is able to take large amounts of punishment such as full blasts from Rocket Launchers and point blank shotgun blasts, all of which can puncture through Motorized Patriots, who are made out of extremely durable steel. And of course, Booker can tank multiple bullets and Vigor Attacks.
Weaponry
Booker Dewitt is armed with a great variety of weapons. However, he can only carry two weapons at a time. Still, the list of weapons he has used is impressive. Here is the full list of Weapons used by Booker
The Broadsider Pistol |
Broadsider Pistol: The Broadsider is a Pistol that is one of the most common weapons in the game. While basic, it is actually powerful enough to one shot a foe with a well placed headshot. And it's fire rate is impressive, as it can shoot over 10 bullets in a time span of only 3 seconds.
Rolston's Reciprocating Repeater "Triple R": The Triple R, or simply "The Machine Gun" is a powerful fully automatic assault Rifle. It has incredible fire rate speeds and it is powerful enough to penetrate through armor.
The Machine Gun |
China Broom Shotgun |
Huntsman Carbine: The Huntsman Carbine is by far, the most balanced and most powerful firearm in Bioshock Infinite excluding Explosive Types. This badass has a relatively big magazine size, great stopping power and exceptional range
Huntsman Carbine |
Paddywhacker |
Paddywhacker "Hand Cannon": With a name like that, you know it can "Whack" Stuff XD!!!.
Funny jokes aside, The Hand Cannon is basically a super sized version of the Broadsider Pistol, with it's firepower being nearly 10x greater. This Handgun can literally decapitate an enemy with a single shot. While powerful, it's clip size is relatively small. But, it is still a gun that is dangerous.
Bird's Eye Sniper Rifle: The Sniper Rifle is, well, a very powerful Sniper Rifle with long range and amazing stopping power at the cost of a very slow fire rate.
Bird's Eye Sniper Rifle |
Pig Flak Volley Gun: The Volley Gun is a rapid fire grenade launcher that is one of Booker's most powerful weapons. It is quite scary because it has a pretty good magazine size, fast fire rate, and powerful splash damage that literally decimates multiple foes
Pig Flak Volley Gun |
Peppermill Crank Gun: The Crank Gun is a portable Gatling Gun that holds 100 bullets. It has the fastest fire rate out of all the weapons and it's power is summed up with one word "BADASS!!!!''
Peppermill Crank Gun |
Barnstormer RPG: The RPG is a Rocket Launcher that fires, well, Rockets. Damage wise, it can decimate battalions of soldiers and destroy Motorized Patriots and Handymen with a few shots.
Oh, and it is one of the few weapons that can easily destroy flying craft.
Barnstormer RPG |
Vox Weapons
Heater: A modified version of the China Broom Shotgun, the Heater has an edge in that it can set enemies on fire. The main drawback however is that it has a single shot mechanic that makes it laughable in terms of Fire Rate
Heater |
Burstgun: The Burstgun is a three shot automatic rifle with decent stopping power. Unfortunately, it's recoil is quite large and it's accuracy can be problematic with multiple bursts. Still, it does get the job done
Burstgun |
Repeater: A Machine Gun that fires at a decent rate, but it is outclassed by the Tripe R in terms of Speed and magazine size. However, it does have an edge in that it has better accuracy and firepower to make up for the drawback
Repeater |
Hail Fire: A variant of the Volley Gun, the Hail Fire functions differently. While the Volley Gun's grenades explode on impact, The Hail Fire Grenades exploded when it misses, but has a time limit before it explodes. This also allows it to ricochet from walls to bounce back, giving it one more chance to damage the intended target.
Hail Fire |
Skyhook
The Skyhook is Booker's Main weapon for Melee Combat. However, combat capabilities aside, it is also used to ride on Skylines around Columbia. It has a magnetized mechanism that allows Booker to Jump and reach far greater lengths, so long as there is a skyline or a Skyhook to connect to. The coolest part about the Skyhook however is that it can execute foes with bloody results, and it can be used for a "Skyline Attack" which propels Booker from a Skyline/Skyhook and land on his foe, pushing them back, killing them or at least severely damaging them.
Woo!!!! A Roller Coaster!!! |
A Skyline attack |
Vigors
A Vigor Bottle for "Murder of Crows" |
Vigors, where the real fun begins. Vigors are powerful abilities that Booker acquires after consuming a Vigor Bottle. After a brief moment of.... well, this....
Ahhhhh!!!! My Hands!!!! |
Hey, they are back to normal!!! |
Yeah, the effects actually get scary. Funny stuff aside, Booker then uses Vigors for amazing Hax capabilities that make him pretty much a powerful "Magic User".
Here is a Full list of Vigors used by Booker.
Possession: Possession allows Booker to Possess, well, anything he desires, Fully upgraded, Possession can posses people to join his side before committing suicide when it's effect runs out. Booker also uses Possession on Vending Machines to give him cash. The Possession Ability summons an astral spirit towards the target. It can also be used to set up a trap that possesses anyone in close proximity
Possession's Spirit and the Possessed XD!!! |
Devil's Kiss: Devil's Kiss is a Fire Based Vigor and one of Booker's most powerful in terms of raw power. It can ignite enemies to a crisp and the fire is powerful enough to burn them to the bone in just two seconds. Upgraded, the Devil's Kiss can break into smaller projectiles, increasing it's area of effect and it's damage output. The Projectile is a Fireball. Oh, and it can also be used to set up traps, which explode should anyone get into proximity
Devil's Kiss Effect |
Murder of Crows: Murder of Crows is an extremely powerful Vigor that allows Booker to summon a Murder of Crows to stun and damage all of his enemies, opening to an execution. However, when fully upgraded, Murder of Crows can increase it's damage output and can be used on corpses of it's victims as traps to would be victims in close proximity.
Murder of Crows in Action |
Bucking Bronco: Bucking Bronco is a Vigor that allows Booker to use it's effects to levitate his enemies into the air, leaving them defensless. However, unlike your standard telekinetic powers, Bucking Bronco's effect really comes in when you shoot the victim, that forces them to drop to the ground at supersonic speeds, which also kills them. Fully upgrade Bucking Bronco's effect lasts Longer and it too can be layed as a trap that levitates it's would be victims in close proximity
Bucking Bronco's Effect |
Charge: A Melee Based Vigor, and one of the most powerful in terms of added effects, Charge allows Booker to charge at his opponents at Supersonic Speeds and inflict massive damage. Fully Upgraded, Booker briefly becomes invincible and also adds explosive damage. The Longer Booker charges this Vigor, the more damage he can inflict
Charge's Effect. Notice the Health Bar with the "Invincibility" Icon |
Shock Jockey: By far my favorite Vigor in the game, Shock Jockey allows Booker to manipulate Lightning. The Lightning is powerful enough to not only damage his foes, but also stun them and is able to power up Shock Jockey Machinery that opens doors or power up machinery that are literally impossible for other methods to power up.
Fully upgraded, the Shock Jockey can stun multiple foes, has a longer stun effect, and it can lay traps that stuns foes in close proximity
Shock Jockey in Action |
Undertow: Undertow allows Booker to manipulate Water. However, funny enough, this "Water" is quite unique in that it can grapple Booker's foes and pull them towards him for closer killshots. In terms of quick blasts, it can "Force Blast" a foe at great distances, sometimes this is useful for "Battlefield Removals".
Upgraded, Undertow's range is increased and it can pull multiple foes at once. Oh, and instead of a trap, the added effect for Undertow is that the enemy will now take more damage than normal once they are pulled towards Booker.... Pretty badass
Undertow's Charged Effect |
Bring forth the Prisoner!!!! |
Hasta La Vista, Baby (The Blast Effect of Undertow) |
Return to Sender: Return to Sender is the most powerful "Defensive" Vigor in Bioshock Infinite. While not exactly powerful in terms of quick blasts, the main purpose of Return to Sender is that it allows Booker to Block fire from his enemies and, using his orb, sends it back towards them.
Fully Upgraded, Return to Sender now can refill Booker's Ammunition and it can redirect damage back towards the enemy. It also increases the duration of the Shield and it uses less Salt overtime. It can also be used as a trap to detonate on impact and damage foes in close proximity
Return to Sender in Action |
The Orb is then projected towards the enemy, inflicting damage |
Health/Shield Bar
This image is Booker's Health (Red) and Shield (Yellow). When the Shield Bar is depleted, Booker loses his shield and will take Health Damage. If his health runs out, Booker dies. The End XD!!!!!!
The Shield however regenerates itself after a brief moment, and Booker's Shield is durable enough to take alot of punishment, making it an ideal aspect for his Durability
Salt
Salt is the main source of power for Booker's Vigors. He can replenish his salt by finding consumables and potions. Should Booker run out of Salt, he cannot use his Vigors unless he has at least a section of Salt.
Gear
Gears are essentially Booker's equipment that give him specific benefits. Here is a quick rundown of some of Booker's Gear capabilities
- Increased Ammo Capacity
- Elemental Effects when using the Skyhook for Melee Damage
- Movement Speed Increased after eating consumables
- Shield recharge Rate is increased
- Increased Damage when on a Skyline
- Melee Attacks can cause Knockback
- Finding Voxaphones give you Silver Eagles (Money)
- Summoning a Ghostly ally when killing an enemy with a Vigor
Feats for Booker Dewitt
Booker Dewitt has quite a list of feats that make him a legit badass. Here is a list of feats achieved by the Private Investigator.
- Has officially, and cleanly, killed Zachary Comstock...... who also happens to be, well, Booker Dewitt also XD!!!!
- Able to rescue Elizabeth from Songbird's Grasp and actually kept a promise to not kill Elizabeth in the end, should things get too desperate
- Spared/Assassinated Slate
- Eventually found Chen Lin in an alternate dimension
- Won multiple Carnival Games
- Bioshock Infinite is the best of the Bioshock Games (Personal Opinion :D)
- Voiced by Troy Baker
Weaknesses
The Scene of Booker's Death |
While Booker Dewitt has accomplished wonders, by no means he is "Wonder Man". Infact, Booker is no more powerful than just a peak human. If not for his equipment, his shield and his Vigors, Booker most certainly would not have lived long enough to survive until the finale of Bioshock Infinite.
Also, all of Booker's Weapons are interesting. Unfortunately, he can only carry two weapons at a time, limiting his versatility substantially.
As for Booker's Vigors, they run on Salt, and if Booker runs out of Salt, again, he cannot use Vigors unless he finds Salt Consumables to replenish the Salt Meter.
Finally, Booker has another flaw that does not actually matter in a 1v1 match up..... Elizabeth. Now, this is funny because you would think "How does she factor into this". Well, Elizabeth, when in combat with Booker, can find items that she can throw at Booker to replenish his health, salt and even find ammo.
So, you would think that Elizabeth is actually useful right? Unfortunately, this is outside help we are talking about. So really, while Elizabeth is great for Booker, in this match up, this is just Booker on his own.
However, despite his flaws, Booker Dewitt is quite a great character and a heroic individual.
Maya (Spoilers)
As an infant, Maya was identified as a Siren and given to the "Order of the Impending Storm", the ruling order of monks on her homeworld of Athenas.
Maya Trained her Siren powers since childhood. However, at one time, the Order revealed Maya as their "Savior and God". Displeased, Maya sought out adventure and wanted to visit Pandora to learn more about her Siren Linage
She eventually realized that the Order was using her as a threat to extort money and obedience from the people of Athenas. Although hesitant at first, Maya phaselocked and executed her handler. Afterwards, Maya decided to go to Pandora and achieve her goal for answers on her Siren background
Maya already knew of the Vault and the presence of a special substance known as "Eridium" before arriving on Pandora. After Hyperion CEO Handsome Jack learned of Maya through Hyperion surveillance footage of Athenas, it presumably didn't take much effort to get the Siren on the train.
Upon disembarking the train and standing on the train platform, Maya met Krieg, a tall psycho who has a crazy mind of his own. At first, Maya tried to kill Krieg, as Psychos are very well known for Malicious intents. However, turns out that Krieg ultimately helped Maya from "Rats", who almost killed her, thus, Krieg "Saved" her life. (What a lovely Psycho :D!!!)
Of course, Maya's involvement in the Borderlands story really kicks in after Handsome Jack destroyed the Train that she and other Vault Hunters were riding. After being saved by Claptrap, reaching Sanctuary and helping them defeat Jack and the Warrior, Maya returned to her homeworld of Athenas to protect her people.
Eventually, Maya found a new apprentice named Ava
Maya and Ava |
Despite her peace time, Athenas was invaded by Maliwan Forces, who are looking for an ancient artifact that will help the Calypso Twins, who are literally idiots, find multiple vaults to suck up the power of their Guardians to finally become "Gods" (By the way, The Calypso Twins are the worst villains in gaming history. I am dead serious)
After being saved by the Crimson Raiders and new Vault Hunters, Maya helps them out to try and defeat the Calypso Twins in a race against Time..... Unfortunately, her time was short lived, as she was killed by Troy Calypso.
Pain.... Suffering.... Death...... Dust...... |
So umm.... yeah, Maya is now officially Dead
That is a quick background for Maya. Now, let's see what this badass Siren is capable of.
Physical Stats
Maya's Stats are superhuman. Since she is a Siren, she is already above your typical peak human. that said, it is worth noting that Maya's Siren capabilities are far different from fellow Sirens such as Lilith and Amara. Of course, Maya has achieved alot of impressive feats that showcase her potential. Here is the list!!!
- Can break apart Armor worn by Bandits, Robots and Large Aliens and Creatures with just her Palm Strikes
- Can carry Rocket Launchers that are 3x-12x heavier than Anti Tank Rocket Launchers
- Able to kick back a Maliwan Soldier a couple feet backwards
- Could Scale to a feat that Lilith achieved, who can blast off a bandit's face by touching them. Maya has done similar feats as well, so theoretically, she can do the same.
- Speed Wise, Maya can react to Sheriff Nisha's Showdown Action Skill, which allows her to shoot all of her targets without aiming in nanosecond speeds. Since Maya actually defeated Nisha, she scales to, or even surpass Nisha.
- Can dodge multiple Lasers and bullets
- Durability Wise, Maya can survive Large Building level blasts and not get damaged
- Has tanked the Warrior's Fire Breath
- Survived multiple Elemental Attacks, some of which are able to melt through Armor such as Corrosive attacks.
Weapons/Manufacturers
The Brands of each Weapon Type |
For the sake of this blog, I will list the Weapon Manufacturers in Borderlands. This is interesting since these Manufacturers have different capabilities from each other that makes them all unique. Here is a list of Manufacturers.
Jakobs:
Jakobs' guns are singe shot weapons. While they are very lacking in
terms of ammo capacity, they make up for it with the term "One shot, One
kill". These guns are extremely powerful, and even deal massive
critical damage should they hit weak points of the enemy
Tediore: Tediore
guns are by far the most bizarre weapons in Borderlands. With a
balanced blend of fire rate and ammo capacity, their main function is to
be thrown as a projectile towards the enemy. The interesting part of
these weapons is that the more ammo that is inside the thrown weapon,
the more damage they deal to the enemy and the bigger the explosion
becomes. In a sense, the weapons are basically grenades.
Tediore Capabilities |
Torgue: Torgue
weapons replace their ammo with explosives instead. What's more, if a
shotgun is manufactured by Torgue, they fire explosive rounds instead of
the traditional shotgun shells or elemental bullets. Thus, while the
fire rate for Torgue weapons are slow, and the ammo capacity is quite
mediocre, they make up for it with incredible area of effect damage and
dealing massive amounts of damage to the enemy
Hyperion: Hyperion
weapons are by far the most balanced weapons of Borderlands. While not
particularly specialized in any certain field, they do have a trump card
that allows them to increase accuracy the longer the weapon is fired.
This is great for hip level shooting.
Vladof:
Vladof weapons have the fastest fire rate of all the weapons in
Borderlands. While not quite as powerful as the Jakobs and Torgue types,
they make up for it with more ammo capacity, superb fire rate and speed
and ruthless efficiency in close quarters combat.
Dahl:
Like Vladof, all of Dahl's weapons have a fast fire rate and are
especially fast in terms of projectile speed. However, the cool thing
about Dahl weapons is that once the wielder aims through the iron sight,
the weapon uses a burst fire mode instead.
Maliwan: Maliwan
weapons are elemental weapons exclusively. They are practically
specialized with the elemental type they are assigned with. Still,
Maliwan weapons are fairly balanced in terms of stats though they do
have the drawback on being too specialized to just one elemental type.
Bandit: Bandit
weapons have the largest ammo capacity of all the manufacturers in
Borderlands. They also have a decent stat range though their fire rate
is slower than most weaponry, they still back a punch in terms of
firepower.
Pistols: In Borderlands, Pistols come in different shapes and sizes, depending on the manufacturer. Here is a list of the Pistol Type weapon capabilities
- Some pistols are six shooters
- Some pistols are burst fired while aimed down the sight
- Some use elemental bullets,
- some are even rapid fire
- some can be thrown as a grenade.
- some Pistols increase their accuracy the longer they are fired
Shotguns: Like Pistols, shotguns are made with different capabilities depending on the manufacturer. Here are the capabilities of shotguns:
- Some shotguns can shoot explosive rounds, creating massive explosions in the process
- Some shotguns can even fire elemental shells
- Some shotguns can be thrown as a grenade
- Some shotguns are even fired at rapid succession.
Assault Rifles: Assault Rifles are basically what you expect, they fire rapid projectiles and even have large ammo capacities. Here are some of the capabilities for the Assault rifles.
- Some Rifles are Burst fired once aimed down the sight
- Some Rifles fire elemental bullets
- Some Rifles can even shoot out Rockets and explosive projectiles.
- Some Rifles can fire out lasers
Like all weapon types, Assault rifles can be attached with a bayonet for close quarters combat
Sub Machine Guns: Sub Machine Guns have the slowest bullet velocity of all the firearms in Borderlands. However, they make up for that flaw with an incredible fire rate, quick reload times and amazing elemental damage. Here are some of the SMG's capabilities:
- Some SMG's are burst fired once aimed down the sight
- Some SMG's are elemental based weapons. The bullets from Elemental SMG's are literally just balls of energy instead of physical bullets
- Some SMG's can be thrown as a grenade
- Some SMG's increase accuracy the longer they are fired.
Sub Machine Guns can also be attached with bayonets for close quarters combat
Sniper Rifles: Sniper Rifles are pretty simple, they are used for long ranged combat and even fire at great distances. What's more, a skilled marksman can even shoot sniper rifles without aiming down the sight and hit their target. Here are the capabilities of the Sniper Rifles
- Some Sniper Rifles can shoot devastating shots that can bypass shields and even kill the enemy instantly
- Some Sniper Rifles can even be fired in short bursts
- Some Sniper Rifles fire elemental bullets
- Some Sniper Rifles can be fired rapidly.
- Some Sniper Rifles increase accuracy the longer they are fired.
Like all weapon types, Sniper Rifles can be outfitted with bayonets for close quarters combat.
Rocket Launchers: All Rocket Launchers pack devastating power. They also have the biggest area of effect damage of all the weapons in Borderlands while lacking in terms of reload time. However, depending on the manufacturer, Rocket Launchers are surprisingly versatile. Here are some of their capabilities.
- Some Rocket Launchers can be thrown. This time, unlike the other weapon types, the thrown Rocket Launcher flies in a straight line.
- Some Rocket Launchers create huge walls of explosions
- Some Rocket Launchers emit elemental clouds of acid, electricity, slag and fire.
- Some Rocket Launcher can shoot projectiles that instantly reach their intended target. This puts their projectiles to FTL speeds if not slightly less
- Some Rocket Launchers are fired at rapid succession.
Grenades: Grenades are thrown at the enemy to do what you expect: Explode their target and the area around them.
However, they are also
surprisingly versatile in terms of capabilities thanks to Grenade Mods
that Vault Hunters such as Maya use. Here are the capabilities for
Grenades
- Some grenades split into multiple grenades for greater area of effect damage
- Some grenades reach their target location instantly. putting them at FTL speeds
- Some grenades perform transfusion. Transfusion is a process that lets the grenade attach itself to the enemy, and after exploding, leeches their health and transfers it to the user.
- Some Grenades bounce around til they hit their target.
- Some Grenades deal elemental explosions
- Some Grenades become a movable turret, dealing ranged damage.
- Some grenades pull their victims towards an explosion, dealing massive area of effect damage once it is unleashed
Phaselock
Phaselock in Action |
Phaselock is Maya's Signature Action Skill, and one of the most powerful abilities in the Borderlands world. Phaselock allows Maya to levitate her victim inside a ball of energy that is literally unbreakable until the duration runs out, or the victim is killed. Funny enough, while it looks basic at first, when using the right skills, Phaselock is able to achieve a few things:
- Can pull enemies towards the phaselocked victim. With specific Skills, it can also cause an explosion, damaging everyone around it.
- If Maya killed the victim, she quickly heals herself in the Process
- Can last for 12-18 seconds. Duration time is increased with more investment into "Suspension"
- If using Thoughtlock, the Phaselock can cause a group of enemies to fight each other.
- Can levitate enemies from cover, making them wide open to killshots.
- Using the "Ruin" Skill, Maya can not just Phaselock the victim, she can use Corrosive, Slag and Electricity to damage all foes in proximity
Of course, there are other methods that Phaselock can do, but this is the general rundown. If I had to be honest, Phaselock alone is just a super powerful action skill suited for any situation.
Shield
Maya can carry a Shield that tanks multiple levels of punishment. Funny enough, like the Weapon Manufacturers, Shields also have different Manufacturers for different capabilities. Here is a list of Shield Manufacturers and Capabilities
Anshin: Shields
manufactured by Anshin provide rapid recharge rate. Sometimes, they
provide elemental resistances and even increase health to the wearer
Pangolin: Shields
manufactured by Pangolin provide high shield capacity but the trade off
is a slower recharge rate and reduces Maya's total health.
Dahl: Whenever Maya is attacked, there is a chance that a shield booster will drop, which recharges a portion of Maya's shield.
Hyperion: When
fully charged, the shield amplifies Maya's attack power while
partially draining the shield in the process. In particular, "The Bee", a
legendary shield that provides the attack power boost without partially
draining the shield is an extraordinarily powerful item to have.
Maliwan: Whenever Maya is attacked by a melee weapon, the attacker is struck by
elemental damage. This can be an Elemental Spike or an Elemental Nova,
which created a large area of effect blast around Maya should her
shield be depleted. Also, Maliwan shields provide elemental resistances
also.
Bandit: Should Maya's shield be depleted, Maya's melee attacks increase dramatically until it recharges again
Tediore: Lower capacity shields with very fast recharge rates and shorter recharge delays.
Torgue: Similar effects of Maliwan shields except instead of elemental damage, Torgue shields emit explosives instead
Vladof: Vladof shields allow Maya to have a chance to absorb bullets fired at her, adding to her ammunition stock.
Skills
Of course, Maya is a role playing character, and the three main skill trees for her are: Motion, Harmony and Cataclysm. It is very difficult to pinpoint her true path of skills because Maya is a fully customizable character. Luckily, I decided to do a quick rundown of certain skills worth mentioning.
- After killing an enemy, Maya has quicker shield recharge, faster health regeneration and reload times are halved for a moment
- With the "Scorn" ability, Maya's Melee attack now unleashes a large ball of slag that damages enemies in a wide radius, and has a chance to coat them in slag, which increases the damage intake, making them far easier to kill with other elemental types
- Can increase Phaselock's Duration Time
- Can move quickly when Maya's shield is depleted
- Maya has a faster Fire rate and higher Gun Damage when the skill "Wreck" is invested
- After killing an enemy, without Phaselocking them that is, Maya can replenish a portion of her health using "Life Tap" This ability stacks up 5 times though with relics, it can reach to level 11, which has a 13.2% increased healing rate!!!
Relics
Relics are powerful artifacts that give Maya many benefits. Here is a quick rundown of some benefits that certain Relics give.
- Increased Gun Damage
- Increased Shield Capacity, Recharge Rate and Recharge Delay
- Movement Speed Increased
- Fire Rate Increased
- Increased Health
- Better Resistances
- Experience Gained is Increased
- Rare Loot Chance increased
- Weapon Types have greater, or weaker, capabilities
Class Mods
Class Mods provide skill benefits for Maya. Here is a handful of examples of Class Mod effects
- Title Changing Like "Nurse"
- Increased Skill capabilities
- Health, Shield, Speed and Damage Increased
Fight for Your Life
Should Maya lose all her health, she will eventually be in a "Fight for your Life" State. This state gives Maya one more chance to kill her enemies. Should she succeed in doing so, she gains a "Second Wind", which instantly revives Maya and provides a portion of her total health in the process.
Badass Rank
Another asset to Maya's stats is her Badass Rank. The Badass Rank provides passive stats that increase Maya's overall effectiveness in combat such as Increased health, Gun Damage, Fire Rate etc.
Feats and Accomplishments
POWER!!! GET THE POWER!!!!! |
Being one of the playable characters of Borderlands 2 and for playing a part in Borderlands 3, Maya has quite a resume that makes her both sexy and badass :D!!! Here is a list of feats achieved by the Siren
- Has officially, and cleanly, killed Handsome Jack
- Killed the Warrior
- Rescued Lilith
- Rescued Roland, who was kidnapped by Hyperion Robots
- Shot a maniac in the face because he asked her to
- Killed Handsome Jack's Girlfriend Nisha
- Helped the Crimson Raiders, and Angel, assassinate, well, Angel. Oh yeah, Angel wanted to die, it's just that Handsome Jack tried to save her XD!!!!!! (Angel is Jack's Daughter)
- Helped The Crimson Raider's defeat at least one Vault Guardian
- Voiced by Martha Harms
- Has one of the coolest abilities in fiction: The Phaselock :D!!!!
Weaknesses
Death..... Wait a minute, this is the same image XD!!! |
Maya may be a very powerful foe, but she is, well, Dead in the Story as of now. Funny enough, while Maya has become one of Borderlands' more popular characters, her actual time in the story as an NPC is quite short actually.
To put it simply, I actually estimated the amount of Time Maya had in the story, she only has just 40 minutes worth of time before her death, this is also including Cutscenes from both Borderlands 2 and 3...... That is insanely short. However, this is with her being an NPC. As a playable character, Maya is actually like 16-100000000000000 hours worth (What a funny comeback XD!!!)
Also, despite being a Siren, Maya is not quite as powerful as Lilith. Although she did state that, using an Eridium Shard, she could destroy a whole planet, Maya has never shown any feat that comes close to that level of power. Even the Calypso Twins never achieved Planetary Power. They did destroy a Moon after Troy absorbed Maya's power, but Maya certainly does not scale to that level of power.
Finally, Maya's abilities for the most part can only be triggered after she kills an enemy. While she does not quite have as much of a problem like Gaige, Maya's ability effects still need a mention since some of them actually require certain factors to trigger.
Of course, while Phaselock is absolutely badass and powerful, it runs on a cooldown limit. After Maya uses it, she must wait for it to finish in order to use it again. Funny enough, Maya can counteract this flaw by investing into skill points that reduce the cooldown period.......
Also, while Maya's shield is powerful, if she gets critically hit, the shield will deplete quickly. Electrical Attacks will certainly drain the shield at a faster rate because in Borderlands, Electrical strikes are super effective against Shields. Then again, Maya could have a Shield that has "Electrical Resistances" which can reduce the effects anyway XD!!!!
Personal Thoughts on Maya's Weaknesses
Let me be clear, Maya's Weaknesses are without a doubt, the funniest I ever analyzed for my series so far, mainly because she counters them in so many strange ways, I find it hilarious to even mention consistent weaknesses aside from her Death XD!!!!!!
Despite her Flaws, Maya is one of Borderlands most powerful, and sexy characters :D!!!!
Summary
Booker Dewitt
Advantages
- Has more versatile Hax capabilities
- If Skyline's are around, Booker will have both a substantial Mobility Edge and an opportunity to jump on Maya, dealing significant damage to her
- Murder of Crows will certainly Stun Maya, giving Booker more time for options
- Possession is something Maya has ZERO experience with
- Charge's Invincibility will stop all of Maya's attacks
- Undertow can literally nullify Maya's Ranged advantage, if it is fully upgraded.
- Vigor Traps can catch Maya off guard
- Shock Jockey can deplete Maya's Shield quickly since it is vulnerable to Electrical Attacks
Disadvantages
- Outright crushed in the Stats Trinity
- Far less Skilled
- Less Experienced
- While Booker's Vigors are powerful, very few of them match Phaselock's capabilities
- Has never withstood Corrosive Attacks before, which Maya can use if she uses the "Ruin" Skill with her Phaselock. This melts Booker from the inside, killing him immediately
- All of Booker's Weapons lack the firepower to contend with Maya's weapons
- While Booker has Bucking Bronco, Maya's Phaselock is instant, meaning it is more likely to hit Booker first before Bucking Bronco hits Maya
- While Booker can use two weapons at a time, Maya can bring over 12 and switch between them at any time she wanted
- Borderlands 2>>>>>>>>>>>> Bioshock Infinite
- Died to cute faces of Elizabeth, Elizabeth and.... surprise, Elizabeth XD!!!
Maya
Advantages
- Superior Stats
- More Skilled
- More Experienced
- Phaselock is much more powerful than nearly all of Booker's Vigor's
- More weapons to use at a time compared to Booker, who can only carry two
- Elemental Attacks with severely damage Booker. And since Maya's abilities usually involve Elemental Effects, she is more likely having this factor coming into play anyway
- Corrosive attacks will instantly win Maya the fight
- Maya's Sniper Rifles are Far better in terms of both Accuracy, Range, Firepower and Fire Rate. Some of them are Fully Automatic.
- Maya's Shield is certainly "Very Difficult" for Booker to bypass, if he does not use Shock Jockey
- Borderlands 2 is the single best First Person Shooter ever made!!!!!
- Has a nice, soothing and beautiful voice <3!
Disadvantages
- While Maya's Phaselock is super powerful, Booker's Vigors are more versatile
- If Skyline's are around, Booker has a massive mobility edge and can jump on Maya, delivering damage in the process
- Maya has literally no experience in dealing with "Possession"
- Booker's Charge allows him to become briefly invincible, this will ultimately put Maya in an uphill battle.
- Despite Maya's Range advantage being superior, Booker's Undertow will nullify it since it will pull Maya towards Booker, making the Range advantage meaningless.
- Booker's Vigor Traps pose a problem for Maya, since she will be caught off guard if the fight comes down to a "Cat and Mouse Chase"
- Shock Jockey will stun Maya and will quickly deplete her shield, since it is weak to Electrical Attacks. Unless of course it has Electrical Resistances XD!!!!
The Verdict
Booker Dewitt vs Maya is an interesting match up to say the least, though it is actually more or less one sided in favor of ??????
Let's break it down first.
Stats wise, this is actually Maya's Edge. While Booker is Good, Maya is a Siren and, well, Siren's are no joke. They are powerful enough to decimate armies, can destroy Buildings, Vehicles and Robots easily with just their physical power, and are outright scary overall.
Speed Wise, Maya's reactionary speed is far better than Booker. Turns out, since she fought The Sheriff Nisha, and has dodged lasers, bullets and elemental attacks regularly, already seals the deal for Maya in the Speed department.
Durability is actually Maya's Edge again. While Booker has a Shield, unfortunately, it is far less powerful than Maya's own Shield. Depending on the manufacturers, The Shield can create novas after being depleted, can absorb bullets, Resist Elemental type attacks and other cool stuff. Really, Booker's Real shot here is of course, one of the more decisive advantages he has: VIGORS
Booker is actually amazing here because he has a wide range of Vigors that give him superior Versatility over Maya's Phaselock. Funny enough, Booker's Vigors do not actually run on a cooldown once they are triggered, they can be used as many times as he wanted, so long as he has enough Salt Left.
Literally speaking, Booker's Vigors are his strongest asset in this fight........ Will it be enough to beat Maya? My Answer.....
Nope
After all that talk about Booker's Vigors, I bet you thought I was going to say he will win this..... Nahhh. Booker may be more versatile with Vigors, but that is literally it for him. Maya on the other hand has far greater advantages that actually surpass Booker. Here is a quick Rundown list of the true advantages for each side.
Booker Dewitt
- Versatile Abilities
Maya
- Better Stats
- More Weapons
- More Experienced
- Elemental Attacks are more powerful.
- Despite Shock Jockey's effects, it has to bypass the shield, but it has never shown any feat that showcases its power to drain a shield that can literally tank huge explosions point blank.
- Greater Range
- Phaselock is literally a showstopping finisher
So really, this fight ultimately comes down to Booker being in a tall order. Believe it or not, even if the Skylines are around, Maya has actually took down buzzards before, which are flying craft. And even Outrunner vehicles, which have boost capabilities that increase their speed. So really, while the Skyline's will help Booker for a moment, Maya is more than capable of tagging him anyway.
But you might be thinking "What about Booker's Possession?". Well, technically speaking, the Possession doesn't really work on a foe who is already more powerful than you. What is very interesting however is, despite Maya having zero experience with possession, this ability has never bypassed shields, nor it has possessed anything that is as powerful as a Siren. Even if Maya got Possessed by the effects, she actually has the mentality to break out of it, nullifying it's effects entirely. Even Handymen are able to stop Possession's effects, and Maya is Far more Durable and more Powerful than a Handyman. So really, this ultimately comes down to both Power Levels and the fact that Maya's Shield can block it entirely.
So, at last, Weapons. Booker can wield two at a time.... Maya can bring 12+ weapons and grenades......... That's already a wrap XD!!!!
And finally, Phaselock is literally a one two punch for Maya. The very basic Phaselock is more than enough to give Maya a substantial edge over Booker, and it allows her to kill him very quickly because it puts Booker in a bubble that literally cannot be broken unless it's duration runs out, or if Booker is killed, which the Latter is far more likely to happen anyway due to Maya's overwhelming power output.
So, thanks to her Stats, Power, Phaselock, Weapons and her Personality, I believe that Maya will win this fight
The Winner is Maya!!! |
